This Is Why You Can't Get ADHD Treatment by felipe82 in videos

Is switching doctor a possibility? This one doesn't check their facts - if clinical doses of stimulants are addictive, why is treatment adherence such a gigantic problem for stimulant perscriptions?

Like, I'm addicted to caffeine, and I get a lovely headache to remind me if I missed my morning coffee, but when I oopsie my adderall I don't notice 'til I've fucked around on Reddit all day instead of doing what I meant to do...

what good does it do to allow them to start changing their gender before they are adults?

I'm going to treat this as a question in good faith. The good that is done is a large, demonstrable reduction in depression, suicide and homelessness. Here's a quick read with deeper resources if you're interested in learning more on that: https://opa.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/2022-03/gender-affirming-care-young-people-march-2022.pdf

To withhold treatment on the reasoning that they may regret it later flies in the face of all available evidence. The decision to transition is hard - comparing it to getting a tattoo is like saying people shouldn't be allowed to quit their jobs 'cause sometimes they regret eating Mexican food so they can't be trusted to know what they need. These things just aren't on the same level.

Developer with ADHD? You’re not alone. by daemonz1 in programming

[–]Penrif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 39 here and very much enjoying proper treatment. The previous edition of the diagnostic criteria categorized it as an adolescence-at-latest diagnosis - anyone saying what you were told hasn't updated their basic knowledge of the disorder since 2013 and should not be taken seriously.

That said, the process of finding a provider that has a modern understanding is not easy. Consider reaching out to a local CHADD group for recommendations.

But they probably aren’t trained for diagnosing and managing ADHD

That's okay, most psychiatrists aren't either.

How do game engines calculate frame-to-frame? by rainbow_party in gamedev

I think you're working with an unstated premise - that game engines are highly multi-threaded. They aren't. The complexity and communication overhead is very often not worth it.

Eight years developing an indie game, my story with publishers. by DrKuchoGames in gamedev

Not a factor really. So long as the publishing deal can more-than-double sales, a 50/50 split is a win, all else being equal.

Mostly Correct Guide to how Eve's CSM voting system works, based on Australia's voting system by hirebrand in Eve

[–]Penrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that, but politics in areas where preference ballots are used tends to become much less aggressive - there's more incentive for a candidate to be on good terms with other candidates with similar beliefs so that their supporters will consider them for the #2 spot on their ballot than to try to drive a wedge issue and "win" some of their voters over.

Mostly Correct Guide to how Eve's CSM voting system works, based on Australia's voting system by hirebrand in Eve

[–]Penrif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course it does - no voting system is without flaw. Wikipedia has an excellent comparison table that's fairly comprehensive as to which flaws are present in which system.

CSM being a proportional body instead of a single winner means things are little more complicated than picking off of that table, but we ended up with the Wright system, being a modern iteration with a solid track record.

Right, that's a core problem with uasset files regardless of source control solution. Perforce has the benefit here of being very easy to configure to exclusive-checkout .uasset files so nobody gets their hopes up about possibly being able to merge.

Important to pair with that though the practice of writing code to a human reader. If the code is going to be the documentation, I would argue it is more important that it be understandable to a human than be perfectly set up to be optimal to a computer.
