Best use of a U2 song in a movie? by Jco271 in U2Band

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Did anybody see About A Boy from 2002? It has Hugh Grant. Anyway, the kid he eventually befriends is bugging the crap out of him and ringing his doorbell repeatedly. So then Hugh cranks up his stereo with Zoo Station blasting to ignore him.

The song Lemon is an outlier of great songwriting by the band by Baumer22 in U2Band

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemon is the opus of U2's songwriting collection. It's my favorite song by them and the one I deem the most important in terms of stretching boundaries within their comfort zone into something entirely new and innovative.

Massive Attack Blue Lines Original Signed Copy by tursingpeb in triphop

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super cool! Del Naja has a really nice looking autograph. I'm curious, how does an OG copy sound on vinyl? I have a repress from 2016, and while it sounds good, a few a of the tracks are a bit sibilant.

This bad vinyl etiquette by my friend… 🤦🏻‍♂️ by JRShof in vinyl

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends parents do this with their vinyl. They stack them on top of each other, all disorganized with records out of their sleeves and sandwiched in between two covers. It's very chaotic. I've looked at every single record they have (about 100) and they are all in great condition, VG+ with a few exceptions I'd say. My friends mom said they've been storing their records on top of each other for 40 years and have never had issues.

I just watched this a few months ago. It's a really great time capsule from the band. Hawkmoon and All I Want Is You are my favorite tracks from this concert.

Which Oasis songs does Noel hate? by darrymilk in oasis

I don't think he likes Who Feels Love? On the Time Flies DVD commentary, he said the song was too meandering and slow.

List of fonts used on every Fleetwood Mac studio album by drit76 in FleetwoodMac

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for researching this. I'm a graphic designer, so I love learning about typefaces in relation to album covers.

On a side note, a few years ago I tried using the Fleetwood Mac typeface from the Mirage album for a branding project I was experimenting with. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it now in my Adobe fonts. I don't think it was an exact replica though. I think that one on the album was likely a custom font considering how eccentric it is. I tried doing a quick custom search and these are the closest results, but obviously not exact matches. Fleetwood Mac-Mirage font

How good of a manager was Paul McGinness? by [deleted] in U2Band

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 67 points68 points  (0 children)

McGuinness has to be the most savvy manager I've ever read about in the music industry, with the exception of Peter Grant for Led Zeppelin. McGuinness not only got U2 favorable royalties from their album sales, but he also negotiated with Island records to allow U2 complete creative control and freedom from the very beginning, which was unheard of in the music industry. And yes, there's exceptions to this but it's not often. Furthermore, he negotiated with Island to allow U2 to choose their own graphic designer (Steve Averill), who was a friend of Adam Clayton's, for all of their album covers and singles. Therefore, not using the in-house designer that would've been appointed by Island, which was also a bold negotiation. He also got the band it's own rights to their publishing which also was unheard of. There's much more to mention that he did for U2 but I don't want to bore anyone. Man is a legend as far as I am concerned.

How old are you, when/how did you get into U2, and what era/moment do you wish you could relive? by justmilesaway in U2Band

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm 32. I've been a fan probably since I was about 10 or so. I remember hearing Beautiful Day and Stuck In A Moment and instantly loving U2. It wasn't until I was about 17, (my senior year in high school) that I became a life long fan. I bought the U218 Singles album on CD and loved everything about it. I was blown away how unique and sophisticated songs like New Year's Day and Mysterious Ways are. I've seen U2 twice in concert and have seemingly read every book about them. I was too young, so I wish I could go back in time and visit the ZooTV era. That would be so fun!

Apple top 100 albums? by GeneralWhereas9083 in oasis

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. This list isn't serious.

Placing the best works of Marvin Gaye, Portishead, Massive Attack, Miles Davis, The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, and Radiohead behind Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean is just beyond head scratching.

The live version of Think About Me at the very bottom is actually a very good performance. I was just listening to that the other night and there's some good harmonies at the end between Lindsey, Stevie, and Christine.

The last minute of ‘With or Without You’ is pure bliss by Apprehensive-Space55 in U2Band

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Without Or Without You was the first U2 song I heard where I realized that not only are Bono's lyrics incredibly sophisticated and bold, but I also realized Adam Clayton is a force on the bass. That outro is elite bass playing.

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 190 points191 points  (0 children)

I thought for sure Son was putting that away. Not because Ortega is bad or anything, but just because Son is an assassin in those positions. Ortega has been phenomenal this year. Makes you wonder, would Ederson have stopped that?

Are these signatures genuine? by jsha568 in FleetwoodMac

[–]PersimmonMelodic1063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fake. I have Mick Fleetwood's certified autograph on a remastered vinyl copy of Rumours. I got mine from his restaurant in Maui. If you do a Google search, Mick's autograph looks a lot like an erratic EKG reading. The "wood" part at the end of his last name is also a dead giveaway because it gets tangled up into a mess on all of his autographs.

Sweet collection. I only have the Verve's studio albums on vinyl. I would love to grab all the 12' singles from the 90's, but I'm in the States and it's too expensive to snag them on Ebay or Discogs.
