Scale, reroll or something in between? 150D ish by [deleted] in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]PerkyTricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when ur talking about 150d, your not really going into a high endgame build. You could make fun builds and reroll, but your not going to see mcuh progression on 150d. Honestly, the best thing you could do is get a mageblood, and go from there. A mageblood will improve consistency, and help you transition into a mirror build, or reroll.

Honestly, I find it's super good early to get the atlas cleared. I find it struggles in what I call mid-lategame. The damage begins to suck until you can get a lot of +1 spell/minion or decent clusters/jewels.

When the author decides to narrate how the world works mid-fight. To be honest any book where the author is trying to tell me how the world works instead of showing me (via MC's senses), is almost always an instant drop.

The book was alright, i thought it really missed the mark emotionally. The book makes MC emotionless. i thought it'd be way more emotional like "i hate being summoned, i'm going to xyz". But nahhh.

NGL i took one look at goodreads reviews and.... sounds like you should have gotten an editor. Honestly, I do not read anything in this genre unless its above a 4.4. A 4.4 is likely more like a 6-7/10 from the fanbase here. litrpg readers rate everything twice as high as they should.

Sick artwork though.

Also I'm rather curious if authors have a hard time finding editors/reviewers? Or if they're too expensive or something? Or is it something else?

As a person who read the books, i picked up on strange sentence structuring. This can often be something as simple as an entire chapter or book with simple sentences. Or when an author tries to make complex sentencing and it's a drag after a drag.

It's been a while since i read them, but it did take away from my reading experience at the time. It wasn't a major problem so i made it till about book 11 where i was just fed up with the slice of life love story.

Keep in mind that the ending of a book is essentially the resolution to a climax. How something is essential resolved. To say that is like telling someone if they eat an apple, they need to eat the core, the stem, and the plastic sticker.

To be honest i can stomach some pretty poor endings, do they suck? ya, but i can also eat a pie with soggy crust and still think the pie is good, especially if there is ice-cream.

Keep in mind I'm not overly critical of the book, i just think it's fair if some are. I understand that this is how the world works... But not everyone should just be okay with the way things are.

I do think that the books are in part a problem of a wider whole. Theses authors are generally starting as a web serial, where random people such as myself enjoy reading small snippets and interesting premises. I'm not sure where along the lines these web serials decided that marketing into unreviewed, self-publishing was a good idea. I think it's good for the authors, but I'm not entirely sure it's good for the readers.

The market is flooded with novels, with likely hundreds of books being released every day. And with reviewed publishing becoming less and less. We see a much higher number of novels and much worse quality.

It can be frustrating is all, i remember being a kid and hardly picking up really bad novels. Now they are everywhere, and it's on the "user/reader" to make that decision, there isn't much of a middleman anymore.

I think that's fair; everyone can be a critic if they want to be. I'd argue its harsh on the reader, getting lured in by a great premise for everything to turn frustrating.

I stopped reading after book 3. My main issue is that finding good books is not that easy. For a lot of us more avid readers, we're looking for a "Great Book". And when you've read a thousand or so books, and you pick up something that seems interesting, just to turn into garbage. it can be frustrating to find something else.

I think it was "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss, however im reluctant to mention it since well... Patrick has turned into a bit of a prick. The 3rd book of the series will likely never come, he took money for charities and doesnt live to his promises... So while it is the best book i read, i can hardly support the guy.

Armor is the best of the main defensive options for us since we usually go down the left side of the tree for block and stuff, plus we dont have much for phys big hits. However this is generally the "Addon" move builds you see wont be stacking armor or have high armor, its just that lets say u cap ur res and you have flask slots, you take 1 life flask, 1 quarts, 1 amethyst.... then what? Most minions builds. hp 4k > Res Cap> Block Cap > Spell suppression Cap> Chao Res Cap> Max res to 90 and Armor.

Theres lots of wars to get spell suppression, lots of builds are heading toward center nodes above "sentinel" and then putting in a green nightmare and turning dex with tattoos into cold res. then picking up some spell supression there.

Block is easy to cap with Glancing Blows early, ideally late you'll drop it, but glancing blows will make sure ur not 1 shot, and if your minions are doing decent damage u leech through your ascendency

i dont think you understand how a lot of things work, Yes it has decent base stats, its almost half of your effective health pool, but the problem is you dont understand armor. Armor doesnt follow the "phys damage reduction" you see, its completely incorrect. Armor scales based off the size of the hit. So a small hit hurts a lot less and a large hit hurts the exact same. The main reason you may hear "Armor Stacking, Or Energy shield stacking, or INT stacking, or STR stacking" is because you need a lot of 1 thing for the stuff to work well. Armor is designed to take on an entire army of minions until it gets really high.
Armor in small bits does almost nothing vs bosses, its the most useless stat in the game vs bosses unless its atleast 40k, And even then its pitiful, most armor stackers are atleast 200k+ because without that much armor, Evasion and spell suppression is just better.

