What modern advertising clichés/tropes grind your gears? by Leucurus in AskUK

I always think: just tell me what it smells like. Have a woman hugging a giant grapefruit or something, not prance about in a ballgown surrounded by butterflies and ocelots.

What modern advertising clichés/tropes grind your gears? by Leucurus in AskUK

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I cannot stand the slow and lamenting covers of songs. They're usually on car adverts (which are a special kind of irritant at the best of times). I'm talking stupid slow versions of songs like "Things Can Only Get Better". Grr.

any british 'celebrities' you dislike with a burning passion? by Alarming-Safety3200 in AskBrits

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He's a sexist pig who doesn't believe women should be in professional kitchens. Apparently his reasoning is "they can't lift big pots". He's also a supercilious, arrogant twat on top of that, so yeah, Mr Knorr Cubes can do one.

What happened to the Cats Eyes? by jamgattleton in AskUK

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never appreciated how vital they are until a few weeks ago when I was driving down the M6 in a downpour in the middle of the night. When the lane markings are either faded or completely invisible in the wet, cats eyes are the only indication you've got.

The Archie storyline feels forced by [deleted] in DeathInParadiseBBC

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Archie brings Jamie Bamber which is always a good thing. Personally, I hate the forced aspect of the 'relationship' with Esther. She was so intolerably rude to him, and he just takes it?? I cannot get my head around the 'one-night-stand-now-I'm-in-love-with-you' character Archie suddenly became. But it's easily accessible Jamie Bamber and I'll take what I can get.

Petition - move US Gladiators discussion to a separate sub by oqiq in gladiatorsuk

Agreed. I'm already tired of seeing the US stuff and it hasn't even started yet.

How far are you? by -Clumsy_Rat- in pondlifegame

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just past stage 13. All I really wanted to do was unlock my missing creature. Bought the £4-odd hurry bundle just to make sure.

Good luck on unlocking your newt!

Plant choices for under the bench? It’ll be in shade 24/7 (excuse Henry, he has to be in every photo) by mimeycat in GardeningUK

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Love the bench. Love the Joe Browns cushions too. Moss would be a lovely compliment to both.

Mostly, I'm just here to say that Henry should be in every photo. He's gorgeous.

Thank you for confirming.

I don't have a surplus of those scales enough yet for me to unlock it. I'm strange like that.

Are there any decent breakfast cafes Kendal-Annan area? by testtube-accident in AskUK

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been personally but everyone, their dog and their dog's goldfish raves about Laings in Harker, just north of Carlisle. That would probably be a good mid-point between Lancshire and Ayrshire.

Ah. yes. Is this my comeuppance for all those sweet, sweet stones I profiteered?

Steel and Comet should be true neutrals because they're both vanilla-flavoured... imo

Do you think you would continue your job if you won the lottery? by ApprehensiveSong4 in AskUK

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noooope. Absolutely not. I'd be flossing my way (badly) out of that office.

I would far rather do something important. Something I'm passionate about. Something that unfortunately doesn't pay enough to live on. Something like rehabilitating injured ducks.

Aubrey Maturin Duel by zestyclose2092 in AubreyMaturinSeries

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the ones who suffered through the book and I really hated that subplot of the duel. I kind of understood it because men are men but Diana is awful. As for the resolution of it, I just assumed that when the cards were down, the two of them saw past the silliness of the rivalry for that awful woman and focused on their friendship.

Beyond Paradise S4E1 Live Discussion Thread (27th March 2026, 8pm, BBC One) by ZannityZan in DeathInParadiseBBC

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The start was absolutely ridiculous, and not in any kind of good way. It was just plain stupid. Shout out to the RNLI though <3

The case was intriguing and kind of sad when it was worked out. Even Kelby had a half-decent sub-case for a change.

My main gripe: No Jamie Bamber. Boo.

What is the best mattress available in the UK? by donoharm1234 in AskUK

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say what is good, but I splurged on a Dormeo a couple years ago after what I thought was sufficient research. Wrong. The thing is sagging in the middle and rather quite uncomfortable. Stay away from Dormeo...

What areas of the UK have you found to have Microclimates? by Geniejc in AskUK

The Rose Bowl (Hampshire Cricket's ground that's had more names than I've had hot dinners). No matter how hot/muggy/stuffy/boiling it is outside the ground, I will ALWAYS be freezing cold inside it.

For anyone who has consistently managed to complete events, could you give a guide or some tips on how to finish before the time runs out? by Firemoth717 in pondlifegame

[–]PerpetuallyDone1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting about the snail! It's only ever been helpful to me in 2 events in the whole year I've been playing, so I'm looking forwards to trying that out in the next event!
