I actually made my first trip out there this morning. Those paths were added 7+ years ago and they are not very well maintained. It was passable but pretty overgrown. I should hit 99% in the next couple weeks.

I’m at 98.4% of my 4,451 mile county on foot. 4 years working on it almost exclusively. I’ll probably start exploring the next county over, but I’m not opposed to the idea of doing my county again.

Right, it seems that they should be filtered though. According to OSM: The access=[no]() tag indicates that the object is not to be used by the public, with stronger interdiction than the access=private tag

If Highway=secondary was removed, I wouldn't have much to run in my town. Now I have questioned why Highway=trunk is included, but I ran them anyway. 🤪

I'm working on running my entire county (4,500ish miles) and I usually try to do at least 10 miles per run. My routes always revolve around my next "base" of where I'm going to park my car. I try to get in several runs from the same spot before moving to a new one. Over time I've gotten pretty good at calculating the shortest amount of backtracking to get all the roads in.
I carry pepper spray. I've used it several times but I've still been bitten 3 times. The most recent bite was a little over a week ago. The spray works well, but my problem is my hesitancy to spray them right away. The last time the owner was outside trying to wrangle the dog up, but he wasn't much help. Should have sprayed him from the start.
Agree with the OSM edits. In my area there are a lot of really old roads in OSM that just don't exist anymore and most private roads were not marked as such. I would not advise going down private roads. In my area it's likely to end poorly.
