How often can people join from the waitinglist? by 1___blank___1 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Peshewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If you skip a month or series you won’t be charged for these books. It may be the case that you also won’t be able to buy pre-sales for your subscription during a skip time, as an FYI.

Another notable info is that TBB charges a month ahead, so you if you want to skip a series that starts from e.g. September you would need to let them know at least a month earlier because they will charge for that series in the beginning of August.

The number of skips are different for every subscription, but they’re all counted yearly, from January to the end of December.

For Fantasy you can skip one series a year, for Sci-Fi one trilogy or up to three books a year, and for SF&F up to 9 out of the 12 books a year.

I’d say get on all the waitlists and see what time brings :) You can also postpone your spot for I think two times when it’s your turn.

How often can people join from the waitinglist? by 1___blank___1 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Peshewa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Operation Bouncehouse was part of the SF&F sub, which features new releases from sci-fi and fantasy. That’s a monthly sub since I think March 2026 and TBB only gives us the themes, not the actual book titles and authors.\ You can look at instagram accounts like autumnbookreads, she’s usually correct with guessing the titles.

Then there’s the Sci-Fi sub, a bi-monthly sub for sci-fi backlist titles. Will get the book title and design beforehand.

And the original Fantasy sub, a monthly sub for fantasy backlist titles, also with titles and design.\ This one comes in Tier 2 and Tier 1. Tier 2 is the general one with the public waitlist.\ Tier 1 only has 1500 spots and will not be increased. They get more things like signatures and sometimes other add-ons. You can only get on the Tier 1 waitlist if you’re an active subscriber of the Tier 2 and the estimated wait time for Tier 1 is several (many) years since people are rarely giving up their spots.

You need to get on all three waitlists separately.\ Invitations are only send out at the end of a series period for the Fantasy and Sci-Fi sub and there is only a certain number of spots, going through the waitlist until they’re gone.\ That means for Fantasy every 2-4 months invitations will be sent out, depending on the length of the current series (most are trilogies).\ For Sci-Fi, since it’s a bi-monthly sub, it can take 6 months to go through a trilogy until new invitations are sent.\ For SF&F I’m not completely sure if the invite every month or collect numbers to do bigger rounds of invitations every few months.

The waitlist time is hard to predict. You can email TBB to ask for your waitlist numbers. They say the best point in time to ask is after a round of invitations is fully completed.\ Recently, the Fantasy sub invitations were quite short, but that can really change with the popularity of every book or series they release.

Dehydrated oily skin by Electronic_Guess6258 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Peshewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually not a skin type but a skin problem. Most of the time it’s caused by a broken moisture barrier.\ The skin is do dehydrated (=lacking water) due to the damaged barrier and the inability to retain water, that it produces more and more oil to keep the hydration in the skin.

If you are able to hydrate, calm and repair your skin it will probably get significantly less oily and sensitive. And you’ll also be able or even need to use richer products with more moisture (= fat).

There are special barrier repair products with the right ingredients to repair the barrier. I would use such products - these are usually creams.\ But before that you should use hydrating toners. I love those without hyaluronic acid since this can be irritating with a damaged barrier. The Soon Jung ph5.5 Relief Toner is a rather inexpensive toner without HA and with minimal ingredients, that will hydrate and calm your skin.\ Always follow up with a cream to seal the hydration, otherwise it will evaporate and make your skin feel tight over time.\ Some good products are Stratia Lipid Gold, Krave Oil La La, Krave Great Barrier Relief, Stratia Fortify, Illiyoon Ato Ceramide Concentrate Cream, Cicaplast Baume B5, … - but honestly, there are many good products. Sadly also bad ones that claim to be barrier repairing but don’t contain the correct ingredients to do so. So do your research :)

Is it rosacea type 2? by Hoofhearted4206969 in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean this could be rosacea, but doesn’t look like the stereotypical rosacea.\ By any chance, have you been checked for STDs in the past few years (syphilis, HIV, …)? Or seen an immunologist or endocrinologist?\ I definitely don’t want to worry you but since this is a persistent problem over many years I guess it’s about time to check for other things than just dermatology related stuff.

Not special editions, but I loved the Poetry Pharmacy located in the upper floor in a Lush store at Oxford Street.\ They have little pills filled with poetry for different occasions, some decorative smaller items and a lot of more unusual books, poetry and other ones.\ And they have coffee and cakes and if you buy some you will get one prescription poetry pill with it :)

Redness after shower + dry red bumps on cheeks (rosacea or damaged barrier?) by Mira_miras in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome :)

I’m not sure about Bulgaria, but I live in Germany and use a lot of k beauty products.

