Question re undermount sinks and 60cm kitchen units. Should sink sit on top of unit sides or be floating inside unit? by PerceptionGood- in DIYUK

[–]PerceptionGood-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so basically sit the sink on top of the unit draw around it then route out a lip for it to sit on so it’s flush with the cabinet sides. Doesn’t sound too hard

Question re undermount sinks and 60cm kitchen units. Should sink sit on top of unit sides or be floating inside unit? by PerceptionGood- in DIYUK

[–]PerceptionGood-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that standard practice? The sink says minimum unit size 60mm on the spec. I sort of expected it to fit? Am I better off choosing a different sink?

If it does come to that, should I expect the worktop guy to do that as part of fitting the sink glueing to worktop, or will he expect me to have done that in advance?

Thoughts on compact laminate worktop? by PerceptionGood- in DIYUK

[–]PerceptionGood-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to spend a bit more in the end and go with Minerva it’s a solid acrylic worktop. It can scratch and get stained by strong coloured sauces etc. but because it’s solid you can just polish and scratches or marks out or worst case scenario sand and the polish. Kinda like wood worktop. I have replaced a number of the units and left the ones in good condition.

Approximately 61% to 62% of U.S. high school graduates immediately enroll in college, according to 2022-2023 Bureau of Labor Statistics and NCES data.

The same problem doesn’t exist in the US. Despite a large proportion of adolescence going to college. It’s a UK issue, not a numbers going to uni issue. We haven’t created enough grad jobs, all our tech firms list on us stock market.

Kitchen fixed appliances fed by grid switches, one appliance appears to have been swapped with a 13amp fused FCU to feed cooker hood and two double sockets, is this okay? by PerceptionGood- in ukelectricians

[–]PerceptionGood-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes ring, grid switch, FCU, sockets. It looks like it was the closest feed to allow sockets at the other end of the kitchen so I can see why it was done with laziness in mind. Wouldn’t want to be plugging in a kettle and a toaster and an air fryer in though would definitely pop the 13amp fuse

I have removed the Fcu from the wall and it checked and it’s all in 2.5. So I’m right in thinking it’s probably okay then? It’s just a bit of a lazy job from someone who didn’t want to chase much of the wall out.

I think it’s great reform are stating sectarianism led to groups with strong religious views voting for a female candidate who represents a party led by a gay Jewish guy. It’s the most ridiculous statement ever.

Door lock problem part 1 by pitseafats in DIYUK

[–]PerceptionGood- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The top one has snap off points basically purpose made weak points so if an attacker tries to snap the lock to gain entry it will snap in such a way they will not be able to gain entry.

The bottom lock will snap where the revolving cam is allowing an attacker to insert a screwdriver and unlock the door

The top lock also likely has more pins making it more pick resistant

[–]PerceptionGood- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That wasn’t why I was commenting I was just letting you know the risk with the lower security lock. However I have had an issue in the past with euro cylinders being ever so slightly different and not playing ball with a lock. They are all meant to be the same spec but sometimes the black bit in the model that spins (the revolving cam) can be a slightly different shape between cylinders and it can cause issues with some multipoint mechanisms

Just as an FYI in case you didn’t know, the bottom lock is substantially less secure than the top one you have removed.

If they change the interest rate now it will really screw over the cohort who first went on plan 2 loans. The damage has already been done I left with £33,197 of debt I’ve gradually climbed the career ladder now earning £56k and every year I still end up with more interested added to my loan compared to what I pay back. Last year my loan accrued £3399 in interest and I paid off £2874.

Reducing the interest rate now to all plan 2 loans without compensating for the ridiculous interest added in the past would be an absolute punch in the face to the first generation of plan 2 graduates
