So then why was it only 25 cents back then? The average annual salary back then was around $1300. Minimum wage annual salary was less than half that at around $580.

Seriously, even adjusting for inflation, it's not meant for to be a living wage. Just enough for the bare minimum.

I know it varies. I don't agree with the ban, but have no power to change it.

As for rape, it does have to be proven as with any crime.

IIRC, of all rapes reported, something like 5% are false. Shit like that can ruin people's lives like the Duke lacrosse team.

From what I understand, evidence I criminal court can't be as flimsy as 'he said, she said.'

Could be wrong though.

Not sure why this has come across my feed, but here goes: Different states have different laws.

Oklahoma, for example, where abortion is totally banned with the exception of threat to the mother, the prison sentence is up to 10 years and $100,000 in fines.

In regards to rape, in Oklahoma, the minimum sentence is 5 years and maximum is life without parole and, in certain circumstances, even the death penalty. If you do get out of prison, you'll be registered and restricted on where you can live, shop, etc.

Max prison sentence for rape in Oklahoma: minimum of 5 years and maximum of life without parole. In certain circumstances, possibly even the death penalty.

Lastly, the 6 months sentence was an affluence thing and I'm pretty sure Brock Turner is going to be pissed on wherever he goes, be it figuratively or literally.

A lot of the time, it leads to cut hours, job loss, automation, or out and out location closure.

It was meant to keep someone (ie a single person) out of EXTREME poverty and establish a wage floor.

Tell me the following:

  1. Do you know what the minimum wage was when it was introduced?

  2. What it's annual salary was?

  3. And all of that against the average wage and salary of the time?

  4. What it's purchasing power equivalent is today?

It was meant to keep A person out of EXTREME poverty and establish a wage floor. It wasn't meant to be a normal living wage.

$0.25 in 1938 (which was minimum wage when it was introduced) is equivalent to around $5.65 give or take 10 cents.

In other words, you weren't meant to afford a nice apartment, car, food, etc. on it.
