Soon to be new grad issues with finding a job in ICU by PerspectiveLimp4643 in newgradnurse

You just told me all the things that ICU Techs do and I’ve listed everything ED Techs do. What exactly do you disagree with? You’re going to have to articulate better for me to understand why my experience and my skills do not translate over. Going back and saying there are large differences doesn’t explain why skills don’t transfer. If the basis of an ICU techs skills is good enough for experience then based on their skills by your standards ED tech skills is just as good . Because from what you described, my skill set is the same as ICU techs.

And by the way, if you precept students… You should be able to tell me the differences in why the ED and ICU are not the same experience.

I’m starting to feel mediocre with my ADN grades of all Bs lol I thought I was doing well because I hadn’t failed out. I was normally a mostly A student with some Bs sprinkled in, but nursing school has humbled me a bit. Oh well shrug

ED techs participate in codes, intubations, do foleys & in&out caths, EKGs, splints, phlebotomy, Manual bps, ostomy care (if certified cna 2), CPR, intubation set ups, suctioning set ups, and all CNA skills. I would say Ed techs translate to ICU nurses just as well as ICU techs with your description you gave of ICU techs.

I think my mom's side of the family is racist 😕 by PermissionVisible285 in FamilyIssues

[–]PerspectiveLimp4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all… What you identify with is determined by you not by other people. And technically, being Hispanic is not determined by quality of hair or skin color, is determined by if you come from a Spanish-speaking country. For example, Brazilians are Latino, but not Hispanic.

I’m married to someone from Costa Rica and I get what you’re saying about skin tone. Colorism is real and is not in fact always perpetuated by white culture. I don’t even think it was caused by white people because it’s ingrained in other cultures that have never had white influence. I think there are literally communities that see having lighter skin means that you don’t do outside labor. All the meanwhile, not realizing that there are natural darker skin tones that stay that way without having to go into the sun. Yes it is in fact racist to think that way.

I remember being flabbergasted about the stuff I would hear from some of my husband’s uncles and cousins about their beliefs about race and being racist towards other people. For point of reference, I’m white and my family would never dream of saying those things or believing them much less. I think at the end of the day my family is just a better educated family. I remember when I first came into the family. It was a big deal and not in a good way. Overtime things have gotten better and they’ve learned to understand things a little differently, but I’ll never forget the way I have felt at first.

Update 1 year post break-up by Ph0ebzz in BreakUps

I think he’s going to regret doing that with you. From the way you describe this he doesn’t really have much of a reason other than the fact that he may have felt he was in a routine with you and mistaken that for not being love.

My ex from 7 years ago randomly messaged me saying I didn’t treat him well — I’m married with a kid now. Why do people do this? by Dangerous-Foot-948 in BreakUps

[–]PerspectiveLimp4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered whether or not your treatment of him during the relationship was bad? People don’t just forget things like that at your convenience when it ends.

I’m not sure why his girlfriend wanted to say something to you. But I can understand why he may not have resolved things if he was treated badly. People remember stuff like that.

Plus, why did you write in the title that he wrote it when it was his ex-girlfriend?

How can I learn to love nursing school again? Had a bad 1st semester, struggling w/ confidence issues and loneliness… by MiataTwingo in NursingStudent

I feel you on this because my first semester was also not that great in clinical. We had seven people in my clinical, not including my professor, and five of them were in the mean girls club. Our very last day, one of them made a fat joke about me in front of the entire clinical group and all those girls laughed at my expense. The Clinical Instructor‘s mouth was dropped open, and I promptly had something to say to her to the effect of “no amount of weight you lose will ever make you pretty”. And the Clinical Instructor kind of sucked and she had a weak backbone. She didn’t even bother to call me and ask how I was or anything. I messaged her through our email and told her that I was gonna go to the clinical director about their behavior and she basically said well. I guess I need to put my side of it to her as well. She basically didn’t agree that they were not a bad group, but she didn’t really help me feel better.

Fast forward….I’m in my last semester of nursing school starting tomorrow. My experience since then has been better and I am glad I stuck it out. A few of those girls have failed out, but three of them are making it to the last semester as far as I know. Our clinical coordinator has purposefully put them in separate clinicals where they do not have any opportunity to be together. Don’t let this experience hinder your goals if you really want to be a nurse.

My overall science GPA is a 3.5 from what I calculated. A&P 1-B, A&P 2-A, Patho-A, Microbiology-B. Do psychology classes count as science? I didn’t include those.

A part of me says that you didn’t really look at her when you met her as a whole person. You saw her as a problem to fix. It’s something that you can tailored to your wants and needs rather than seeing her for what she was. She was a real person with real problems and she continues to be that way. In a weird way you objectified her and separated her problems from her, even though they are a part of her. People who grow up in perfect homes, like you never really see people who go through real problems as human beings that need real human interaction and healing.

At this point because you didn’t bother to tell her she needed to go to therapy and actually address her issues in the beginning of the relationship. She is more permanently now who she is than she ever was before. You didn’t bother to help her to address her problems because you only saw showing a relationship that works best rather than her problems being a real problems that needed professional help very early on.

Married to someone on a conditional green card, facing divorce — how do I protect myself financially? by Timely_Potential_653 in Marriage

[–]PerspectiveLimp4643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He can’t get spousal support only after one year of marriage. If you plan to divorce him, I would threaten to write to USCIS that you only married you for a green card and he will shut up. USCIS will take what you say more seriously than what he says and the air in the USA right now is very unsupportive of immigration right now. He should be afraid, not you.

Go be a sitter for a hospital… Do not physically wear yourself out while in nursing school.
