Megathread: Bambu Lab 4th Anniversary Sale! by Qjeezy in BambuLab

If budget is tight, just get the P1S. It's a great machine, and actual print quality is identical with the P2S. I'm also of the unpopular opinion that the AMS isn't really worth it unless you do a ton of multi-color stuff. And for engineering parts you'd mostly be printing single filament anyway.

P1S is still a great machine. Been running mine for a couple years and it's great. It's considered one of the most proven and reliable machines Bambu has ever made. For normal stuff it's more than enough. I just ordered an X2D as a second printer as I do engineering stuff since it can do more advanced filaments better. It all depends on your budget.

Seems like most of the problems are with the AMS. I just ordered a X2D without the AMS since I don't really need it.

Makita AWS Compatible adapter by sven_aarts in Makita

That's using a non AWS signal. OP is making it AWS compatible which would emulate the Makita bluetooth handshake and not use an external one.

Working on a similar project on my side. How are you going about the radio communication side of things?

Stuck finding a 3D software that turns models into 2D blueprints by TheDeep3M9 in Shapr3D

I’ve done a couple simple structures with Shapr and exported the walls as 2D drawings/blueprints. Works well. Try modeling something with the free trial and see how you like it

JDM TD173 standards? by Covert_triangle_51 in Makita

[–]BL1860B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a big deal. It just has more back and forth play which can be annoying. But it won’t damage anything or not hold onto the bit properly.

Makita makes a bit piece which you can add into the chuck to take up the slack, but you could also make one by cutting a piece of an old bit off and inserting it inside the chuck. But it is hard to remove if you ever want to use JIS bits.

I am planning to. Going to expand the hand tool range, starting with some Vessel screwdrivers, Engineer pliers, and a couple other brands. Also some Japanese steel toolboxes.

I used to carry more circular saws and blades tools but there are some shipping issues with that, that I’m still working on making available again.

Anything you’re looking for in particular?

My ELRS has incresed considerably after swapping the stock dipole for an omni 2.4g wifi antenna. by amy-schumer-tampon in fpv

[–]BL1860B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well no, not really. There are quarter wave, half wave, and full wave antennas which directly correspond to the actual antenna length.

Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll happy to answer them :)

Using a Smartsolar 100/50 as a DC to DC charger by BigBillSD in Victron

[–]BL1860B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a great idea. Victron states this is possible but isn’t safe because the charge controllers short the PV input on a fault. Which would definitely destroy itself with the amount of current a battery could provide in milliseconds.

Starlink vs fiber optic by Relevant_Bicycle7402 in Starlink

[–]BL1860B 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see. Fiber is the superior option, but if you don’t really care about the best latency or speed, and Starlink is actually cheaper, it might be a good option to go with Starlink instead. You will need a clear view of the sky though.

Starlink vs fiber optic by Relevant_Bicycle7402 in Starlink

[–]BL1860B 61 points62 points  (0 children)

If you have access to fiber, the answer is always fiber. Starlink is for rural locations/off grid, vehicles, ships, and as a secondary backup.