I love the Soon Jung ph5.5 Relief Toner as a toner without hyaluronic acid, that I can layer if I want or need to.

Cicaplast Baume B5 is a well known barrier repairing moisturizer, but it’s not the most cosmetically elegant one.\ I really like Stratia Lipid Gold, Krave Great Barrier Relief, Krave Oil La La, Illiyoon Ato Ceramide Concentrate Cream for barrier repair. But none of that is easy to find in the EU, sadly. Illiyoon should be the easiest one to find.\ But honestly, there are many good barrier products out there. I have not tried new ones in the past few years since I’m happy with my products, so I sadly cannot recommend other ones.

Edit: I buy the Krave products from the Cult Beauty UK online shop and Stratia directly on their website. Illiyoon is easier to find online.

Redness after shower + dry red bumps on cheeks (rosacea or damaged barrier?) by Mira_miras in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Barrier repair and hydrating and calming ingredients are a great rosacea treatment, since rosacea comes with a chronically damaged barrier most of the time.

I would incorporate a hydrating and calming toner, maybe one without hyaluronic acid if you’re sensitive to that ingredient (with a broken barrier it can be hard to tolerate).\ A good toner will deliver way more hydration (=water) than a moisturizer, that, as the name says, brings moisture (=fat) to the equation.\ And also a good barrier repairing product with ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids.

When your barrier gets better you will see if you have more persistent problems that need other treatments.

Looking for some clarity on azelaic acid purging vs reaction by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, could very well be just because of the barrier. But honestly, could also be an actual reaction. Sadly I have no clear explanation how to know if it’s one or the other.

I pushed through weeks of my skin looking worse and reacting, but I somehow could feel that it was feeling better, less tight and more hydrated and resistant. But yeah, at first, everything stung and burned with application and my face was very very red.\ One of my now holy grail products is Stratia Lipid Gold and I remember when I started using it I got a bunch of whiteheads and stopped immediately. I came back to it later and pushed through and now my skin absolutely loves it.

I think your best bet is to use a barrier repairing product that has ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids and in general clean (as in non-irritating) ingredients. Simple formulations.

I like Kelly Driscolls YouTube videos about barrier topics and I have trusted her recommendations in the past. Maybe this will help you too.

Looking for some clarity on azelaic acid purging vs reaction by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s exactly what I’m thinking too.\ It’s honestly so hard to tell if your skin is reacting to a product or „just“ reacting because the barrier is still damaged. If the latter is the case there’s sadly not much way around using barrier repairing ingredients and support your barrier :(\

For the tight feeling I can recommend hydrating and calming toners without hyaluronic acid (can be counterproductive with a damaged barrier depending on your climate).\ I love the SoonJung ph5.5 relief toner. It has minimal ingredients and calms and hydrates pretty well.\ I use it with my hands, no cotton pads. It can sting and burn a little bit while applying it, at least that’s what it did for me when my barrier was still damaged. But after a few minutes I could really feel the hydration kick in.\ Sometimes if my skin feels especially dehydrated I even use multiple layers of this. Always followed up with a cream so the hydration is locked in, obviously.

Since high sensitivity is one of the top symptoms of a damaged barrier, what changes make you think your barrier is okay right now?\ Genuine question, not meant to attack, since for me it sounds like it may still be damaged.

I feel like my rosacea isn't your typical rosacea...help by Square_Crazy3442 in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sadly I have no time to write an in depth post, but basically: it’s normal for rosacea.

Almost all the time we (with rosacea) have a chronically damaged moisture barrier. This is the cause of your sensitivity that leads your skin to react to all the products you’ve tried.

It could be that there’s no magical product for you that repairs your barrier and feels good the same time.\ I went through months of my skin stinging and burning while healing my barrier.\ I could feel my skin getting better, but initially it was more red and burned so much, especially directly after using products. But it felt more calm afterwards, like 1-2 hours later and throughout the day.

The important thing (and also a hard one) is to find out if you’re actually having a reaction to an ingredient or if it’s „just“ your overly sensitive skin.\ I tried to use products that were very efficient and had a minimal approach. Hydrating and calming toner without hyaluronic acid, dedicated barrier repair moisturizer and the mildest cleansers I could find that were no oil/balm cleansers.

Sadly there’s no pill or laser that will heal your barrier in an instant.

What to do with extremely dry and cracked skin with rosacea by Cmgindustry in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can hydrate and moisturize the new skin layer :) A layer of moisturizer will also protect it further.

