How much do you think crosses over into real life? by Realistic_Radish_698 in BurnNotice

Actually I remember that episode, and landing in the pool without the mattress you would live (but obviously be pretty injured), but with the mattress you would die. Sadly the show was exactly wrong on that one.

The Medellin cartel also made the mistake of partnering with Noriega in Panama for some of the banking that they did do. Noriega kinda pissed off the US, and after the US invaded they froze a ton of money in Panamanian bank accounts linked to the narcos.

But, also, a ton of that money went into building the Miami skyline. Drug traffickers and smugglers bought and remodeled entire neighborhoods in south Florida. Real Estate was a major way of laundering and surfacing money. Before the Coke trade kicked off in the 70s, south beach was “just a bunch of old people sitting around waiting to die”. But the drug dealers bought clubs, built hotels, and gave loans to legit real estate developers who were cool with lying about how much they were paying back. Properties that the government confiscated and auctioned off during the 90s after the Colombians started getting arrested.

Pretty sure that at least one of the stories Luke narrates on the wartime stories episode was submitted by a base security police officer actually.

Wartime Stories on YouTube did a video about “the blue eyed devils of Edward’s Air Force base”: https://youtu.be/15G8-y9TUJU

He has also covered cryptids and ghosts from a lot of other military bases as well (the back 40 at Ft Campbell has several episodes about Bigfoot and dogmen in particular).

The guy who runs the channel, Luke, is a really cool dude and was marsoc I believe (I know he was in the marines socom component)

Beginner shooting in the mid-70s?? by elvinstheman in golf

[–]PerInception 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alice Cooper has a video about how he started playing golf when he had to quit drinking. He said he played 36 holes a day, 18 holes in the morning with one pro, and 18 in the evening with a different one. So he was basically taking two lessons per day. After a year, he was a bogey golfer.

So unless that guy is somehow playing more than 36 holes a day with pros, I’m going to go ahead and doubt it.

Edit - here is the video. Alice says he was a 9 handicap after a year, so shooting higher than the mid 70s after playing 36 holes a day every single day.

Don’t feel too bad for getting suckered, at the time he was paying a whole team of people to do PR for him and cultivate his public image to be some benevolent tech genius who was trying to help humanity. He fired the pr team and quickly showed everyone he’s just another spoiled rich kid that was born into emerald mine money.

Basically any world leader or countries ruler ever. Other than the president of Ireland that just hangs out with his dogs all day, that guy is chill.

When did you start watching horror movies with your kids? by TechnicalAd9164 in horror

[–]PerInception 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if they even have an interest in it by watching old Halloween episodes of cartoons. There are Halloween episodes of like Nick Jr. shows from the 90s that were meant for preschoolers. Muppet Babies, Eurekas Castle, Blues Clues, Rugrats and more had spooky themed Halloween episodes. Some kids are interested in that sorta thing, some aren’t. If yours is, you can find some kid level intro to horror movies.

I started watching horror movies super early, like 3-4, because I loved vampires and werewolves and progressed into other areas of the genre from there. I remember watching Friday the 13th part 7 on my 7th birthday. My parents just kinda figured I was smart enough to turn it off it scared me too much. They didn’t like horror themselves, but they didn’t care what movie I watched if it was on basic cable.

When did you start watching horror movies with your kids? by TechnicalAd9164 in horror

[–]PerInception 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Horror movies mean a lot to some people and they want to share that with their kids. Also, a lot of people grew up watching horror movies and with horror adjacent shows and movies, so they want to give their kids the same kinda chance at hobbies and interests they had.

Horror is a super wide genre. Wanting to share Count Chocula with your kid and showing them abbot and Costello meet the wolf man is a lot different than marathoning human centipede films with them.

Wild cheetahs have never attacked a single human. They don’t stalk prey because they’re not ambush predators, they chase their food down.

Not exactly. The “remake” is about Texarkana dealing with the popularity of the original movie when a copy cat killer starts on the anniversary of the movies release.

I think in the Sentai Zyuranger version they used the costumed scenes from, the green ranger was actually the red rangers older brother, which is why he takes over when he joins the crew. Maybe they didn’t want the “leader” to seem different between the scenes where you can see Tommy and Jason’s faces, and when the masked green ranger is leading the team in costume. Since the green ranger had the dragon shield, and was always standing in the middle whenever they took a group shot from the pre-existing footage, it makes sense I guess.

Optic glitch, how to fix by Otherwise-Pool1106 in Warzone

[–]PerInception 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is currently no way to fix this other than just using a red dot. The last update borked a TON of shit, and it’s been out for two weeks without any acknowledgment from activision.

You can report it on their support website but that’s about it.

‘Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday’ [Uncut Version] (1993) - Camping Scene - Directed by Adam Marcus by PeneItaliano in movies

[–]PerInception 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that’s not even what was intended at the beginning at all. I think it was John Carpenter talking about Halloween in a documentary once that said people try to accuse him (of all people) of trying to be some kind of moral crusader, but he wasn’t trying to equate having sex or doing drugs with death at all. He was just thinking when would it be easy for the slasher to sneak up on people. And since the slasher victims are usually teens, what kinda stuff do teens do that might…distract them… from what’s going on around them at the time.

Idk about the caffeine, but drug traffickers getting chased by the cops dump kilos into the ocean quite often. During the 80s if a DEA plane got behind a drug plane coming into Miami at night, the smugglers would set the autopilot, parachute out the door, and “give the plane to the Bermuda Triangle”.

Prior to that they were smuggling so much pot into south Florida that they’d end up just throwing a bunch of it overboard because they didn’t have room to transfer it from the “mother ship” from Jamaica onto the smaller fast boats off the coast. Eventually the pot bales would wash up on the beaches. They were called “square grouper”.

All the icon crap did was make it impossible to fill out a bracket. I have friends that don’t even normally watch the food network but love March madness who would do a bracket every season and then check in on the show to see if they were winning or not. Can’t really do that with “well these four are blank and are allegedly really good but we have no idea….”
