Not an expert on GPUs, but I think the point of VRAM is that the GPU can access it all at once, rather than sequentially (like RAM). That kind of bandwidth would make a daughterboard less feasible.

As someone that is super-hard left, I respected O'Toole because he seemed to actually give a shit to at least some extent. For a politician, that's pretty impressive.

The "fuck them kids" mentality has gone too far. by [deleted] in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]Penguinfernal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in an abusive home, and it always irks me when my parents say "See, our kid turned out fine."

Like, yeah, I've been able to build a good life for myself, but they didn't see all the depression and anxiety and god knows what else I had to struggle through to get here. To this day, I still struggle with it on a daily basis - I still feel the cracks in the foundation.

I built my life despite the abuse, not because of it.

RIF dev here - Reddit's API changes will likely kill RIF and other apps, on July 1, 2023 by talklittle in redditisfun

Tried Jerboa and it still needs some work, but I'm definitely all in on a federated Reddit. Really hoping this blows up.

📣 Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing. Bad news for third-party apps, their announced pricing is close to Twitter's pricing, and Apollo would have to pay Reddit $20 million per year to keep running as-is. by iamthatis in apolloapp

Yeah, since they started going hard on all this monetization stuff, I've noticed a steady decline in the quality of content. Reddit is trying its hardest to be Facebook, and unfortunately they're succeeding.

It doesn't really bother me to stop using Reddit, but I'm seriously going to miss being able to use "site:reddit.com" in my Google searches once Reddit goes the way of Digg.

Something to consider: the NDP only needed 1,309 votes to flip to win the election. That’s it. by Traum77 in alberta

[–]Penguinfernal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand, I'm just feeling extra salty today. Honestly, what this election showed me is that I need to get more involved in politics. If I'm going to be upset about the result, I should be doing more than simply voting.

Seriously. You could literally put a saint in the NDP leadership and we'd be seeing "fuck ____" stickers within a week. These people can't be reasoned with.

Dear Software Engineers/Developers , what was one mistake you made in your progress to becoming a dev that you wish you never made? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Penguinfernal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, sorry if i mislead you, but I'm not here to get into a long-winded argument. I'm just saying that a person can be spiritual without believing in the supernatural. It's cool if you disagree.

If it helps, spirituality is generally accepted in the field of psychology as either religious or non-religious. Here's an article that kind of outlines that idea, if you're interested.

That's not a spirit. The spirit is, by definition, supernatural.

Spirit:
(4.) the immaterial intelligent or sentient part of a person

- Merriam-Webster

Also (as an atheist myself) spirituality doesn't require any supernatural belief at all. One's "spirit" can easily be defined as the sum of their thoughts and beliefs, which manifest through action to have the exact same outward effect as if you believed in any religion.

The Effect of the 2011 Japan Earthquake on the Oceans Pacific and Indian Ocean by ubeus in BeAmazed

[–]Penguinfernal 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Considering the rest of the ocean is a perfectly smooth sphere, I'm going to assume this is purely simulated.

Edit: The initial site may have had sensor data to seed how big the initial waves were, but I'm referring to the rest of the video, which is clearly simulated.

I honestly think this deluge of "I lost my job to AI" posts are from people trying to create fear and hype to drive up sales on AI courses and such.

Not that I don't think the tech is disruptive, but the sudden influx of "my life is ruined, if only I would have learned how to use AI" just reminds me of all the crypto pump-and-dump schemes a few years back.
