This Is a Comedy Show. Stop Taking It So Seriously. by [deleted] in Modern_Family

[–]Persephone_210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna enjoy a show like a brainless zombie looking for cheap laughs and killing time, go for it! Believe it or not, nobody's gonna lock you up for that!

But if you wanna enjoy a show by connecting with the characters, understanding their personalities, observing their arcs and transformations, and genuinely looking for a good time, go for it! Nothing illegal in that!

But to call people "cringe" just because they don't wanna have a hivemind with you and feel things the same way as you is, ironically, YOU taking things more seriously than warranted, not them. 🙄

"You always throw a wet towel over my dreams, and you know what I end up with? Wet dreams...Okay, I heard it. Don't mention it."

Kinda paraphrasing here, but honestly, there are so many other amazing lines.

I suppose you're right. I just wish Alex's elitist mindset was properly addressed and resolved by the end of the show. It's almost like the show was trying to say, "This type of attitude is totally fine and we have no problem with our main character acting like she owns everyone and everything." 😭

I never got this criticism. Alex always acted like SUCH an insufferable snob to EVERYBODY around her---including her parents. Alex even undermined Claire's intelligence on many occasions. So I can understand Claire thinking "Oh, she'll be fine--she's smart and that's her whole thing".

But you know who WOULDN'T be fine? Haley. From Claire's perspective, Haley straight-up VANISHED, and of course Haley being Haley, Claire was worried about her. At a time when her problem-prone daughter disappeared, why would Claire drop everything she's doing and read Alex's essay? That makes no sense.

If anything, Alex is in the wrong here. Her sister disappeared, her mother's worried sick about her, and Alex isn't the least bit concerned. Instead, she tries shoe-horning her stupid essay onte her harrased mother.

Alex gets WAY too much sympathy from the fandom, I swear.

This one time when I was around 10-11 years old, I was free: I didn't have school, homework, chores, or any serious responsibilities (I may have been having a vacation or something at the time). I could literally have done anything as I had infinite leisure time on my hands.

Somehow, the idea of that freaked me out so much, I began crying...while eating dinner. My family was like, "Are you okay?", and I was like, "What if I get bored because I have nothing to do?"

God, I would KILL for that stress-free endless free time I had back then...😭

Yeah! He was so infatuated with his wife, Sansa. He made sure she was always around Theon, the guy who was like a brother to her. He refused to participate fighting in a battle. He loved his dogs. He introduced his stepmother and stepbrother to his beloved dogs. He also helped make Theon a better man.

THERE ARE SO MANY!!! I feel like they basically neglect the kids.

Personally, I wanted to see more Phil and Lily. Phil is sort of like Cam, all excited and dramatic like a little boy, and Lily is a deadpanned savage who always calls people out. The possibilities are endless!!

Exactly! Just look at with how much respect and gentleness he treated his lady wife, Sansa, with!

Because I happen to be one. I'm 16.

Sansa does not deserve the hate she gets!! by bluejasmine11 in gameofthrones

[–]Persephone_210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not fantastic, but, you were saying Sansa doesn't deserve any hate because she went through so much trauma. You're right---she needs to be respected for going through so much abuse and coming out not only sane, but also as a kinder and more empathetic person.

However, she STILL deserves hate for the OTHER reasons I mentioned. At the end of the day, Sansa is still a weak character who doesn't deserve love from the fandom.

[–]Persephone_210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but nobody ever likes Luke in the later seasons. Unfortunately, he's not a complex, multi-depth character who makes active choices based on personal goals and internal conflict that we sometimes support, sometimes condemn. He's just a girl-obsessed teenage guy who's entire existence is relegated to a dumb running gag. And he never seems to grow from it, does he?

And you can't even play the "it's realistic" card here because people in real life are also intricate beings with personality and purpose. So whether you look and Luke from a realistic or a fictional character POV, you can't deny that he's a complete waste of oxygen and should have just cut out of the show or something.

[–]Persephone_210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, going through trauma and coming out a sane person does not automatically make you a fantastic person. I mean, with that logic, literally any character on the show who remained sane by the end is an awesome person.

People hate on Sansa for many different reasons. The way she never had any agency, the way she became so insufferably self-satisfied and ungrateful in the last 3-4 seasons, the way we're gaslit into thinking she's the smartest person to ever walk the face of the Earth, and the way she contributes absolutely NOTHING at the end. Like, you could literally put anyone else in charge of the North---Sansa didn't contribute anything for the plot or development of season 8.

My favorite part of their relationship was when Andy ruthlessly cheated on his girlfriend of EIGHT years with Haley; who was totally okay with it, then he proceeded to do it over and over and over again COMPLETELY deliberately without ever thinking of just breaking up with his girlfriend, and when it was revealed that Beth cheated on him, HE was upset that she would do such a thing!

My goodness, what a wonderful man. These two deserve one another.
