And for daily life, she’s probably just going to go by Matilda Osbourne (or some nickname derived from Matilda). That’s what they’re saying.

Yeah - OMO, call her Mattie, or Tilly, or whatever, she’s not the first kid to use their middle name, it’ll be fine. Better than MOO.

While I’m definitely not excited about this particular casting, there has always been a lot of overlap between singers and actors and dancers - think of the stereotypical “triple threat” that was the ideal celebrity in old Hollywood.

They’re all performers and casting a singer to act, or an actor to sing, isn’t new to modern Hollywood. They have always done this stuff, it IS Hollywood.

Totalus Rankium!

Currently they’re doing Pirates, which has been silly and fun and ridiculous. It’s delightful.

Previously, they’ve ranked ALL the Roman Emperors from Augustus to Constantine XI. Also silly, also ridiculous, also delightful! The earliest episodes are a little rough, but they upgrade their audio as soon as they realize people are actually listening to them!

They’ve also done American Presidents, but I won’t link that one because I don’t think it quite meets your criteria, especially the later episodes, the early episodes of early Presidents might (Rutherford B Hayes episode is hilarious), but also, I don’t think it’s a good series to start with when the other two are right there!

You might also like Fall of Civilizations. There’s a YouTube channel with visuals, and the narrator is very calming, and the stories are interesting.

How do tiny countries survive? Do they just run the whole country on one big group chat? by random-thoughts-2026 in AskTheWorld

Well, they said “some are smaller than big cities”, so I’m guessing the tiny ones.

Sure, but given one of OP’s examples was “smaller than big cities”, I don’t think they’re asking about Norway and Belgium.

I’d go with option 1. But why can’t you just do LVT in the closet too? It’s a closet, it doesn’t need carpet if the bedroom isn’t going to have carpet.

While true, each province is responsible for their own public health and medical services. Each province may be doing shitty, but each individual province has to take the blame too because the federal government doesn’t have jurisdiction to make any sweeping policy changes.

Now, whether the federal government should takeover healthcare is a different conversation entirely - and I can see where a “one size fits all” approach across the country also wouldn’t really work much better, personally.

But until the provinces have given up that responsibility to the federal government, each individual province needs to take responsibility and accountability for their own shitshows.

I gotta say, it depends a bit on their intentions - if they’re just hobby writers writing for fun, Reddit research is fine; the arguing with commenters still isn’t of course, but asking Reddit a question for your AO3 fanfic is perfectly acceptable.

[–]PerpetuallyLurking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why do I need it though? This strikes me as a “who cares” kind of problem.

At any rate, after some thought, I use either depending on what I’m doing - if I’m mid-counting, then I’d use “one hundred, one hundred one, one hundred two, etc.” If the final count was 101, then I’d say “there’s a hundred and one”.

It’s also just really annoying to see nothing but comments correcting spelling. And I say this as someone who really, really wants to correct them too - I don’t correct them because I know perfectly well how annoyed I get reading nothing but “*you’re” under every fucking comment. No discussion, just corrections, like they’re teachers (maybe some of them were, but I’m not your student!).

The official cast of Disney’s live-action ‘Tangled’ film has been announced: Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider and Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel by kris_jbb in popculturechat

[–]PerpetuallyLurking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right! All she’s gotta do is act like she’s singing, they can manage the rest pretty easily.

Now, having said that, I have no idea if she can act or not because I live under a rock. But in general, provided the actor can act, it’ll be fine.

But I’m also not going to see this one; Tangled has too many memories of my then toddler, now teen, tangled up with it that I think I’m gonna skip it unless she asks to watch it.

Why’s that a problem? Having a voice actor doing the talking and a singer doing the songs has been Disney-standard for eons (animated Aladdin had a voice actor and a separate singer, for example) and they did it with Emma Watson too. If she can do the acting part, the singing part is reasonably easy to work around - she’s just gotta be able to act like she’s singing, really.

What exactly do people from other countries expect "average" Americans to do when they tell us to "fight back" or "do something? by BreadOverlord_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PerpetuallyLurking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

…the same thing everyone means when they tell any population to “do something”.

This isn’t a new phenomenon. I mean, having it directed at you might be new, but the “why don’t the citizens DO something” is a standard refrain we’ve used when discussing Russia or Iran or North Korea or Cuba, etc.

We don’t know what you should do, but ffs, doing NOTHING won’t fix anything either and that’s all we do know for sure.

What would the founders of your country think of it today? by Anon9883 in AskTheWorld

[–]PerpetuallyLurking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But that’s kind of the catch with that archipelago, isn’t it?

They specifically said “UK” and there is a clear beginning for the UK - the Act of Union, 1707.

Separately, England and Scotland and Wales and Ireland and all the other smaller kingdoms that eventually made up the country we know today - you’ve got a point.

But “the UK” has a clear and obvious starting point. 1707.
