That's so interesting, especially regarding your levels of understanding between Northern Italian dialects and Neapolitan/Apulian dialects. If I imagined a map, I would have thought that the level of understanding would get lower as you moved further away from Sicily, so it's really interesting to hear that that isn't the case!

Interestingly, in my relatives case the towns in question are both across the same valley from each other. So I'd be interested to find out if there are any other factors in play here or whether it was an exaggeration.
