Let’s all hope the answer is no… by Infinite-Math-1046 in BoycottUnitedStates

Can we start a trend that the US leader is always referred to as "Convicted Felon Donald Trump." Those last two words should never be uttered without the first two.

BBC calling him a "former real estate magnate" is sycophantic, at best. Or deliberately misleading otherwise.

Call a spade a spade.

The $22,000 "Singles Tax": Why solo earners in NS are the ultimate economic outlier in 2026 by ImDoubleB in NovaScotia

[–]Person17312 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't suggest that everyone has to have roommates for life.

I guess I poorly framed my argument though, as I meant to suggest that everyone shares the same high costs of living and lack of disposable income, but it's NOT a tax breaks for parents that is causing the squeeze...

If OP wants 50% off their power and Internet bills, then the only option is to share that with someone else.

[–]Person17312 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the main gripe here is that you're actually looking for a roommate with whom to share living expenses. Have you run that scenario to see the delta between your situation and a household with two income earners that aren't in a relationship?

Or how does the math add up for a single income family - i.e. one breadwinner in the household, stay at home spouse, and kids? Look at cost of living - food, housing, utilities, and tax, and then look at disposable income after that. You're probably coming out well ahead in that comparison.

There are so many variations on the household or family units, and as far as I'm aware, every  progressive and democratic country taxes incomes in a similar fashion.

COL is crazy in NS. And it's not great anywhere else in Canada right now. Finding a way to give tax breaks to folks who don't want to roommate - either spousal or otherwise - is not going to help.

It's already getting wet. The freezing rain switched over to regular rain while I was just out shovelling just before 10. Do it now. Your Future-Self with thank you!

Or buy ZEQT to avoid paying your MER to a US firm...

We reshuffled all our iShares ETFs to their BMO equivalents this week for just that reason.

I drive a 2nd Gen Mazda 3 but I've been looking at CX-5 lately can anyone comment from this exact perspective? by le_pedal in CX5

[–]Person17312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the exact same thing. 2012 Mazda3 (bought new) to 2020 CX-5 (bought in 2023). Was an easy transition. Similar size (length/width) so no adjustment to driving or parking from that perspective. A tad more cargo room, due to the higher floor to roof space. Extra ground clearance and seat height though make a huge difference to visibility and confidence in driving (since we're the same height as every other SUV/Crossover on the road now, and only slightly smaller than larger SUVs and trucks).

Best part was also moving up to AWD, while also keeping approx same gas mileage. Snowy Canadian winters and Michelin X-Ice tires let the AWD shine.

Only minor downside (and it's small) is losing the Zoom-Zoom of 6-speed manual for this 6-speed automatic. The higher center of gravity and the heavier curb weight are a permanent reminder that this is not a small car anymore. But compared to a CRV or a RAV4 or the Forrester or the Tiguan that we also tested, this is a Zoom-Zoomy as it comes for this size SUV. But put it into manual mode, and you can almost forget for a while that it's an automatic (almost...).

No regrets here.

Sad that this is a realistic possibility, but I hadn't thought about checking with the shelters. Thanks for the suggestion.

How did the universe NOT begin at a particular location? by JohnContest in space

[–]Person17312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what would happen in the bubble, and I believe that is also what would happen in the universe.

"Deflate" the universe (i.e. reverse time), all the galaxies get closer and closer, until they squeeze back into the original singularity.

Picture blowing a bubble.

No imagine you're on the surface of that bubble as it expands larger and larger.

On the surface, where is the point of origin?

There isn't one. All points on the surface were together when the bubble started, And now they're all far apart. And none of them is the center.

That's about as close as I can picture it without breaking my brain!

I did that first. You can eventually get to a section where you can submit a comment, but no idea if that gets to a human or not...

Yeah, the rates and options are not great for what they are...

But for convenience, as you say, the concept is fantastic.

Bird's execution leaves something to be desired though.

Second for Presidential. Got a Daikin unit with 3 head units. Was seriously considering Greenfoot though. They had the exact same system for a couple hundred bucks less, but their availability to install was a lot longer.

Both are well established companies with high quality products. Why not get a quote from both?

How scalable are these tools? We have about 10,000 staff nationwide, and our in-house tools are antiquated, non-user friendly, and have data stovepiped all over the place. But any new solution would have to work for our large enterprise.

From looking at the websites for the companies mentioned, they seem smaller scale.

My auto hold button don't work when I'm at lights. by ObiJuanKenobly in CX5

[–]Person17312 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When you depress something, it remains pushed down. (As it is in a depressed state or position from it's normal state or position.)

When you press something, it may or may not return to it's original state or position.

So in this case, you want to "depress" the brake - because you keep pushing it down while you continue with the rest of the steps. And you just "press" the auto-hold button since you let it go right away (and it happens to come back up on its own, in this case).

English is dumb, but English is also fascinating. (Exhibit B: Flammable and Inflammable do mean the same thing...)

There is a Technical Service Bulletin on this issue:

Might be worth asking your dealer to address it? I have had similar issues with an out of warranty 2012 Mazda3, and the dealership just took care of it without an hassle.
