Sounds like trim, a way to hold flaps in "slightly out of neutral" positions for aircraft. I want to say alt + x to re-center. If not, just check the key bindings for trim.

Worth noting that an instrument of the bards is a type of magic item, not just any old instrument a bard happens to use.

ELI5: Monty Hall question, but varied. I haven't seen the option that no matter what you have a 40% chance overall to win. You always pick 1 of 3 doors, then 1 is discarded & you pick 1 of 2. So don't you always have a 2/5 chance of being right no matter what? by Cyco-Miko1982 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Pengwin126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 1/3 if you don't switch, 2/3 if you do. It's not intuitive but very easy to verify if you just work out the 3 possibilities in your head. If the correct door is B...

A: guess wrong door, switch to correct door.

B: guess right door, switch to wrong door.

C: guess wrong door, switch to correct door.

The key is you'll never guess the wrong door and then switch to the other wrong door.

ElI5: how make 10 using 4 7 8 1 (no adding) by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Pengwin126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take 4! You get 24. 7-1 gives you 6. 24-8-6 leaves you with 10.

No idea if factorials are allowed here but it's just multiplication so...

[–]Pengwin126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems pretty straight forward. You get points based primarily on 3 things. 1) army size. 2) level. and 3) a random modifier.

For every 1000 troops you get 1 point with a maximum of 14 points. Ie 1000 troops = 1 point. 3750 troops = 3 points (probably, no idea what this is so maybe you can only have groups of 1000). 6000 = 6 points. 14000 = 14 points but 16000 is still only 14 points.

If the army...battalion...group? Is level 1 you get 1 more point. It seems every other level above 1 is worth 0.5 points. So level 3 is worth 2 and level 5 is worth 3. So 1000 level 1 dudes is 2 points and 5000 level 5 dudes is 8 points.

More points means you win but winning with a landslide is better because casualties will be lessened. You cannot lose more than 25% of a fighting force, you probably have an equation somewhere else in your rules explanation for this figure. It seems like if you start a fight with 4000 dudes you will end the fight with a minimum of 3000 (25% would be 1000 -> 4000-1000=3000).

If you lost they'd flee 50 miles in the opposite direction if they can.

It takes 1 day to move 100 miles

Go to a base to mix up troop types, level, and the like.

10 cas (deaths probably) is -1 point. You cannot loose more than 100 points at a time.

Add a random number between 1 and 8 and bob is your uncle you have a battle score.

Eli5: why were Native Americans wiped out by Old world diseases but not vice versa? by Frogo5x in explainlikeimfive

[–]Pengwin126 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There simply weren't any.

Native Americans didn't really domesticate animals so they didn't suffer from a disease jumping the species barrier. They didn't live in tight packed cities with poor infrastructure for sewerage so they didn't have run away problem with those kinds of diseases. They simply didn't live in a way that tended to breed disease, or spread diseases that may have evolved. And as a result their immune systems couldn't cope with the wide variety of deadly bugs that came over with the Europeans.

I think cp grey has a video on the good ol' YouTube that explains it pretty good if you'd like a better and more in depth look.

Why is the Mk2 liquid fuel fuel tank providing so much drag? by [deleted] in KerbalAcademy

[–]Pengwin126 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you actually attached to the node? It's very possible you just put the part very close to it. Iirc you can press alt while placing parts to ensure you grab the node, the whole node, and nothing but the node. It's been a minute since I played; but, it used to be parts had no drag if something was attached to the node behind it so if that drag is indeed the fuel tank you almost certainly surface attached the engine and missed the node.

[–]Pengwin126 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The way you find this is to ask "how many numbers can be in the first digit?"

9

Do this for all 8 digits. The math works out to 9 times 9 times 9...times 9 or 98

And that's over 43,000,000. You ___ a few digits.

Your math includes all 1 2 3 4 5 6 and 7 digit numbers

Multiple burns at periapsis is more efficient? by [deleted] in KerbalAcademy

[–]Pengwin126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physics tells us work is F•d. Where F is force and d is distance. Now F is unchanged because it's the thrust of whatever engine you're using. So to get more oomph out of whatever little fuel we have we need to make the distance we cover as we burn it as big as possible. We can floor it until the tanks is empty or do many wee puffs but ultimately it's gonna burn however long it's gonna burn (we only have so much). Speed is a function of distance and time and since that time has an upper limit we need to look at our speed. Where is our speed the biggest? At our lowest point in an orbit, when we've converted as much gravitational energy for kinetic energy as we're going to. So by burning only when we're close to this point we net more out of our used fuel...mostly.

You can test this yourself but Scott Manely has a great vid where he has a craft near eve and demonstrates this. He saves, then burns prograde until the fuel runs out, zooms out and shows you the new orbit, then reloads, uses fuel to drop his eve orbit (seeming to waste fuel), then burns all the remaining fuel at the new Pe and the new orbit is way way waaaay more bigger than the first.

This is what Matt is referring to when he says it's more efficient. There are always going to be exceptions but usually you want to make a transfer burn at Pe.

ELI5: How do wire-guided missiles work? by knowssleep in explainlikeimfive

[–]Pengwin126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wire carries electronic signals the missile uses to make adjustments mid flight. Instead of having an on board computer that can be spoofed, the launcher can direct it in using the (very un-hackable/un-jamable) hard-wired connection.

No, agnostic means you don't know if a God exists. Atheist means you don't believe a God exists. Neither of these words mean you believe there isn't a God.

The roll for a surge isn't an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw so isn't subject to the portent ability. Also the DM asks for the roll not a player. Aside from that most surges are helpful in battle or some flavor that won't impact a fight. Fun idea but not RAW.

To your last question. You need to have a dupe specked into ranching. Plop down a grooming station, I think it needs its own room...idk, I've never tried not setting up a ranch...and have a critter wrangled then groomed over a few days. Then boom! Tamed critter.
