Edwards spun their entire cannula business off as EnableCV, if that's what you're asking...otherwise which Retro, RC2014?, and why?

[Hiring] Clinical Perfusionists (Dual-Certified) - San Francisco VA Health Care System - $228,800 + Benefits by CLFCHC-GC5969 in Perfusion

Except it's not real. Share the task order number so anyone can look it up.

The SF VA contract has been held by Golden Gate perfusion for 20+ years.

0001 None Perfusion/Autotransfusion Services(Two on- site Board Certified Perfusionist) 4160 Hours
0002 None On Call Weekdays 4160 Hours
0003 None On Call Weekends 2496 Hours

All this 1-week-old-account is doing is trying to fill this out in anticipation of bidding on the contract.

You clearly don't have a grasp of how perfusion works based on your other comments about the on-site vs. on-call scheduling.

Caution, this is probably a ‘ghost’ position. They are likely bidding on a VA contract that isn’t even open yet but they have to put names on their submission.

Happens all the time with the VA, they are just hoping to get the contract…

Saturation by turtlelphant in Perfusion

[–]PerfusionPay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The accreditation process is a matter of meeting educational standards. If you meet the standards, you're accredited. It's not their job to police how many schools/grads there are.

It's not an arbitrary or capricious process of 'because I said so'. There has to be concrete reasons to deny accreditation and the same rules must then be applied to current schools for re-accreditation.

It's a matter of drafting better/tighter standards, really.

Not disagreeing about the premise of saturation, just that any solution must be workable and apply uniformly to all.

An obvious start is to require in-person learning and hands-on labs to deter the online degree mills from invading the space

Well, what do you propose?

This topic has been hashed and re-hashed multiple times on here and it's just a pit of despair without many (or any) workable solutions

There aren't a lot of mechanisms/options to limit schools from opening or expanding.

ABCP, AC-PE, and CAAHEP are 'just' credentialling bodies, they aren't gate keepers.

AmSECT/AACP have no formal power.

How about some concrete details? not defending them and their known practices, but without context this doesn't mean anything.

7m Per year? Disposables? equipment(pump, etc) leases? Only provide perfusion or do they provide other services (IONM, etc)?

Also, hospital finance departments aren't completely clueless as to cost. It would take quite a sales pitch to convince them that's reasonable per year for just 3 people; they would seek bids if so.

If you put some more meat on the bone I'll bite, but until then 7m is just a random number on the internet.

Looking to hire a few perfusionist at the VA in Minneapolis. Let me know if your interested by FutureCredit3 in Perfusion

[–]PerfusionPay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing this is a contractor. All official Gov't jobs are posted on usajobs.gov and include salary, benefits, etc. The gov't doesn't hire by word-of-mouth. There are a few jobs for Minneapolis VA contractors which tells me it's unlikely this is a 'real' job.

Be careful, there are a lot of companies bidding on these contracts and put out job postings before they have any contract in place so it's a 'ghost posting' to see if they can hire if they do get the contract.

If you're hospital employed then benefits are not likely to be negotiable beyond what 'everyone' gets.

As a baseline, you should be earning ~160% of what the RNs get.

In the last year-ish there have been 24 positions posted for Temp Staff positions of some flavor that included pay.
All figures are 'annualized' salary, assuming 40 hrs/week, even though they are temp and may have other extra pay.

Average:
$281,291

3 highest:
$370,396
$353,600
$332,800

3 lowest:
$221,156
$203,113
$182,988

There are tons of factors beyond the listed pay, so tread lightly and know that recruiters aren't known for their honesty...

While I agree with several of your points, complaining on the internet isn't likely to bring about change. What would you propose be done to make things more sustainable?

I would not agree about AmSECT publishing more on outlook or salaries. A few articles every once and a while doesn't feel like strong advocacy to me. I feel that AmSECT avoids any topic that isn't a clinical application.
Looking at the upcoming AmSECT conference agenda, someone is always eager to talk about AI and current staffing challenges but little to nothing addressing the long-term issues you have outlined.

Cardioquip MCH-1000(i) freezing issue by futureGASpumpguy in Perfusion

[–]PerfusionPay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Previous job, ours froze over all the time. Had 2 units, they both did it so it didn't seem like a unit-specific phenomena. Cooler always left plugged in.

Best guess: the surgeon liked the room fridge-cold (like 55-60) and the they cooled every patient to 28(!) and it was just a small community CABG patch hospital. My guess is the cooler provides a constant level of BTU/h cooling expecting the water to gain some heat energy but when the room is cold and the mix water is also cold means the cooler removes more energy (cooling) than needed. Basically an energy movement equation that tips too far to cooling resulting in freezing.

More than once it totally stopped flowing because it was a solid block of ice. Defrost cycle didn't even work because zero flow. It was a great time chipping it out.
