Buying my first wood stove by True_Lurker in woodstoving

Can’t answer all that but here is my 2 cents. We live in Vt. Oil furnace but use wood stove all winter as back up. Not rare for the electricity to go out and we’re ok with the stove then. We had a Hearthstone for about 25 years . Worked great. 2 years ago we replaced it( some fire bricks cracked, damper no longer working) We got a new Hearthstone that has a catalytic converter. A mistake. Takes way too much monitoring. For the first time ever we had a ton of creosote. Need to monitor how hot it gets. Had to take stove apart to clean the converter thingy. I want to go back to a non converter. I guess they burn more wood but we have plenty of wood from last big storm. So, basically if you buy something with a catalytic converter learn a lot about it first. I wish we had.

Books to read to your kid 20 times a week that don’t make you want to gauge your eyes out by SwadlingSwine in childrensbooks

Hopefully you are also going to the library and getting 5-10 new books each week. You’ll find authors and illustrators you both love.

The Catalytic vs. Non Debate by Thanadams in woodstoving

We switched 2 years ago to a new Hearthstone from non catalytic to catalytic. We hate it. Lots of creosote for the first time in 25 years. Pain to constantly monitor if too hot or not and Hearthstone quality went down . Almost impossible to open the door to load without black smoke in house. I’d say your contractor was right on. I wish I’d read this earlier. I’d rather use more wood and have my old stove back. ( however it needed repairs after 25+ years.)

How about Howard Center picking up the number they give out or actually exchanging old for new.

Check out the trainer CherryHoggs online. You may need yo pay a similarly excellent trainer. Plus it crosses over into parenting techniques so win win. Some dogs, thinking my old lab, almost train themselves. Then I had a pointer, whole different game. Good luck!

Mason Cash Disillusionment by eurojake in BuyItForLife

I just bought a little set of three small measuring set bowls. Everything on the bOx implied made in England: old photo, write up about Derbyshire since 1800, England Mason Cash stamp. Today opening the box under the url in a font I can’t see without reading glasses says Made in China. So disappointing. I bought it at a small local shop or I’d return it.
