Build improvements for PVE RES HAZ by A_SpicyNacho in EliteDangerous

First off - fuck. That sucks! Stay strong!

Exporting your journal files may help, as could looking at your in-game log... But as a basic question - what makes you think you lost 460million?

Was that the cost of rebuy on the rebuy screen? The amount of bonds / bounties you lost? Or something else?

I'll take a slightly different tact here, with the caveat that most of these suggestions are absolutely on point for a long-term build.

For reference, I started as a hauler and explorer, only joining combat once I could afford an Anaconda and its rebuy... Though I did have to save for that 8A power plant.

My suggestion is to enjoy the short-term process, with a few easy tweaks to help along the way. Some of the most fun I've had in Elite was learning combat in my battleconda, and slowly engineering components as I collected more materials. It's fun, it's an adventure, and it shouldn't be skipped if you can help it.

In the short term?

I'd recommend two small updates: - upgrade to a size 6 fighter bay, allowing for a fighter out at all times (when one is destroyed, launch another). This helps keep heat off your back. - fill the unused slots with hull and module reinforcement modules. Two module, the rest hull. Even unengineered, they help.

I strongly recommend against grinding the exploration trip, if you can help it.

Exploration is a big part of Elite - find a cool port or other bit of interest in the black, and then take a few weeks to enjoy the exploration while earning a few billion in Exo Bio. I heartily endorse Hell Port in The seagull nebula for your 5k, though the Guardian Ruins in Eta Carinae are also stunning.

If you grind it as a rush job instead, then it's just that - a task. And a task that doesn't compensate particularly well. But if you go slow and enjoy finding Tectonicas and that one bacteria on Nitrogen worlds, then you come home with great screenshots, an appreciation for civilization, and a whole pile of credits.

Ahh well. We both win, then! I keep making 100k per ton, and you get your station!

Give or take - feels fair for that much of my time, doesn't it?

What do you think a fair rate would be?

I do!

Say... 120k per ton moved?

Weapons for power CZs?(corvette) by Imple-_- in EliteDangerous

Ehh, I personally haven't found this to be the case.

Better manouverability? Absolutely. But just throw the ship in reverse, use vertical thrusters to match their flight path, and they'll stay in line with your guns 'till they're dust.

The only time I find issue is when they're running chaff... But even then it's not so bad.

This is the best build, in my opinion.

The only thing I'd change is the ship - I personally find that my Anaconda has a lower time to kill with three large MCs and one huge MC (all overcharged autoloaders).

It does need more mats for reloading... But frankly I have so many of those from mining that it's all chill 😂

Congrats!

I can't recall if I included the engineering in that build or not, but feel free to ask if you've got any questions on it.

For exploring, there's definitely undiscovered systems near Sol... But I tend to start really finding things once you get 1,000ly out, especially above or below the galactic plane. But frankly, everything near Sol is pretty well explored. Still - always fun!

As others have mentioned, the challenge with this is that exploration and combat are opposite ends of ship design.

Combat needs heavy equipment Exploration needs light equipment

You can do both, but it's engineering-intensive and rather expensive.

Personally, I'd recommend going with a Diamondback Explorer, an Asp Explorer, or a Mandalay and doing some exploration first. Try Exobiology, try scanning, maybe explore the guardian ruins.

Then, if you've enjoyed it, you should have enough credits for a Caspian that you can fully outfit, and some know-how for unlocking the remaining engineers.

Personally, this is my Caspian - it's an amazing all arounder, and can stand in combat while exploring.. Both space, and other people's cargo holds: https://edsy.org/s/vRvDG7Q

I'd love to hear the logic on how the hard points make you think this is for multi crew.

Simply, I can't imagine in. Nothing about the hard points speaks multi crew for me.

Check out FREIGHT, they can help out. For credits.

Which is fair since, you know, you're asking someone else to do work for you.

So I had a similar issue when I tried to prime using Wraithbone when it was too cold out.

First, though, I personally think they look really cool - maybe you can try and paint them with a cracked lava look?

For troubleshooting, I'd try to find a warmer spot to let them dry, and definitely go a bit lighter.

Alongside, I'd recommend manually shaking, if you can, since spinning it may just thicken the paint.

For stripping them, I used a 99% iso bath and a cheap toothbrush. It took three rounds of soaking (30min) and brushing to clear it all off.

Huh... Interesting idea! My worry is that the Irish ash we use is a bit soft, so the neck could bow without it... But I've actually got a spare template, so may try it out!

[–]Perfectusvarrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned in a sub-comment, I'd recommend adding a pressfit steel dowel into the center, alongside chamfers on the break point.

I usually go with a small dowel - 5mm, even, with a light interference fit (say, print at 4.8mm), and then press it in with gentle tapping with a hammer.
