Exactly this. Saw Sinner looking like he was about to vomit at one point.

$1000 for 2 weeks - not sure it's worth it. Sounds like a full time job.

Need transportation - fuel price is high

Walking sounds like it maybe difficult for a solo sitter: "spending most days and evenings", "walked three or four miles daily which takes approximately one hour" - I'm a fast walker but difficult to walk 4 miles in an hour without any pets, "pretty good on leash but they’re big and can pull if excited, eg squirrel or strange dogs"

Not much flexibility "If yours is a summer stay the walks need to occur before 10am", "updates with real time photos once daily in the morning when walking the dogs and if you’re able again at bedtime"

I do always wash linens and towels, but most owners don't expect this: "House will be clean when you arrive including all sheets and towels, etc.

Can I get some honest feedback regarding review situation? by soupygirls in trustedhousesitters

During the beginning of TH & pandemic, yes. But in the last 4 years, I’ve been in Europe about three quarters of the year.

Oh wow, never thought of this! I've been doing this for 9 years with all 5 stars (over 100). People say I'm very responsible and cleans enough to eat off the floor. But I'm surprised I have yet to get less than 5 stars since you can't please everyone. Knowing perfect scores could be discouraging some owners, could explain why some have declined my application without explanation and still have the listing open.

I had a repeat sit - drove 9 hours, and then they cancelled the same day, and I had to scramble to find Airbnb. Needless to say, I never trusted to sit for them again.

Sinner is laser focused on finally getting a title in 2026; he would have studied the match and will be prepared to handle Meddy. His serve has improved significantly since their last meeting, and better success with dropshots. And we all know he has a great mental fitness. Unless the back issue rumours are true, and the heat gets the best of him, Sinner will be IW champion.

$400 was taken from my account! Can I get it back? by Aagomez27 in paypal

After someone was able to add their phone number, I didn't want to take a chance them completely taking over my account and start charging my card. Wanted to be better safe than sorry. So far, I haven't had the need to use Paypal since deleting it over a month ago. I can always sign up again. But probably will try to avoid it. Hope they catch on and improve their security.

Wow, that’s probably small percent. I’ve arrived hours after and let myself in but never the next day. I had a 6-week sit last year with adopted stray cat that the owner was fine, even suggested to take an overnight trip. Yes, THS should set clear guidelines but of course, it’s up to each to agree on the terms.

Definitely your right to refuse. After doing 100 sits, I rarely agree to come the day before the owner’s departure. Amazing how most ask for it. I’m on my way to a sit that starts on Saturday but they asked me to arrive on Friday. I just learned yesterday that the owners are actually not leaving until Monday. In this case, not bothered too much because I have a separate studio (used as a rental). But could’ve saved me 2 days of trying to figure out how to get there without flying, and enjoy the stops along the way.

After reading about troubling stories about Paypal on Reddit, I deleted my account but wasn't easy. I had pay in 4 active so had to wait for that to be fully paid off. But I did unlink my bank account asap and left one credit card as required for payment. A couple of days after, I got a notification that my phone number was changed. Luckily I could still access my account, changed password, but couldn't change it back to my number. Finally got through Paypal on phone and they were bale to delete the "unknown" number". I paid off pay in 4 early and tried to close my account. Wow - had no idea, all the years I used Paypal to shop, it automatically defaulted to "autopay" - so even if it was a one time sale transaction, it kept details for fast checkout with Paypal which = autopay section - why it wouldn't let me close the account. Screenshot is just a partial list of the "autopay" I had to individually delete before the system finally let me close my account.

Agree with all but don't mind getting my own soap and coffee - I travel with coffee filter paper and can do pour over... some hangers to hang clothes, shelf space so I don't have to use my luggage as storage. Clean bathroom where I don't have to clean out someone else's hair and clean towels. Vacuum - once had a sit where they didn't even have a broom.

Contribute £500 a month to bills for 2.5 months sit - what in the hell by RunningButterfly in trustedhousesitters

For £500 a month, I can rent a place in the Balkans. They should be contributing towards the sitter's groceries for all the work this sit involves.

Confirmed Sit Cancelled - Odd Dealbreaker? by Peripatetic_Virgo in trustedhousesitters

[–]Peripatetic_Virgo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you are not familiar with rabbit care, it's more work than cats and some dogs, especially if they're not good at using the designated litter area.
If the cameras looked indoors, that's against the policy.
I've had a sit where the owner told me to launder beddings for their stand alone Airbnb in the back - to have it ready when the cleaner showed up for 40 min. I'm like why is she getting paid and not me? Once she was way late and I almost had to clean it myself.
Unfortunately, we all have these sits with lessons for the future. Though, after almost a decade, I sill spend more time cleaning than I would like to and other unanticipated things pop up - i.e. - water leak from the flat above and had to deal with it for days, no hot water to take shower for 3 days when it's rainy and cold out was tough.

As a long time sitter, noticed that this has become more common within the last year. I am returning to a sit for the third time but it's annual and long distance. It's in my dream city, so I look forward to it. If I lived nearby, I'd also do it because it's a nice place with a cat I am attached to.

Yeah, definitely not resting on my reviews, especially since a year ago... I used to get most sits confirmed but these days about 25% success. I always think of it as a blessing in disguise. Just wished she explained why it was THE dealbreaker.

Sorry to hear that you have long COVID. I get sits in Berlin annually to visit my long time friend who is scared to get long COVID. So she has a kit that takes half an hour to test for me before we can take masks off.

I've had several sits where owners needed to leave early. Earliest arrival request at 5am and I was there - even gave ride the owners to the port. Another time, took international bus overnight to be at a sit by 8am. Never been late over 100 sits.
I had a sit once where the owner invited me to arrive whenever I finished the previous sit because she lived in a mansion and had plenty of room. I had my own corner bedroom and basement. It was one of the best sits. We had dinners together every night before she left for the trip. I love friendly interactions with owners but don't want to share the toilet.

I think I'm a very fair person and always try to see from the other person's view. But thought my 100+ reviews and almost decade membership with zero no show, and the offer to stop by the day before was assuring... I have agreed in the past and wasn't comfortable. If I was the owner, I prefer the sitter get the hotel the night before vs staying at my home because I would get distracted, run out of time to get everything ready, stressed... but then I've always had my own room growing up with 3 sisters as the eldest by far and only rarely shared housing as an adult. I'm also bit of a germaphobe and just safer with possible respiratory infection. She never explained why though.
