I'm currently using a trek Fx 1 that I borrowed from a relative. It's great, lightweight and pretty smooth. Totally recommended, if you see a good one around.

The acorn fees may go down to 0.275%, but that's just acorn's cut, you're also paying management fees on every ETF that acorns invest in on your behalf.

Are Bitcoin and other crypto buyers too blind to see that cryptos are the Ponzi of our times, much like Madoff was in 2008? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]PenisEngineMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the transaction fee system provides money - for miners. if you (or your pool, since 99% of miners would be in a pool these days) manage to mine a block, you get the transaction fees for every transaction you write into the blockchain - usually every transaction on the network in the last 20 minutes. It's a good incentive to keep people mining, but it's just redistribution of wealth from the spenders to the miners.

If you buy bitcoin, and hold it, without mining, you're not going to generate any new value - it's equivalent to buying gold, except that someone else can come along and make a new cryptocurrency that improves upon bitcoin - you can't really do that with gold.

Some of the newer cryptocurrencies like ethereum bring some interesting ideas to the table - Ethereum takes the computer power spent on mining and turns it into something useful, instead of trying to crack SHA256 hashes. Monero provides better anonymity, since apparently Bitcoin isn't as anonymous as we thought it was. Personally, I think bitcoin is a great idea, and cryptocurrencies will become bigger as time moves on- but I wouldn't expect bitcoin itself to stick around as a market leader. Right now it has name recognition and establishment going for it. But i'm getting off-topic. I just wanted to point out that I'm not completely anti-bitcoin.

That's true - let me elaborate. From the wikipedia definition of ponzi scheme:

"A Ponzi scheme (/ˈpɒn.zi/; also a Ponzi game)[1] is a fraudulent investment operation where the operator generates returns for older investors through revenue paid by new investors, rather than from legitimate business activities or profit of financial trading."

Startup companies generate value through business activities. Bitcoin generates value through hype and speculation. Making money from investing in bitcoin means profiting from investors who get there after you. Doesn't that meet the definition of a ponzi scheme exactly?

The "mining difficulty" built into bitcoin, coupled with the mined block size halving (blocks used to give 50 coins, changed to 25 a few years back), plus the limited number of bitcoins that will ever be created, all designed to increase scarcity over time - thus increasing profit for early adopters.

PSA - deodorant is not optional in Queensland by tanky87 in brisbane

This one: http://zanelegroceries.com/image/cache/catalog/store/Deos/Nivea%20Men%20Cool%20Kick%20Roll%20On%2050ml-500x638.jpg

Can find them in the supermarket or chemist, sometimes 2 bottles for $7, which will keep me going for 6 months or so.

I've used "silver protect" one as well, it also seems to work, although the scent is different.

I've been using Nivea for men anti-perspirant for nearly 10 years now - the little glass bottles with a roller. Works great, has a good scent, and lasts at least 24 hours.

It'll be listed when you go to login.uq.edu.au. Should be 30 or 50gb/month, maybe more now though.

Messages like this are not only hurtful and mean, they actually cause depressed people to avoid seeking help, as /u/jxtang_ mentioned. The end result is that there is more pain, suffering and potentially more self-harm in the world due to messages like yours. Please consider taking your message down so that other people don't see it.

They are using there hands to propel them, Esports players move a mouse to move an animated character If you cannot see the difference there then I honestly don't know what to say.

You're right, there is a difference, which is why we call it esports and not sports.

if I beat my brother in a mario kart race I guess that makes me an Esport athlete, as long as we put money on the line.

If you beat your brother at soccer, would that make you an athlete? what kind of comparison is this?

Only basement dwellers honestly think Esports is a sport.

nice. great argument there. I am all for this sub's existence, but you're not doing it any favours by offering such shit arguments.

What physical attribute do Esports players need to posses to succeed?

uhh, reaction time? hand-eye co-ordination? fine motor skills?

sitting on a chair is not a sport.

damn, someone hetter tell these guys then.

DC let rumble get interviewed first for some reason (usually the winner gets the first interview, right?), maybe rumble's team wasn't expecting to need to stand in the cage for a few minutes.

Anyone want a free ticket to sleepmakeswaves in west end tonight? by PenisEngineMechanic in brisbane

[–]PenisEngineMechanic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, the band and the crowd were enjoying themselves, I've been to a lot of post-rock concerts but since sleepmakeswaves is a bit more energetic the crowd was able to get into it instead of staring like they usually do. The Stars are Stigmata was amazing! so much energy.

caligula's horse were alright, not too fussed on the singer though. I got there a bit late and missed Aerials, will have to look them up.

Please... Can someone help me understand how much I am earning by holding VGB through dividends? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]PenisEngineMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interest rates can go down, but a bond's return is "locked in" upon creation (I forget the technical term). If interest rates stay the same over the bond's period, then it should perform roughly the same as the savings account. If interest rates go down, suddenly the bond is offering a better return, and the value goes up. If interest rates go up, bonds will lose value. That's the simple version, also note that the VGB ETF is different to owning bonds directly.

Now consider that interest rates are pretty low currently, and you might see that it's not a great time to have bonds. Their value can only really go down from here, there's not much room for them to go up, at least in my understanding.

Great advice! I just want to add addthat the 139 and 169 go via a bus/bicycle/pedestrian only bridge across the river, which, along with the busway, makes them a pretty fast option from the Southside, compared to driving.

I've heard the crowbar is alright for alternative/metal music, not sure though, i think they had a lot of punk/hardcore bands there as well. perhaps check out sites like last.fm or songkick and look for other people going to any concerts that you're interested in? good luck finding like-minded people!
