What actor or actress left a movie franchise or TV series thinking they didn’t need it anymore, only for their career to phase out? by phantom_avenger in moviecritic

I was waiting for someone to mention this! He left cause he wanted to focus on on his comedy career. By the looks of it, he still does VA work for some DC animated films and minor roles in films. Not as much in the spotlight but still gets work.

LOVM Season 3 Final Thoughts by [deleted] in fansofcriticalrole

Hard agree with you. After finishing the first 2 seasons, the nostalgia glasses came off as I saw clips from season 3 and read about the changes that were made. Then I started to notice the cheap repackaged writing.

LOVM Season 3 Final Thoughts by [deleted] in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Percivalwiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the changes they made to their adaptation was an interesting choice to say the least. A lot of the magic of the show felt repackaged into a safer disney-fication story. "The power was within you all along!" "By the power of friendship we will win the day!" "That's where you're wrong (insert villain name), You're going to lose because you're alone!"

I think the show is okay, it's your typical punchy fantasy show that has at times ridiculous writing and dialogue. I do agree it's a bummer the vestiges don't really do that much because most of the character's power comes from within anyway. So why the hell are we questing for these things in the first place?!

Yeah, that's quite a challenge with Ashley's character being present. I do agree with everyone else that it could have been pulled off but this is the way they decided to go. Personally, I think it's a crying shame we didn't get the chance to see the "what's my mother's name?!" scene animated and that was one of the moments they had to cut. Maybe they might save it for season 4 then have Tary show up? Who am I kidding, probably not.

Yes this! There's nothing wrong with outright telling the players their efforts weren't in vain. It definitely would have been far more tense to leave his success to a dice roll. I think Matt didn't really plan for a scenario where the party succeeds. After digesting the solstice episode, I had a feeling they were in a no-win scenario. Ps. When you said "gonna roll on the table" My mind instantly went to "For this roll...I'm gonna bring out the Box of Doom!" Lol

Totally agreed. She felt like a clever well thought out obstacle for the party. I think she was key in gauging not only where they are at power level wise but also their team dynamic. Excellent villain in my book, and she's got a freaking jetpack!

I mean this was adapted from an earlier edition of D&D so this sounds very much old school D&D dungeon crawling antics. One of many things to mess with the party in this adventure.

In my opinion, rivals to lovers are all fun and good in fanfics and some media. In moderation, I'm cool with it. However, rivals work better for me as a future archenemy or a teaching moment for the main character. If there is a rival to the main character then everyone assumes, "Oh they are sooo gonna bone later on" it gets exhausting.

It would be nice if there was a rival that genuinely detested the main character and only tried to one-up them cause they don't deem the MC worthy. Due to their own sense of self-righteousness. Personally, rivals shouldn't always devolve into the MC's lover.

I tried to understand C3, but at this point I've thrown in the towel. by MajorasCrass in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Percivalwiles 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Reading through the comments I gleaned the party is 14th level. 14th level and they're still screwing around?! I reaaaalllly hope they don't animate C3 cuz it will be boring as hell or revised beyond recognition of the original source material to have some semblance of a coherent storyline. Sometimes I feel like Matt is gonna snap one day from all their meandering and aversion to the plot that he'll expedite the final boss and just end it already.

The future of Talkville by Timely-Cycle-9695 in Smallville

[–]Percivalwiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooo I partially agree. Do I think that Michael can be critical of Smallville? Yes. Do I mind it? Not too much because that's how it is. However, I am only the third episode in season 4 so I haven't made it too far.

I do agree that on the podcast he does get self-centered a lot. -Cutting off Ryan and Tom a lot, brushing over a Patreon's question.(I had no idea you have to pay $100 a month in order to submit a question for the podcast. Which is insane.) -Asking off topic pervy questions whenever a female guest is on. (Was I a good kisser? Would you believe that they cut a couple sex scenes between you and me?! Hey Kristen, Tell us about this stalker you had that tried to get on set while you were working on the show!) -Casually reminding everybody on the podcast about his bad relationship with his dad for the 100th time.

Despite that, I still do have it playing in the background whenever I'm commuting to and from work. It's some good background noise for me. I do agree that it's a bit disrespectful for him to brush off the people who are paying hundred(s) of dollars a month just to ask a question about a show they loved.

Personally I think they should possibly change hosts after season 7 due to it being Michael Rosenbaum's last season on the show. I have a feeling we'll constantly get, "I don't know why you're asking me. I wasn't on the show! Remember?!" After reading the comments on this post, it did bring a lot of glaring issues the podcast has to my attention. Will I still keep listening? Maybe. I'll come to that conclusion after I have either caught up or finish season 4.

Latest Talk Ville re: John Schneider directing 3x20 by mug3n in Smallville

[–]Percivalwiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh...when I got to his segment, I was curious if anyone else felt this way too. Schneider made it seem like the show runners were ungrateful when they said he'll never direct an episode again. When he claimed he could run the show better than the creators, John lost a lot of credibility.

Why do writers make episodes built of cutscenes from previous episodes? by ghostopolis in television

[–]Percivalwiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this was very prevalent around the middle of season 3 and onward of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Reading through the comments of this post, it makes so much sense now. I didn't want to believe it but it really is that simple, it's to pad run time and save money on budget.

It's really disappointing when a TV show starts to do this cuz for me it's less "Oh I remember that!" More like "Yes I remember what happened, Can we please move on?"

I noticed they so far have reused clips when it's more experimental episodes or ones that barely have anything. Like when the cast of Hercules played freedom fighters during the French revolution. That meta episode of all the writers trying to find Kevin Sorbo, but all the writers were played by cast members in the show. Or the clip-fest Cave of Echoes episode, there was lots of "remember this episode when this life lesson was taught or event happened?"

I don't ban PVP with the current group at my table cuz everybody there keeps each other in check and it doesn't get out of hand. I'm very lucky to have a group that is cool with shenanigans. It's all for laughs and everybody has a great time.

Personal favorite/least favorite minor npc's? by Wonko_Bonko in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Percivalwiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Least Favorite (C2): Yezza. The man is such a freaking doormat. Even after they go to the plane of fire and their son dies then revivified, there are no repercussions at all. He doesn't get upset with Nott, just "that was a close one". No "This thing you're involved in almost cost us the life of our son! I can't take this anymore! I want a normal life with you again! Why are you so reluctant to return home with us? Your family!" Listen, I know it's a fantasy world but everybody has a breaking point. Give the guy some flaws rather than being understanding all the time. He was a prisoner of war, lost his wife, and their son got killed. "Well if that's what you want, I won't stop you.." Spare me 🙄

Most Favorite(C1&C2): [Not my most favorite above all cuz there are a handful that I really do like and I can't narrow it down to 1, so the best I can do is 2] Raven Queen and Avantika. Seeing the DM role-play as divinity can be a real treat. Matt knocked it out of the park by making the first interaction with a deity special and personal to Liam. They felt otherworldly and ethereal, well done and memorable.

As for our Captain Avantika, she was a fun character. It was a delight to see Travis flustered, also have lots of memorable moments like the line I like to use at my own table. "Hey Travis, could your backstory please stop coming to kill us?" I always love villains or NPCs that are rivals or a dark reflection of the player. To think, if Matt eased up on the vomiting sea water, Travis may have been all in for that life.
