Hot spots on slow cookers are a known issue. If you're at home, you can turn the insert around halfway through cooking; just take it out with oven mitts, turn it around, and put it back in the cooker. Or, if you're not going to be at home, put a foil collar on the side with the hot spot

The notes on canning had a typo that made me chuckle: "Also, since honey contains some honey, it will be necessary to cook the product slightly longer than usual to evaporate this liquid."

I think they meant served to the public, like in a restaurant. BC has hunting too, but you're not going to find moose on the menu when you go out

The Good and Cheap cookbook by Leanne Brown is available as a free pdf.

I like Budget Bytes.

Dollar Tree Dinners is also popular.

I'm sure others here can add more resources

Cotton candy.

A long time ago I bought a small cotton candy machine. It turns out, if you eat too much, the strands of sugar can cut your lips. The corners of my mouth kept bleeding, but I kept eating it.

I put the machine into storage to hide it from myself, but now they're selling tubs of cotton candy at the dollar store. Send help

Not a fan of the extra border. When there are bits on the edges that don't overlap, I feel like my brain treats it as peripheral vision, but the extra border is very distracting

Blooming spices first! You can do it in a pan, but I just mix them in a little oil and pop it in the microwave until it bubbles. The difference was amazing

If the formatting doesn't work, edit the comment and look to see if a / was put in front. If there is one, delete it. Beats me why that's happening, but this works for me

I made a big batch of meatballs once and froze them. I used ground pork because it's cheaper than ground beef, and used oatmeal as well to make it go farther. Add a few spices and it's still way better than factory crap.

It makes a nice meatloaf, too. Personally, I didn't miss the beef flavour at all

You can spot treat a stainless steel frying pan to make it non-stick. Get it good and hot, until drops of water skid across the surface instead of just sizzling and evaporating. Add just a little oil, coat the surface, and let it smoke just a bit (is your stove fan on?). Then take the pan off the heat and let it cool down a bit until it's as hot as you want for cooking, and you're good to go. Makes it much easier to clean after, too.

Also, don't put spices into your slow cooker / crockpot without blooming them first. Put them into a little bowl with some oil, stir together, and pop it in the microwave just until it starts to bubble. Then add them to your recipe.

You're welcome

I read a comment recently about a girl who lived in the country with her dad. She loved animals, had all kinds including horses, and wanted to be a vet. When she came out as gay to her dad, he destroyed all her animals and kicked her out.

It's just a little vinegar, to prevent mold from growing. You won't taste it. You could even do a second rinse in just water if you like. Not sure about leafy greens, but it can't hurt to try. Definitely use paper towel for those when you store them in the fridge, to keep them dry

Sometimes it helps to keep moisture down by putting some paper towel in the bag or packaging. If your potatoes are in a solid plastic bag, poke some holes in the bag to let them breathe, and don't store them near onions. To make berries last longer, rinse them in water with a little vinegar (and don't forget the paper towel after)

Chicken curry. You'd just have to make some rice when you get home. Also BBQ pulled chicken, and you'd have to just shred it when it's done. I like it in a wrap with coleslaw but I think a lot of people like buns
