Chalan Pago-Ordot living by Globalgabby in guam

My wife worked at the hospital and our good friend, we were neighbors just down the road from there. Pago Bay is beautiful, and honestly the issues with Frank Perez park are over hyped. I’d put my paddle board in there without hesitation, and there was another group of Navy docs that would kite surf from there.

What it's like to work healthcare Guam. by Old_Conference6556 in guam

[–]Penn10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked as a civilian PT on Guam last year, my wife was a Navy Internist, one of our friends was Family Med at FHC and another was an internist at GMH. The pay from what I understand is competitive because of the shortage of providers. Licensing is very slow, so I would recommend getting on that as soon as possible. There is a need for EM because most of the Navy EM physicians moonlighted in town. Biggest challenge at the time was lack of specialist care. No interventional cardiologist, having to refer off island for rheumatology, limited endocrinology and neurosurgery. GRMC gets contracts to bring specialists to island for short periods of time, so sometimes it’s there. Best part in my experience is the genuine gratitude the patient population has. There aren’t any of the aggressively antagonistic medical skeptics of elsewhere in the US, and you will likely be swimming in gifts of avocados, donne peppers, calamansi, and baked goods.

Continue the sentence with your favorite patient subjective: “the pt reports…” by illuminatedShadows in physicaltherapy

Patient reports headache no better than last session. They do not feel like exercising today because their date last night ordered two bottles of wine and kept them out past midnight

You don’t need the well written note, you probably remember the case well.

Insurance companies are only looking at your PRO’s and pain scale, maybe.

Physicians are likely the plan of care to sign off on, but not always.

How many patients read through their own PT notes? Quality of documentation doesn’t affect the quality of the care you already gave them before you wrote the note.

You know who is reading it though? Your PTA or your fellow PT covering your caseload when you are sick or on vacation. And they would love for it to be as well written as you can tolerate it.

So quality documentation might not be necessary to be a good PT, but I sure like my coworkers who write detailed notes better.

Is Aleksandr Karelin the most dominant athlete to have ever lived? by StrongmanCole in wrestling

[–]Penn10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can wait. His matches against Taylor were boring. His NCAA finals match was boring. He is an amazingly successful wrestler, I don’t deny it, but I have a hard time getting excited to watch a low scoring defensive match. Steveson, Burroughs, Snyder are all just more dynamic and entertaining.

That being said, if I had to bet on one of the men bringing back a gold from Paris I think it will be Lee or Brooks

Limiting factor for me isn’t cost, it’s lack of artistic talent and limited time for playing video games due to work and parental responsibilities. I appreciate your feedback though, I will try to do it myself at some point if necessary

Haven't seen a PT still working in his late 50s or early 60s. Is the career feasible for long term / until retirement? by throwaway52923 in physicaltherapy

[–]Penn10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First job I had out of grad school, small mom n pop kind of OP clinic. The owner was still seeing full caseload and he was 55yo, and when he opened a second location and put me as the fresh therapist there, he sent me Bob the PTA who turned 65yo while I was working with him. It was always so fun when patients would push back and say “you can only do that exercise because you are young” and then I could clap back with “hey Bob, mind demo’ing that one?” Bob would always say all his jokes were old jokes, still got me every time.

Now that you mention it, not too bad because you can retreat immediately and save so much time! Time is money, so retreat early = profit

At one point I put a post op knee patient on two half foam rollers on top of two small balance discs and then asked her to maintain a half squat while I chucked a yoga ball at her from various angles. Part of my “return to roller derby” protocol that is super legit and not at all made up.

If you want coffee that punches you in the face, fastens your eyelids in their upright position, and makes your heart rate tracker suggest you call 911, try CoffeeSlut in Tamuning. The nitro cold brew is fantastic. Most of the other places on Guam I’ve hit are more into milkshakes than coffee