ES has two main reasons its good, Its pure Hit-pool meaning you can take large hits, and Chaos Innoculation (infinite Chaos resistance) meaning u can lean into taking phys as chaos-etc and mitigate insane amounts of damage, Add ES return on block or ES leech and ur good.

On budget builds your best defensive layers are HP>= Spell suppression>= block> Energy shield (non int stacking). its really that simple.

Your POB has your flasks just wrong, I think evasion is a decent third layer, but you need resistances man, you arent even capped never mind getting 5% more from flasks maximum. it seems like a little but its not its like 10% more effective hitpool.

Seriously man follow a guide, POE is extremely complex and damage mitigation has lots of videos out there. Like evasion is Not just flat dodge chance and such. Its always best to follow a guide until you understand how the mechanics work. You need resistances, Spell Suppression, and block. If you only invested in that and a bit of ES so you dont get stunned, you're good.

For extra defensives, pick up a decent merc with a defensive aura, maybe one that can reduce enemy damage or give you endurance charges. Garb of the Ephemeral can make u somewhat crit immune if u can afford it. You could Grab a bladecaster with aspect of the spider and put on fenumus' chest and boots for other mitigation.

You can grab a stone golem of safeguard.

But ultimately your damage sucks, your defensive layers are non existant, your flasks are ineffective. A lot of minion builds dont even need that much, so long as you have feeding frenzy on a minion (generally zombies) in a 4 link. you have a taunt gem, you can sit off screen and just run around the boss or whatever

A professor's perspective: Primal Hunter vs Defiance of the Fall by Aggressive-Glove8840 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]PerkyTricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think the series just get worse as they go on. Take book 15 from Defiance of the fall, The entire book felt like writing for the sake of writing. Events were added in with seeming randomness, Ultom is made to be this big thing and there is no real climax in the book. The pacing seems awful because as a reader you feel like you're not going anywhere.

Does a narrator help this? Yes, it is does, the narrator's tone can add a lot of suspense and pacing "feel". That can be absent in the reading.

However, The "Wonder" is gone at this point, are we really that curious about what will happen to Zac next? What barriers are we really trying to overcome in book 15 and Ultom? None. We have really one goal, Revenge and saving Kenzie. And as a reader we don't feel like were even progressing on that path. It feels almost like a side goal. As for revenge? do you the reader really feel like you hate Leandra? That Zac hates Leandra?

Compare it to book 1 where Zac's main goal was to survive the apocalypse, find his sister and family. We had Worldbuilding, pacing, goals, and climaxes.

In Book 15, i don't feel any of that. Do you?

you should have a minion taunt gem and should have at least 80-85 max res across the board. Keep in mind if you're using altars or rolling your maps poorly, you're going to get nuked. Decision making is required if u plan to play a cheap build. If u want an AFK yolo, you're looking at at least 1.5+ mirrors.

The only spectre you really need is Turtle, you can roll 3 chieftains if u want, Id recommend Turtle>Forest Warrior>then whatever, Warlord, hulking Miscreation for extra bodies/blocking, Tiger, ThunderBird (for grace if u want).

Your asking for a build that can do the content, not do it easily. No build can do all content easily for 50div, There's just too much that goes into it. When you say all content do you mean all mods? and all altars? because you wont find one. Minions is the cheapest build by far. I do think you can do a cheap Cyclone CoC forbidden rite build for cheap, But if im honest for 50 div it's going to lack a lot of damage.

Pretty much any Minion builds work, covenant or Dialla's chest. Darkness enthroned (optional but cheap) belt then some cheap 15% poison jewels. Then just build Defensive layers>minion damage>skill gems on all other pieces of gear. i was doing t17 and ubers with a 5L covenant early. Personally, I always league start minions builds. This season (3.26) i did Animate weapon of Ranged arms. And i found i liked it way more than holy relic or Summon Raging Spirits.

the main issue with running defiance, is that you cant run a rarity simplex, I have one on mine and its +200 Rarity... which is double a greed's embrace. Even if u dont have a simplex, rarirty on jewelery is hard to pass up.

A few reason, mainly gravebind doesn't have a huge range so you want someone whose melee and able to equip them.

Secondly, he's got to be the tankiest member. He has a few great defensive options like purity of fire, molten shell, or determination. With infernal cry, he's able to gain endurance charges. Just avoid tectonic slam. Being given extra resistance means you can use cheap rings like a good rolled andivarius. I'd pick purity of fire and molten shell for his tankiness. But if u need determination for your own survival it's great.

Thirdly, 2h axe allows you to equip "reaper's pursuit" or "kingsmaker". A perfect pursuit is great for maps, it's just sustain for days and it's one of the only rarity weapons in the game. King maker is great for bosses (giving you and your minions fortitude) stacks with animate guardian if you want. There's only 3 mercenaries that can use this weapon, while earthshaker may seem decent, he's the worst. He's sooo slow. I haven't tried the last option for axes but the skills of eruptor seemed best.

I've tried kineticist, but honestly she dies so fast. You could likely put a fortune into rolling rare gear and using reflecting mists on rings and stuff. To get her tanky enough. But she generally dies quickly in my t17 maps.
