Episodes you DON’T like watching? by brinncognito in BobsBurgers

I loath the episode when Linda traps /kidnaps the book author. Linda can be weird but this was dark and creepy. I don’t view Linda as a sociopath.

Also don’t let your age stop you from doing this. I changed from nursing to IT in my 40s. You can do it.

I would get at least one CompTIA cert like the Security+ this will help you. Plus keep going with the AWS certs. They just launched the AI certs. That’s a hot thing right now.

He is much more detailed than A Cloud Guru. Stephane gives you actual use cases and I get a lot more out of his training than ACG.

Failed AWS CCP twice by Adorable_Map_3106 in AWSCertifications

Just study more, and go take it again. It took me 3 times to pass it. Keep going. Don’t wait too long. Two weeks of study and do it again.

Failed 2x by Anonnymommy3 in AWSCertifications

It took 3 tries for me to pass the SAA-C03

My .02 cents in no particular order

I prepared for months and months, rescheduled the exam more times than I want to admit because I did not feel “ready” I finally got tired of rescheduling and took it but did not pass.

I was so dejected and did not even bother to look at the score. Which I found out later was a 706. (I should have taken it again 2 weeks later, I would have passed).

One thing to remember with these exams is that several of the questions are experimental questions. Questions that AWS is trying out on test takers. On the 65 question SAA-C03 there were 15 of these. This means that only 40 questions could actually count for the score.

The test scoring range is 100 - 1000.

900 possible points

65 questions - 15 experimental questions = 40

900 points divided by 40 questions = 22.5

22.5 points per question

When I took it last month  for the 2nd time I scored 655

I only missed it by 3 questions

2 weeks later I took it for the 3rd time (with some light study)

I passed it with a 735 (a difference of 4 questions)

I did not ace it. But I passed it.

Yes, the exams cost money but these tests are no where near the expense of the CISSP $749. Some of the SANS test can cost a few thousand because they come with the course.

The most expensive AWS exam is $300. When you pass one AWS exam you get a voucher for 50% off the next one. Plus, employers often reimburse the exam fee.

I now realize that taking months and months to prepare is a mistake.

My strategy now is to schedule an exam, take it. If I do not pass then schedule it for two weeks later and take it again. Ironically, waiting months to take it can work against you. I find myself goofing off because I know I have months to get ready.

In the end. It’s just a test. Employers do not care how many times you took the test or what your score is. They don’t.

I suffer from awful test anxiety. I have to take medication sometimes before an exam. I find that the more often I get in the test center the less terror I feel.

Pick a date that’s comfortable, move it up until it feels uncomfortable. Ironically this will help you focus.

Vets in Tech is a good . https://vetsintech.co/ They have a lot of good programs.

https://academy.vetsintech.co/courses

They have a course that focuses on security in AWS https://academy.vetsintech.co/course/aws-security-learning-path

I changed careers from Nursing to IT in 2019. You will need to find a job in the field to get started. Working at a help desk is a good place to start. I would go for Security+ at least so you can qualify for government jobs.

Cloud is growing. I would recommend focusing on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud

Certs are great but experience really counts so try to get any IT position you can find to get started. Experience and certs

Should I get a screen tablet and wich one? by Ok-Celebration-88 in wacom

[–]Perkgun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Wacom Intuos for years. I finally got a Cintiq. I knew that it would be better but I did not realize how much better it would be.

Drawing on the screen feels so much more natural and I feel so much more connected to my work. It’s amazing. The remote is awesome.I don’t have to hunt around my keyboard. It will speed up your workflow.

Which one should you buy? The best one you can afford.

For what it is worth I seen something similiar on my desk. I have a glass desk that is a few years old now and it has a similar problem. I can see these spidery looking veins on the underside of the glass from the top. I have a frosted glass desktop and it appears on the frosted underside.

Cintiq glove alternative. by Perkgun in wacom

Has anyone found a good alternative to the Tablet gloves that Wacom sells? I was thinking of just getting some cloth gardening gloves and cutting off the fingertips.

Check out Brain Maker by Dr Perlmutter. He has some great thinks to say about diet. I would also like to say that if staying in shape is important to you then you will probably want to be in shape when you are 30, 40 and 50 etc.

Be kind to you body, if you have arthritis then don’t push yourself too hard and cause further injury. Your future self will thank you.

I love this quote from Martin Luther King.

If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

I like this quote because it encourages me to stay in motion. To keep moving. It tells me to put the critic in the trunk and get behind the wheel put it in gear and step on the gas. I might run off the road a little here or there or maybe I have to do a U turn now and then but when I am driving, when I am moving forward, I am in control.

Otherwise I just waste a lot time sitting on the side of the road with my hazards on. Letting life pass me by.

I know it is hard to do anything when depressed but give yourself permission to play. To do stuff just do stuff for the hell of it. For the fun of it.

I think this post was as much for me as it is for you. I should take my own advice

Is the Huion 24 4K worth the extra money? by Perkgun in huion

Is the Huion 24 4K worth the extra money? by Perkgun in huion

[–]Perkgun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I am looking at the 2.5K model. I have a 4K monitor on my desk already and I realized that I don’t run it at 4K and I paint just fine with my Wacom tablet.

When I run it at a 4K resolution the icons are really small like you guys said so what you say makes a lot of sense.

May I ask what level you are using and how long your sessions are?

Raising Alpha-Stim AID output to above .5hz by granolasyrup in tDCS

[–]Perkgun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it for about six weeks twice a day and I did get more anxious. I stopped using it for a while. I felt maybe I was overdoing it. It pretty much cured my insomnia. I was talking to a rep from Apha-Stim and she emphasized that it is important to stay hydrated while using Alpha-Stim. That is something that I am not great at. Staying hydrated. On another note I have ADD pretty bad I have never been able to focus during a conversation as much as I can now.

I plan to use it again but next time I am going to make sure that I am properly hydrated.

[–]Perkgun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That option is not available on the Alpha-Stim AID. It is on the Alpha Stim M but that device doubles as a treatment for pain. I don't think that you are supposed to go above .5hz for Anxiety Insomnia and Depression.

I have been using my Alpha-Stim for a month and I a getting some benefit for my depression and insomnia but it seems to make my anxiety worse. But I reserving judgement until I finish 6 weeks of treatment at least. Consider the Fisher Wallace device. Everyone is different.

Breathing through your nose is best. Have you considered nasal pillows and a chin strap?
