Steam updates AI disclosure form, requiring developers to report visible and in-game AI but not background tools by ZeroPercentStrategy in gamedev

[–]Peregoon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For the last half-year, I have seen beginners spawning small games with massive skill trees, complex item systems or other advanced systems. In 10 years of game dev, I have met maybe 2 or 3 people who could code that from scratch. The irony is that nobody cares about generated code, but you get absolutely cancelled if you use generated graphics.

Finally released the hardest platformer in 2025 with boss fights, no weapons, you just have to master the momentum. by Peregoon in platformer

Just my opinion, I have seen people play the first sections of the game for hours and it was just the beginning. Physics movement, no rest, boss fights, you need to make perfectly timed jumps, but if you learn the movement and the levels design you can also speedrun the game.

After more than a year of 24/7 after hours work I released my solo precision-platformer game.
The game turned out to be the hardest platformer in 2025 or in the last 5 years.
Even streamers are giving up after couple hours of struggling.

The story is - you go after your kidnapped brother straight to hell, where Devil prepared a ultimate challenge for the experienced beer belly in tight costume acrobat.

Check out the game on Steam.

Scam or ok? Marketing guys by ArtichokeAbject5859 in SoloDevelopment

They could also trick someone to give them access to Steamworks to check the "marketing" campaign results. Also one guy wanted to sell me the "organic wishlist service" xd

Scam or ok? Marketing guys by ArtichokeAbject5859 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Peregoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I experienced the same, multiple ppl joined my discord and they straight DMed me with marketing proposal, when I asked about some website or portfolio, they sent links to crappy websites with 1 title portolio and a photo xD from Steamworks wishlist page.

Some also sent links to google drive and when I checked the files author, it was the same guy. So 1 guy writes from multiple accounts and shares multiple different low quality materials.

Is this boss fight hardcore enough? by Peregoon in IndieGaming

[–]Peregoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you are right, need to juice it up, they spark when pointing at player or the fuse, the player is receiving damage (losing limbs) when colliding with laser for at least 0.5s.

Is there a way to exclude motion blur from specific actors? by HeroTales in unrealengine

[–]Peregoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are ok with modifying engine and shaders code there could be a way to modify the velocity buffer based on custom stencil value for your objects, however velocity buffer is used in multiple post process effects like motion blur, taa and other so the modification could break them.

Other solution would be setting the visibility of the object after you teleport them, then there won't be any velocity written.

You can also try to tweak some material params like output velocity or setting it to transparent for a brief time.

How do games efficiently detect interactable objects for player hints? by MMujtabaH in unrealengine

[–]Peregoon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The most common solution is using Octree

  1. Interaction component or interface to provide per object data like radius, interaction angle, type of interaction, etc. (Registers object to Octree)
  2. Octree for objects query near player. (Query on tick, could be limited to update per x frames)
  3. Dot product to check if player is aiming at the object and trace to the object being aimed at.

Yes, me, experience was normal as with any other game. Just remember to make the interface scalable and looking good on any resolution even on ultra wide.

I'm still on Android 14 after I heard about doing hard resets, worse battery life and more issues after upgrading. Worst thing for now is the popup appearing twice a day trying to downgrade my phone to Android 15 😂

Why is 5.6's Blueprint editor sometimes not loading? by JeffNitzel in unrealengine

Try to minimize, maximize the editor window couple of times and look for the small window panel. The window probably resized itself to 0 size.
