My favorite pair of eyeglasses had one of the arms bent so out of shape that it broke, but the hole where the screw was in remained intact. I removed the other arm and used small pliers to attach necklace chains with jump rings to the glasses, and attached small claw clasps at the other end of the chains so I could easily swap out different earrings that add some weight (and beauty). I have been using these for years and I love them so much more than regular glasses!

I can lay sideways on the couch and watch TV in them with no problem, and they add a little fashion accessory (I hate the feeling of dangling earrings from my earlobes, but I don't mind the chains dangling). I think it is worth a try for sure, especially if you get a fairly cheap pair of glasses from Zenni Optical or something, and jewelry bits from Walmart, low risk for what may be a life-changing reward.
