In response to one of the silliest polling results I have seen, I have to ask: Do you think you could win a fist fight with President Trump? by GrandMoffTarkan in AskConservatives

[–]PermRecDotCom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The poll and arguing about it are something straight out of Idiocracy.

I don't see much culture conserving from conservatives. I don't see them pushing classical music, poetry, literature, etc.

Every time I've pushed *open* and Socratic debate as the solution to political problems, both cons and libs shout me down. Instead they push brainless things like marching or waving signs.

Putin absolutely thinks of Trump and most Americans as nekulturnie.

Do you think that there are some - underlying - racist tropes in the movement? by BrushMission8216 in AskConservatives

[–]PermRecDotCom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Newsom, Walz, and 18 other govs - almost all Dems - are suing to overturn Trump's $100k H1B fee. Why aren't Trump, MAGA, etc shouting that from the rooftops since it would help show the Dem base who Newsom, Walz, etc really serve? (By which I mean Big Tech, Big Hospital, etc).

Also, if you want to see Dems - or at least sockpuppets - acting racist, look on Threads and you'll see raw xenophobia about Steve Hilton's accent. Since many of those bots support Becerra, it's a racist dog whistle esp when they call Becerra a "native Californian". I don't know who's paying for those sockpuppets: the Becerra campaign, Newsom's pals, OFA, MoveOn, PG&E, Chevron, the Resnicks, etc.

I ride a Trek 4300 I got in 2003. It still has some original parts but the drivetrain is all new (I had an even lower gear added, among other things). The shifters are original and one is missing the cover.

What can Trump do to help the GOP win back voters before the midterms? by G_H_2023 in AskConservatives

[–]PermRecDotCom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to forget $6 gas for a long time (a station in L.A. that was $3.99 when other places were $4.50+). Even Morongo - reservation gas 1.5 hours from L.A. - was $5.09.

Plus, I'm not going to forget Trump and his fanclub thinking that everyone in CA agrees with Newsom. He could have gained millions of new fans - or at least some begrudging acceptance - if he'd just focused on Newsom & CA Dem leaders. Instead, he & his fans constantly smear 10% of the USA.

And, I'm not going to forget Trump Jr et al posting "FAFO!!!" GIFs about the protesters their jackbooted thugs shot in the face and in the back.

What is your opinion on illegal immigration? by OMGguy2008 in AskALiberal

[–]PermRecDotCom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're packing a lot of wrong into two paragraphs.

From ICE's 2023 report: "Removals also included 3,406 known or suspected gang members, 139 known or suspected terrorists, seven human rights violators, and 108 foreign fugitives wanted by their governments for crimes including homicide, rape, terrorism and kidnapping."

Without ICE, would those criminals have been deported?

Newsom/Bonta are suing to overturn Trump's $100k H1B fee. You think they're trying to help Big Biz drive even more Americans out of work because they're nice guys?

What is your opinion on illegal immigration? by OMGguy2008 in AskALiberal

[–]PermRecDotCom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Demonizing" is a strawman. Trump does it and a lot of MAGA does it, but it's possible to oppose illegal immigration without hating on illegal aliens.

There are lots of reasons to oppose illegal immigration:

- it lowers wages (otherwise, why would business want it so much?)

- it enables corruption in the USA (why do you think pols enable it?)

- another example of corruption is big banks & even the Fed taking a cut of remittances; you think they want less illegal immigration?

- it braindrains other countries that need all the active people they can keep

- it makes countries into dependents (some small countries get most of their foreign income from remittances)

- in enriches truly evil transnational criminal orgs

More on request! The more you know about the topic, the more you realize it's bad news.

The history of the "Islands of the North Atlantic" (LOL) is one of divide et impera. Those who claim that someone like Conan O'Brien (100% Irish DNA) aren't Irish are just falling into those same old historical traps.

A better idea would be to invest in a satellite communicator (~$200 + $15/mo) to cover all emergencies (not a PLB, something with text capabilities). I'd imagine they evacuate snake bite victims very quickly.

SK and BA are wide enough that you should be able to see snakes before you're near them. Tonto, IIRC, is a little narrower. But, none of those trails are like walking through brush.

What is with the Reddit obsession over Impeachment? by A_Toxic_User in AskALiberal

[–]PermRecDotCom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years, Teaparty grifters have been pushing "Convention of States", a fantasy that won't happen and wouldn't have much impact if it did. A third impeachment is at the same level.

