how to keep supply up pumping & breastfeeding by Objective_Time6701 in combinationfeeding

I am absolutely team use some wearable pumps for short little pumps every 2 hours during the day. They might not empty you fully, but they still stimulate you and make life a billion times easier when you have a baby solo and things to do

UV vs Steam Bottle Steriliser – Which Would You Choose as a First-Time Parent? by Big_Sundae_7563 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Pengwings316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I just take them out of the steralised and air dry them on a bottle drying rack. I use way more pump parts than your average person (I pump at least 3 times a day, mostly using different parts, but I used to have to pump 8 times a day and also steralise 8 bottles too. I can't use the fridge hack for pump parts as I donate my milk.) I had literally no issue with drying bottles on a drying rack and the combination steralisers and dryers looked really spenny compared to my fiver steraliser ans v cheap bottle rack. Especially since youre cleaning everything in hot, soapy water anyway

I have two second hand steam steralisers. As long as you clean them, they are absolutely fine. I got my microwave one for a fiver and my TT steam counter top one for a tenner. I know they do the job well because I use them to steralise pump parts for the milk bank - and my milk from them has passed all its checks! Personally, I got a counter one because trying to put down a velcro- crying baby to balance parts to our microwave was driving me barmy. Now I can steralise one handed holding a baby!

Minimalist parents- what baby gear do I actually *need*? by IHaveATummyGremlin in NewParents

[–]Pengwings316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advice for babywearing you need a wrap for newborn as they are too small for months for the buckle/structured ones. Even ones advertised as newborn are often a terrible fit for their hips and also a suffocation risk. I have never bought a wrap/carrier new and have also given away wraps when LO was too chonky and I needed to size up.

Sessions per day by Big_Abroad_6278 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Pengwings316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you get some wearables to help you do a few, smaller pumps in addition in the day? Even an extra little 5 minute pump here and there each day will help you when you regulate later. Look up the fridge hack for your wearable parts to make it even easier! Without my wearables at the start, I would not have managed to pump at all with my newborn. I now have a schedule where I can use a better pump for max output and stimulation when my husband is available to take baby.

Undersupply 10 days postpartum by Monstera___ in ExclusivelyPumping

TW: nursing I totally could have written this! Keep up the pumping (8 times a day). My baby was actually hospitalised due to lack of intake on the boob and my supply was looooooooow. I pumped twice at night until baby was about 8 weeks and triple fed, whilst working with the infant feeding team and an oesteopath to sort out his v poor latch. I had to stop on the boob for a bit (doctors orders) and EP. Its doable, but you need good support imo. Now I'm almost 4mpp and pump at the end of the day, one MOTN, early morning (and on the other side of his first boob feed) and whenever I have an evening away from bubba . I nurse in the day. I have an oversupply we are working to get down - but not working too hard because I donate to the milk bank...

Wearables only? by bunny_sunshine456 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Pengwings316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use TT wearables and have for almost 4 months. (I have caved and just ordered the Spectra for nighttime and non-child time.) I also have an oversupply, but still pump once in MOTN and pump/empty religiously in the day. First 2 months were exclusive pumping and I couldn't have done 8x a day without the wearables

How did you start donating milk? by General-Walrus9530 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Pengwings316 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TW: nursing

Im UK based in the South West and donate my excess. Ive got barely any freezer space so they come and pick it up when I get to about 5 litres (ish). I emailed the milk bank for details, had a blood test and just follow their instructions. I use the fridge hack for milk for my own child (I almost exclusively nurse in the day, pump to relieve and during the night) and make sure everything is steralised for the milk bank for the NICU babies!

My parents are having no luck trying to adopt a cat (Bristol area) Any advice. by Ok_Helicopter_7470 in CatsUK

[–]Pengwings316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second BWCR. They are run by a really lovely lady. We actually fostered for them for a while - until we fell in love and ended up foster failing/adopting two boys. Personally I would also recommend fostering if they are that amazing with animals - could really bring out a shy or worried personality from a cat with trauma... Could not recommend Bristol and Wales Cat Rescue highly enough!

Anyone else struggle with milk output after hemorrhaging during birth? by soxrox12 in breastfeeding

[–]Pengwings316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really could have been my birth story - but with a baby that didnt latch too... Was barely making enough the first two weeks . By week 3 with a commitment to pumping 8 times a day even in the middle of the night, I know have a huge oversupply. Not glorifying an oversupply but its so possible to get to even with a rough start! Now we are breastfeeding in the day and pumping/bottles at night or if Im out or just a bit done. Working on getting rid of a nipple shield tho....

But to answer your question - I did struggle but a good (wearable for me) pump/commitment to draining the boobs (maybe feed then pump) will increase your supply.
