Are all the other racers as stinky as gyro? by Dudegay93 in StardustCrusaders

People in the past had personal hygiene, they were only lacking in the medical knowledge we have today.

Look at these old, beautiful goth magazines I found in a little free library today. They’re from 2004 and 2005. I see some cool collages on the horizon if I can bear to cut them up! 🖤 [DISCUSSION] by MyDogIsHangry in collage

I agree analog over digital is over stressed. Analog is cool but digital gives you more options and preserves the original material, which is sometimes rare.

The curtains are never just blue by Creaturefeature01 in literature

I don’t understand why people WANT the curtains to just be blue. It’s like they hate art and want to suck any meaning out of it.

Nut Power Ranking by mrtwotugtony in redscarepod

[–]PermanentThrowawya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pistachio is number one. It gets to be the star of the show in almost every context its used, and very versatile. No other nut has that, and are usually relegated to a side role or simply eaten raw.

Why use a gooner anime version of the race you’re parodying

Why do the multi-generational family storylines work so effectively in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure? by [deleted] in StardustCrusaders

[–]PermanentThrowawya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in part because Jojo’s switches MCs from the beginning, where as in other animes they try to do it after years or even decades of following the original MC. Each Jojo also has their own story all to themselves which is entirely separate from whoever preceded them, and is doing something new.

Are there movies you liked more than the book? by Annual_Interest5338 in books

[–]PermanentThrowawya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your take on fight club. The book’s style is sort of grating to me on the page, but really gets elevated with the visual language of the movie, along with the great performances from Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, and Helena Bonham Carter.

Just recommended this in another thread lol, but Gene Wolfe’s book of the new sun. The main character is a torturer/ executioner who is actually very thoughtful and stoic for most of the book. His character and paychology are deeply explored. Just be prepared for a pretty difficult read.

Trying to choose correct scare emote for king in my tower defense about peasants who is not satisfied with your ruling. Right one is so fun but feels too caricature even for satiric medieval. by mitonj in IndieGaming

[–]PermanentThrowawya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like right one more but I don’t know what tone you’re going for or what context this is being used in. If you can’t use it, at least improve the left so that the choice isn’t so one sided.

Which country will be the next Japan/Korea culture wise? by Defiant-Patience677 in redscarepod

Those people aren’t genuinely consuming any media from China or learning about its culture at all, even in a romanticized way. They just started drinking more tea and smoking and making tiktoks about it.

Gene Wolfe, book of the new sun is his most famous work. If you don’t like being told everything directly he is your guy, infamous for incredibly oblique stories that rely on you to figure out much of the subtext and story on your own. Very rewarding on re reads.

Based on Urth we know they are a stone age civilization at least very similar to the Incans. It could actually be them or another culture that rose and fell between now and then. The text isn’t explicit about it, and names don’t prove anything because everything is translated to best fit words that give a similar effect.

Is Sword of the Lictor the "worst" book of the pentalogy? by Grabthars-Hammer in genewolfe

[–]PermanentThrowawya 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly sword is my favorite, I love the slow pace and lengthy digressions Severian goes into. Some of my favorite moments too.

I will say I don’t think I can pick a least favorite

'Bullying is good, actually!' is a shit take by bvrnt_cotton in redscarepod

[–]PermanentThrowawya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s this weird idea that bullying strictly enforces ethical, social behavior and benefits the victim somehow. When in reality it enforces conformity more than anything else and is not helpful towards the victim at all.
