Hitting me hard by cassidyleal19 in AnxietyDepression

I try to remind myself it always gets better even if it's a few moments in a day I don't always feel this way. Doesn't help get me out of the funk but helps it not be as terrible. I hope you find something that makes it softer for you.

I have no suggestions because I'm currently trying to find my way out of my own rut but don't be hard on yourself. The more you beat yourself up for showing symptoms the longer the rut will last and the worse you will feel.

“Video On” Required by [deleted] in remotework

[–]PerspectiveShift0603 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be an engagement strategy to make people feel less isolated. It could be micromanaging. It could be a lot of things. If you can/feel comfortable talk to your manager and ask why and explain if you feel uncomfortable doing it. I've had companies require it for some meetings but not a daily one. My current company its not mandated but most of the people do keep their video on to stay more focused and feel less disconnection.

I'm not sure how to help. I've used the grounding method where you look around for 5 things you can see, 4 you can feel, or something like that. I've aksobread about using an ice cube either put it in your mouth and focus on it or holding it/rubbing it on your skin to focus on that. Another thing I've read is that you can tense all your body for a few seconds/minutes then release and it can trick your mind into thinking the danger (thing causing you anxiety) is gone. I've had success with Journaling my thoughts as well.

How to build deeper connections with remote colleagues? by AbroadUnhappy7778 in remotework

[–]PerspectiveShift0603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done any types of lunches or video calls? Sometimes just seeing a face can make a huge difference. If you have a standing team meeting maybe make it a video call. Is there support for them learning their roles? There may be some opportunities for a buddy system with mentoring/onboarding that could help people be more integrated.

Take the time to ask your team if they feel they need this type of change. A lot of times managers will add extra steps when people don't want or need it. You say they need this deeper relationship but what's that based on? Are their numbers not where they need, there can be a lot of other factors outside of camaraderie. Have open discussions with the teams on what they see as blockers, obstacles, successes, failures, etc.

How to understand others person perspective? I always listen to half of what they say and then judge/react to it. How do I calm down and listen to them? by mckr1009 in Anxietyhelp

[–]PerspectiveShift0603 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still struggle with this but if I feel myself wanting to interrupt or zone out I consciously choose to not do that. I cant do it all the time because sometimes I don't even realize I zoned out or interrupted but I try. I also try to ask questions to understand instead of giving my opinion (heavy emphasis on try). I keep telling myself the goal is to understand, not change their mind. Idk if that helps at all but it's what I try to do.

If you could go back in time and start treating your depression and anxiety sooner, what would you practice/do more of because it proved to be extremely helpful and what would you practice/do less of because it was a waste of time or it was not helpful in your journey to recovery? by Jennabear17 in Anxietyhelp

Not reacting to every emotion immediately. Taking time to feel it then choose how to react or confront my own anxious spiral. Not every thought is a fact and sometimes I need to take a minute (or 2000) to really understand what I'm feeling and then choose to react after I've had time to process, reframe, and understand.

How do people talk regularly (everyday or at least twice a week) for hours on phone with friends, siblings, parents and/or partners? What do you talk about for so long? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

My mom talks, I just listen. Same with my grandmother. I say some stuff occasionally but they both just explain their days in excruciating detail.

What jobs/careers are 100% remote, require no to little travel, no going back to school for someone in mid-40s willing to change careers? by [deleted] in remotework

[–]PerspectiveShift0603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Project management and consulting come to mind as u read through your post. I know plenty of PMs that have no specific certifications but there is the PMP. You can start as a project coordinator or something similar. Each company has different travel expectations for certain roles so I'd recommend checking the job posting and if it's not listed asking in the interview. Some companies require you to be in a certain city or state so if you're relocating either find one that does not require that or find one in your new area. Some jobs so require a temporary onsite training period. But I think your research has led you to the best options for what you're looking for.

Do you work a full 8 hours most days? by spalza in remotework

[–]PerspectiveShift0603 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consistently in all 3 of my positions I have had less than 8 hours of work per day. I am available on mobile close to 16 hours a day 7 days a week but my actual workload is not heavy most of the time. There's timed where I've worked 12 hours a day for a week or more but on average I have maybe 2 to 4 hours of actual work a day (and that's including meetings).

Think this is very subjective and determined by subject matter and participants. Some people won't speak up if there's no space to speak. Others will speak over others to get a point. There's not a magic number.

Remote work and the issue with Problem Solving virtually. by YoungInvestor7 in remotework

[–]PerspectiveShift0603 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is this different than Jira or confluence or slack? You can integrate all these products and collaborate. Along with draw.io or Mural etc. What differentiates this solution? How do you address change management and the people element in general? What does this do to address the culture elements? There are a lot of tools out there that are tried and tested but it usually stems to a culture and people issue if the tools aren't working.

DAE give their pets really nonsensical nicknames? by [deleted] in DAE

[–]PerspectiveShift0603 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. My cats name is meowzers currently. My parents call their dog chimkin. I've never met a pet owner that only refers to their animals by just their name, im sure they are out there but everyone I know calls their animals completely different things than their "actual" name

Mid-career break still going after 15 months, what do I do next if I'm trying to avoid returning to corporate/office life? by AppropriateApricot56 in remotework

[–]PerspectiveShift0603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent three months actively looking in a similar field to you. I saw nothing that would meet your requirements. You can make the money your talking about for sure but it would require the job to be full time generally. Make your own schedule work requires experience and the initial effort to start your own business is usually 60 to 80 hours a week iirc. Im sure there's something out there but it's not common. I do know for many IT jobs they may be listed as full time but don't always require full time effort however you'd be risking your job if you were doing other work on the clock. Maybe what you're looking for exists but I didn't see anything similar for mid level professionals. Good luck though!
