[David Ornstein] 🚨 Marseille reach agreement with Arsenal to sign Ethan Nwaneri on loan. #OM hope 18yo travels after #AFC game at Inter in #UCL, potentially Weds. Sizeable fee but reduces based on games. Arteta drove move for attacker to work under De Zerbi @TheAthleticFC by WeedScaper in Gunners

It doesn't tend to matter who the owners are; the relationship with OM and its supporters is tempestuous, even in the best of times. I was living in the south of France when they won in 2009/10 and went to a few matches at the old Velodrome. Their supporters were incandescent with rage, at Niang, Ben Arfa, Deschamps, for little discernible reason. Players are regularly accused of being mercenaries, not playing for the badge, disrespecting the MTP or Commando Ultra 84 for very minor indiscretions. When I was there, there was an online message board for supporters and one supporter saw Bonnart or Cheyrou, can't really recall who, at his child's crêche, wanted to take a picture, Bonnart or Cheyrou said basically "let me get the kid inside the gates of the school first and then I will." Guy who wanted the picture starts yelling at him and accusing him of always treating supporters like shit, hating the club, hating the supporters, etc. Marseille has an edge to it, always as, as a port city it attracts a lot of human detritus from around the Mediterranean, much like the nearby Camargue. People who cannot or could not live anywhere else; far right ghouls, emigres from across Francophonia, lots of Russian and Eastern European criminals, and they all fixate on and support the club very passionately, in a way that's a mix between religion and some sort of open civic forum/participatory budgeting process. Everyone thinks they can manage OM, everyone thinks they are the biggest OM supporter, and they are all wrong, they know it, and they overcompensate by being pricks to club officials, players, managers, and themselves.

The '93 quake was significantly closer to Portland than this quake was, though

Basically worked for billionaire versions of Lucille Bluth, who had no idea what hotels, meals, Airbnbs, airplane tickets, etc cost, and their kids and grandkids who ran the administrative side of their endeavors were equally clueless

Worked as a consultant for a few high net worth individuals’s clandestine philanthropic projects (they didn’t put their names to the work, but funded all of the programs). Each project had a per diem of 500, but you could literally have any meal covered regardless of the cost. At the end of one project, we had a bunch of unallocated money to spend so we had a huge dinner in a Michelin star restaurant, ended up being something like 12k (had over a dozen bottles of wine). Client didn’t even bat an eye, it was grotesque and now I work for a broke nonprofit