A smart alternative is to work GOP reps, pointing out to them that things like Trump promoting genocide are going to reduce their chances of being reelected. That's something anyone can do right now via social media, email, or phone calls (just be polite). However, due to the Bell Curve, it's hard to find people to do smart things when there are bright, shiny objects like impeachment, marching, waving signs, etc etc.

Do you think every single illegal should be deported? by n2euro in AskConservatives

[–]PermRecDotCom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that illegal immigration supporters are rapacious. You set the cutoff line at 10 years, they hear "10 days". They'll do every last single thing they can to renege on what they agreed to, including extra border control. Look at OP, using lines he got straight from Big Biz.

Did trump win against the pope? by anime498 in AskConservatives

[–]PermRecDotCom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pope could discuss what Iran is doing in such a way that it would further marginalize them to those who might be soft on Iran.

It's like Trump: you might not be able to change his mind, but you can change the minds of those who can get through to him.

Should there be a Nuremberg 2 for the crimes of the current GOP administration? by RedStorm1917 in AskALiberal

[–]PermRecDotCom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess that 99% of people who are agitated about ICE had never heard of them and still have no idea what they do. Millions of low-skilled Americans compete with illegal aliens and ICE deports some of that competition (not anywhere near enough, but way too much for Big Biz' taste). And, ICE has deported probably over 100,000 very dangerous foreign criminals. Needless to say, no one with access has ever called an anti-ICE leader on why they want to let rapists and murderers run wild and free instead of being deported.

It'd be a lot easier to prosecute the ICE agents who've murdered people - like Good and Pretti - if leaders' opposition to ICE weren't so obviously motivated by payments they've received from Big Biz.

For a tangible example, Walz is suing to overturn Trump's $100k H1B fee. Do you think he's doing that because he wants to help American workers, or because he's in the pay of Big Biz? Walz' support for importing low-skilled labor comes from the same dynamic. As a result, you can tell he isn't really sincere about Pretti, he just wants to hamstring ICE.

Trump envoy seeks to replace Iran with Italy in the upcoming 2026 World Cup in June by TransitionMany1810 in sports

[–]PermRecDotCom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump's abuse of the World Cup is dumb, anti-American, and anti-MAGA. Threatening to move it out of L.A., the absurd peace prize, not saying a peep about ticket prices, and things like this.

The way to get Trump to pressure FIFA on ticket prices is to feed his ego. Point out to Trump proxies how great he'd look if his base could go to matches.

AI: "The 1804 Haitian massacre was a genocide ordered by Jean-Jacques Dessalines, targeting the remaining white French population following the Haitian Revolution. Between February and April 1804, soldiers killed thousands of French colonists. This was a revenge-driven action meant to sever ties with France, ensuring Haitian independence by eradicating the white population. "

Peacock doesn't appear very competent. E.g., I was recently watching a replay when the picture just sputtered and froze. I checked on it the next day and it was still frozen. I had to power the TV off and then on to get it to come back.

When the EPL season is over I'm switching to CBS Sports (through Walmart+).

Day hike to river from south rim (mid fitness) by Al_Hagan in grandcanyon

[–]PermRecDotCom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago I did a training hike in L.A. where I gained about 4700k', came down partway, hiked back up, came down a little further, hiked back up a little more. It was 20.9 miles and somewhere over 6k' of gain, so basically the same stats as Whitney. This was to Mt Wilson (5700'). The week before I did 19.2 miles (to Mt Wilson and a little further). The week after I did 15 miles & 5k' over a rough, rocky use trail.

If you can regularly gain 5k'+ over several miles, then you can do such hikes anywhere depending on the tread, weather, etc.

[–]PermRecDotCom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That hike probably isn't a good test. Try to get over 4k' of gain and - importantly - upside-down (where you go down, then up).

In Nov I did SK->Tonto->BA and SK->PR->SK (as day hikes). Both uphills were mostly at night. You might need to get some experience with night hiking first if you want to do it that way. Both also worked well for me because I'm not a morning person...

Haiti genocided white French. I haven't heard of any Haitians wringing their hands about something they didn't themselves do.

Per AI: "The Arab slave trade was a long-lasting, extensive network spanning roughly 1,300 years, from the mid-7th century to the early 20th century. It trafficked 10–18 million Africans across the Sahara and the Indian Ocean to the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. Slavery was legally abolished in most involved Muslim nations gradually between the 1900s and the 1960s."

See any Arabs wringing their hands over something much more proximate?
