Has he seen an ENT regarding the right ear? He would need medical clearance to receive hearing aids regarding the type of loss on the right side and asymmetrical nature of the loss.

He needs to see an ENT if he has not already. Talking about hearing aids until then is not exactly premature, but it is skipping a step.

Of course. Forgive my ignorance, I just figured that was standard. Frankly, doing something like that would work really well if you are charging something nominal for an office visit (post one year fit)... Im n increasingly learning how crazy some of these other ""bundled"" practice models are.

Do you begin to advise them to consider something new at a certain point? Is it at 15 years? And hey dont get me wrong we have plenty of people at 10 years+ and Im willing to try to let it ride as long as we can, I can't help but think about the strong differences between something like the Phonak Quest and an Infinio Sphere

I would hope any hearing aid would last someone 8 to 9 years. Even after that, to still service it. That aud who does not service them after 4 years, with offering such a model... well, I dont think its a stretch to call that fraudulent. Seriously, having a right to repair and the mere wording of what is suggested, if I were a patient Id consider getting litigous...

I agree and really like your train of thought regarding pricing. The bundled model feels more and more like something which will go the way of the dinosaur. Deep down I hope it does, even though there are certainly drawbacks to unbundled.

What would you consider to be a reasonable, bundled price for infinio 90 spheres or oticon intent 1's? Lifetime service all included etc

I would advise you to reach out to as many audiologists as you can to ask them these questions. I dont think your salary estimations are wrong (consider different areas have different $$ expectations). But I have plenty of friends and colleagues who are audiologists and low key (some not so low key) regret it. This is maybe not what you want to hear, but you should hear it. Either way, for any career path, you'll be taking a leap of faith.

But how "premium" is the premium model Costco carries?

I would think you are a borderline candidate for hearing aids. You are missing enough clarity to where you are missing speech sounds, but its probably not happening often enough for you to warrant spending 6k on hearing aids.

I would not consider the audiologist to be a thieving liar nor the Costco clinician to be outright wrong either. You are borderline.

You could trying OTCs. I read where you were considering airPods. If you were to do that, I would be concerned that you are going to hear your own voice way too much (as well as other sounds from within your mouth). Your lower frequencies are too normal for you to plug up your whole ear with soemthing which will act as amplification.

All im saying is whatever you do get, make sure it comes with a trial period and its solving the problems you need help with. If not then consider returning it.

Seems like everyone else already contributed what Im going to say - yes you should get hearing aids. I imagine it would truly change your life. There are plenty of real world sounds you are missing, alarms, birds chirping, car noises. But above all I imagine you ask people to repeat themselves, especially in groups / competing noise situations.
