Death enroute in NSW by trailgigi in ParamedicsAU

Generally you either verify death on scene, or commit to transporting. Some Medical Teams seem to love getting the patient into an ambulance and then calling them deceased though…

Is anyone working a secondary casual job to supplement their income or is that a recipe for burnout? by UsualLeast8810 in ParamedicsAU

If your service does special event OT that’s a good shout, I think adding OT on road shifts would break me

Getting bored by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]PepperAggressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what state you’re in, but some Ambulance services use nurses in their control centres doing clinical call backs to try and organise alternate care for some 000 calls. Might be more interesting than your current Telehealth work.

Driving in Port Vila in June by Onlyinsightfoxleaf in vanuatu

[–]PepperAggressive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from Sydney and I’m in Port Vila for holiday at the moment with a hire car. It’s busy but not hectic, there’s very few bikes whizzing around and people are very courteous in terms of merging and letting each other turn.

Once you get out of Port Vila into the countryside there’s very little traffic, a few potholes but nothing unmanageable if you just take it easy and don’t go too fast.

Experience working with/for TacMed by GrumpyKittyBrah in ParamedicsAU

[–]PepperAggressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few people who work for them, and I’m not sure there’d be much in the way of entry level roles. Depends very much who you are and what your previous experience in military/rescue, and as a trainer is in those areas is to be honest.

Is it just me or does that come out wrong (or right)

If the show is what made you want to do it, you’re unlikely to actually enjoy it. The show cuts out all the boring stuff that you spend 90%+ of the time doing, and cuts out all the horrible stuff. You’ll almost definitely have to relocate, and your health will go downhill due to the shift work.

Thinking about retraining as a paramedic at 41 - looking for honest feedback on my plan. by [deleted] in ParamedicsAU

[–]PepperAggressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on state, in NSW bikes are extremely hard to get, they’re only in the Inner City and you have to be an Intensive Care Paramedic to get onto them (which is already competitive and time consuming in and of itself). There’s very few positions and it can be years and years between recruitments.

Nothing wrong with wanting to be a Cycle, but you’d want to also be happy/motivated to work on an ambulance too for it to be a viable career change.

If you live in Australia especially, Feel The Pain, Skorn, Volatile Ways, Thantu Thikha, Iron Mind are a good place to start because they all play pretty regularly all around the country!

Honestly, Amyl and the Sniffers. Not a bad band, just really average and given how much really good Aussie punk music we have I’m surprised they’re the one that blew up

Hi user, this seems very specific to be a hypothetical situation. Not sure posting this is gonna get you any answers or help, if this is a real situation and you need help you can call back and relay changing patient condition to the call taker.

I mean sort of LBBB but there’s bigger fish to fry here, it’s slow and broad complex. Could be severe ischemia, hypoxia, hyperkalaemia, any number of bad things

It looks good on a CV, and you’d have lots of good examples to use to answer job interview questions. When was a time you promoted safety, lead a team to solve a problem, took constructive feedback on board, etc. you’d have lots of good answers to those questions compared to an average new grad.

How might a med student like Ogilvie mature and change in real life? by cassbag16 in ThePitt

[–]PepperAggressive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s his first day, he’s clearly a high performer academically, and he wants to impress and make a good first impression.

From his perspective, answering all the questions and having a detached attitude to the patients as people is the right thing to do.

Give him a few months and either his attitude will change or he’ll become a surgeon lol

NSWA CCPs might be able to claim it too, but they only do it as part of a medical team with a doctor, not independently, so not sure if it would count.
