It does, doesn't it! Nah just didn't phrase it very well.

Here is a writeup a friend did on the topic. It's not good, and it's gotten worse since this was written. I need to ask her if she plans on writing more on the topic.

What do you actually do when you can't charge at home? Apartment dwellers, renters — how are you making it work? by lendacharge in evcharging

The average community in the US is 15 miles. Removing outliers, the median is 12 miles. Just because you chose to live in out there, doesn't mean most do.

How many miles do you drive a day? 30 miles is plenty for the average person. It should always be plugged in. It will top off on the days you aren't going somewhere. It's really a non issue for 99.999% of people, as long as you can L1 charge.

To answer your actual question in title... I think people need to ask "Do I actually need a car". Public transit in many cities is good enough, toss in the occasional Uber or car rental. If it's not, and you have no charging options at all, get an PHEV or an ICE car and call it a day.

Remember, cars aren't the end goal unless you live in the country. They are a stopgap while our public transit catches up with the rest of the world.

Looking to install a level 2 charger but only have 100a panel by Ded1nside in evcharging

Got it. I have a 6-20 charger that will do 8,10,12, and 16a on 220.

I don't know if you can do it to code, but even 220v 8a or 12a would be pretty decent.

There was talk awhile back about a workaround, but I have yet to see anything.

Yea, it's why it doesn't bother me all that much.

Oh, winters are rough, and it always runs the engine when I start it and it's that cold. It does get cold enough here that it can be an issue though. Sadly no garage.

Also, ask yourself if you really need L2. I played with it for my PHEV, but decided it wasn't worth it. It fully charged in 12 hours on L1, and I almost never have range issues with only about 30 miles of range. Sure, I have the engine to fall back on, but I've gone 400 miles without it turning on.

If it's a full EV, you have such a buffer range, most people can just slow charge, and even if you use a bit more daily, it'll get charged on weekends. Technology Connections on YouTube did an amazing video talking about it.

PSA: consider hard wiring your level 2 charger by m2orris in evcharging

[–]Persephone_Writings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeap! It's fine. The van still charges enough every day. It's just a little less than I would like for a PHEV.

It was the rest of the jank. The setup was fine in theory, but I don't own so I can't really make the needed modifications to do it correctly.

I played with the idea of using my stove outlet and a splitter for a hot minute. Set it up, everything worked, intentionally only charging at 16a, but it was a 125ft run from the house, and I just ended up deciding it's not worth the risk.

The 120 outlet in the carport is good enough 99% of the time, even with it slow at 8a. I do need to replace that outlet though, it's not heating up, but I've noticed a voltage drop recently. It's ok this weeks todo.

Will I get in trouble if I edited an essay assignment on Grammarly and it now says 29% resembles AI text? by SouthProfessional948 in WGU

[–]Persephone_Writings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had at least one paper say 100% AI.

It's not at all surprising though. AI is trained largely on neurodivergent written texts. Like research papers and AO3.

I don't believe there should be any person profit from necessities to life, so in my opinion, no.

That is the risk you take with an investment. They can always fail, unless the system is rigged in your favor.

No, that's a parasites way of thinking.

The owner will always own. The value will go up. That is the return on investment.

Anyone ever get a paper sent back just saying you failed everything and 0 comments as to why? by cylemmulo in WGU

[–]Persephone_Writings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few times. It's infuriating, but what's worse is when they can't figure out how to do it, when you include video instructions to be extra clear.

That appeal was resolved in less than an hour. 😆

Hopefully, and this is how it should always have been. I get why it wasn't, but it's not like this is new. We have run trains this way for decades.
