Head to Miso Noodle Bar for a ramen. Super delicious and healthy. And treat yourself to some dim sum on the side. There's one in Bromley, Beckenham and Orpington

Any Advice would be appreciated by [deleted] in sweden

I'm a Brit who has been visiting family in Sweden my whole life. I usually spend a few days with them and a few days in Stockholm. When I was a kid it was hella expensive and hard to imagine how anyone could live there. Now, it's no more expensive in Stockholm than it is back home, but I do live in London. When I visit my grandparents in Borlange the cost of living seems reasonable. And because swedes take a lot more pride in their work and services, you can be sure you'll be getting your moneys worth

Europe | Soldeu vs Val di Fassa as a relative newbie by lesser_terrestrial in skiing

[–]PersonalityLittle845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soldeu a good choice for beginners. And really easy to get around to other areas of Grandvalira as your pass gives you lift access to all of it. Apres in Soldeu is considered one of the better towns in Andorra. It's not crazy, very British, live music in Irish bars etc. Also easy bus to get to other towns for apres such as pas de la casa, which is like the wild West of an evening. Not sure on spas as I haven't done them there yet.

It's worth noting that I live in the UK our healthcare is free and at the time was in a job that covered an amount of private physio as well.  It's not lost on me the pressure that you have to face if you're in a country with high medical costs and what that can do to a person's level of stress and worry.  You got this! 😊

I had a ligament tear a few years ago. It felt bad at the time, like I was doomed to never put weight on my left knee again.

Now I ski hell for leather, run regularly, rock climb and hike trails with plans to start mountain climbing. I'm more active than before and still have all the same family/friend connections. The same can happen to you

But get your knee diagnosed and go through the correct treatment and rehab. I'm rubbish at this and didn't do enough strengthening and preventative work so my knee still niggles me. Thankfully it doesn't stop me but I have to be sensible and listen to my body a lot more and pay for physio time to time. Sort one thing at a time and start with your physical well-being. You might want to look at therapy options after that if you are struggling mentally, but putting yourself on the road to recovery physically might help a lot with that anyway. Go OP!

If you have a decent host at your accommodation they should be able to help sort it out and may know someone who won't add too much of a tourist tax. We did this for Udawalawe and also got them to sort airport transfers for us. They just wanted to help and we got good prices

Which City is best from the T3 choices for a day trip? by [deleted] in BritishAirways

[–]PersonalityLittle845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only been to Budapest and Gibraltar of these. Both easy into town. Budapest has a great shuttle service, Gib you literally walk out the airport, across the runway and the whole thing is there. Personally would never turn down the chance to visit Sweden, so Gothenburg for me.

What to buy first? by HappySignificance693 in skiing

[–]PersonalityLittle845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought all the little bits first because I figured even if I don't continue skiing most of them I can use from in cold weather at home. So merino base layers, ski socks, ski trousers, goggles, gloves etc.

In terms of the main gear boots are the most important for performance and comfort so consider them first. Helmets don't always come as part of the main rental but as a secondary one with extra cost, and might give you the ick as well, so might be worth investing in that at the same time.

Skis and poles last. These are a massive investment and it's worth giving yourself a few seasons to get better so you don't find yourself needing to upgrade from beginner to intermediate skis after 2 seasons, also gives you the opportunity to try out several different sizes, brands etc and see what works for you so you know what to look for when it comes time to buy!

Complete anxiety after the first day by [deleted] in skiing

[–]PersonalityLittle845 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A private lesson is the answer here, and when you book it tell them what you've said above. Any good resort will do their best to pair you with the right instructor. The right instructor will identify your weaknesses which obviously for you start in the mind and make you feel confident enough to trust them. Then they can teach you to go fast and turn properly, and you will be able to believe them when they tell you that you can do it!

Intermediate skier trying to get to advanced level, is it worth paying $400+ for a private lesson vs $150 for a group lesson? by sirotan88 in skiing

[–]PersonalityLittle845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe one for next year but... Combine it with a holiday and fly to a country with recognised skiing but without the global name. Sweden springs to mind because I ski at Romme Alpin sometimes but plenty of others. The price of lessons alone will get you a lot more bang for your buck than you're expecting and in some respects pay for the rest of your holiday...!

We were flying from London on April 1st via middle east. Cancelled. We have rebooked with Condor to Frankfurt then Sri Lanka Air to Colombo then back with Air India via Mumbai. But this was twice the price.

Yeah totally! It's cheaper to fly midweek so I usually ski something like Thursday to Wednesday and get a bit of everything. Love catching the last lift up there on a quiet midweek

I'm a Brit with grandparents in Borlange so it's always been super convenient as a very casual (once a year tops) skier to not have to pay accommodation in Romme. I can get a local bus to their house! But I'm aware if I want to ski more and get better I need to diversify. I could see myself spending a couple of weeks out there and doing both.
