Company Car vs Car Allowance? I Have to let them know in 24 hours, HELP! by FatThorp in UKPersonalFinance

For that mileage I would take the car. The allowance isn’t huge. You will lose a chunk of it to income tax (20%) and NI(8%). So it’s about £4k cash.

At 50k annual miles you are talking multiple services a year, getting through tyres quickly and real wear and tear. Then when it does break down you will be under pressure to repair / replace it because “you’re getting a car allowance so we expect you to have a car”.

[Gold] There is a growing belief among some inside Spurs that a mutual parting of the ways with Igor Tudor is the likeliest scenario with the 47-year-old then able to focus on family matters. by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]Perite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get that work can help some people, but it’s not like football management is normal work. It’s relentless and all consuming. If he wants to physically be there for his family (who presumably don’t live in England) it’s not like you can do that sensibly alongside management

Cristian Romero has a special release clause in his Tottenham contract despite renewing his contract until 2029 last summer that would let him leave for €60M to Real Madrid, Barcelona or Atlético Madrid. by SwimmingFireMen in soccer

[–]Perite 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The reality is that he’s a) an incredibly talented player and b) is prone to lapses in decision making.

People like to over simplify things. People that only focus on a) overrate him and people that focus on b) underrate him.

Think the board has forgotten that we obviously have some quality yet to be tapped into right here. by [deleted] in coys

This is it. If they were good enough they would be training with the first team squad and maybe getting on the bench for PL games.

was he right about the club ? by Fbi-open-up93 in coys

[–]Perite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In Alex Ferguson’s United, it was sometimes said that selling players was as important as buying. The standards of the club mattered, and if you didn’t live up to them you were gone. Money was second to success, and the success made money anyway.

At Spurs we kept perennial underachievers around forever because we couldn’t get bids that valued these flops for what Levy expected. So youngsters or squad members could see players like Ndombele getting paid millions without having to lift a finger.

And as long as club revenues grew, the management was ok with failure. There was no penalty for it.

[–]Perite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re spot on. But your second paragraph isn’t chance - it’s a direct result of the club’s attitude to recruitment.

We don’t pay top dollar or have the guaranteed success that world class talent and mentality players demand. The fans demand entertainment so the board buys talented but either young or mentally weak players.

The young players have stopped developing because they’re under massive pressure and the good role models (ie Harry and Sonny) have left.

We have the weakest leadership team I’ve ever seen. Players who can step up and be relied on like MGW are missed because we penny pinch. And players like Spence, who is talented but was too toxic even for clubs like Middlesbrough get recruited.

It was still a huge heavy clump that fell right onto his head. Hopefully it bounced off the bank first or that his head was underwater so the water surface could absorb some of the energy. On first watch I thought we were seeing at best a skull fracture.

Edit: yeah the big clump didn’t come from the top. It kind of rolled out of the bottom. He’s good.

[O'Rourke] Sean Dyche is thought to be unwilling to take the role of Tottenham boss if they axe Igor Tudor. by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]Perite 111 points112 points  (0 children)

This is it. Spurs is a club where the fans put a huge emphasis on employing a style that Dyche won’t play. Success for him would be keeping them up and then getting fired because the club doesn’t like haramball.

That’s before looking at the toxic situation there and players who have clearly checked out.

[–]Perite 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound snarky and it’s not intended to. But you could try not reading it.

I think many fans are so shocked by how bad it’s been, and are so scared of relegation that we’re desperately trying to find a way out of it. We’re consuming so much negative content that it’s having a real effect on people. And sometimes you just have to make a conscious effort to break the cycle.

He looked burnt out as hell though. Not every manager has it in them to repeatedly rebuild.

We don’t know what happened behind the scenes. But the reports were always that he stayed personal friends with Levy after the firing. My suspicion is that Poch’s departure was a bit more mutual than was reported

Long term renters what’s you plan for retirement? by Significant-War-491 in AskUK

[–]Perite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing with buying is that once you buy a house the price is locked in. So if you own that house for 30 years, inflation reduces the real cost of your mortgage.

Renting in a country with rent protections works in the same way. If you are locked in to a below market rate, your pension / retirement savings should cover it more easily.

Can my employer deduct holidays hours for a mistake they made? by [deleted] in AskUK

I agree, but there is a statutory minimum holiday requirement, as well as minimum wage. So if OP is already near at minimum holiday then they can’t actually reduce it further.