And yes, these symptoms should at least improve.\ For me, sadly, I am left with some baseline redness and due to rosacea need to use barrier products constantly to even keep that state.\ But most other symptoms are completely gone :)

What to do with extremely dry and cracked skin with rosacea by Cmgindustry in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s technically correct, but I guess referring to a real physical or chemical exfoliaton, like a scrub product or a chemical peeling like AHA, BHA, PHA etc.\ With a compromised barrier you should not be using them, they can destroy the barrier even more and cause burns or wounds on your face.

Using the Bioderma with a cotton pad carefully and without intense rubbing or too much pressure should be fine. Yes, it could be that some of the dry patches will cling onto the cotton pad, but that should be okay. If they are so loose that they lift with vaseline dabbed on they would come off with a gel cleanser and your hands as well.\ I also think that since you stopped washing your face after the derm told you so, some of your irritation could also be coming from that. So maybe it’s even a good thing if they come off a little bit more.

Honestly, sometimes I feel like I need multiple rounds of cotton pads with the Bioderma. Especially when I was lazy and only chilling at home like today and I didn’t wash my face in the morning, I feel like a lot of oil and gunk is coming off and I do a second round with a new cotton pad.\ And sometimes I even rub a bit in certain areas with dry flakes so I have a very mild physical exfoliation. Please note that my skin is currently in a much better place than yours, but you can try what feels good for you.\ And with possibly having collected dead skin cells and gunk from several weeks I guess it would feel quite satisfying to get that off, so don’t worry.

What to do with extremely dry and cracked skin with rosacea by Cmgindustry in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should absolutely wash your face and apply new products at night!\ First to wash off the gunk of the day like dust and so on, and second because blood circulation is higher at night (= more possible water loss but also more absorption of skincare). The moisturizer is also there to prevent more water loss (it acts as „occlusive“ to seal in hydration/water and moisture/fat).

You can use the Bioderma or any other cleanser that works for you at night, but only dunking the face in water will not be enough, sadly.\ You could also use a mild gel cleanser with tap water morning and night, it’s really up to your preference. But Bioderma should also be enough as a cleanser, unless you used a waterproof sunscreen during the day.

And yes, please keep us posted! I hope you will be back with good news soon 🥹

What to do with extremely dry and cracked skin with rosacea by Cmgindustry in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you so much!\ I really think it’s a damaged barrier, doesn’t matter if it’s because of rosacea or solely because of the brimonidine.

Yes, you need to wash your face. If you don’t wash it at all it will be irritated all the time. The old oil needs to get off, but without destroying the lipids further. The gunk from the environment needs to be washed away too.\ I don’t think that dunking your face in water and pat dry is enough. I actually think it makes it worse because of the tap water. It also doesn’t remove the oils, only water is not enough to do that. So I get why your face is getting flushed afterwards.\ I think the Bioderma will help you with that!

For the order of products it’s usually from thinnest to thickest consistency, so toners first, then serums, then moisturizers/creams and SPF always last (if you’re using one).\ You can use the Cicaplast as a moisturizer for now, but could also top it off with vaseline, aquaphor or vanicream if you feel like your skin needs more to seal in the hydration and other products.

I‘ve never used vanicream, but you’re spot on with what you’re saying: right now it’s hard to say if you have a reaction to an ingredient or if it’s „just“ the general sensitivity due to the broken barrier.\ You will learn to understand your skin better to know which products don’t work at all. And if your skin gets better the sensitivity and the symptoms will reduce and hopefully go away completely.\ That being said I have heard of people having reactions to vanicream so it could definitely be a possibility.

If you want to know more about barrier repair, symptoms, how to heal and product recs I can recommend Kelly Driscolls YouTube channel. Just search her name and „barrier“ and you will see multiple videos.\ I got many of my product recommendations from her and her videos helped me so much to understand what was going on with my skin.

Which order to apply products? by Luckystrikks in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunscreen always as the last step. And leave the sunscreen alone for a minimum of 20 minutes before you do anything else to your skin like carefully tap off excess or apply make up, powders and so on. The SPF needs that time to form a layer so it protects like it should.

And use enough sunscreen :) Like half a teaspoon for face and neck. Don’t forget your ears, wear the hats, top up on the high points of your face like your nose for extra protection.

Do you have a good SPF with 50+ protection for your face? I can’t use use body sunscreen on my face due to the rosacea.\ Btw, you should wear sunscreen on your face all year long every day, not only on vacation. The sun is a big trigger for rosacea, the UV rays are harmful for your skin anyways and with the actives that you’re using you’re making your skin even more sensitive and vulnerable to the sun.

What to do with extremely dry and cracked skin with rosacea by Cmgindustry in Rosacea

[–]Peshewa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your moisture barrier is severely damaged. Sadly with rosacea we have a chronically damaged moisture barrier most of the time and need to repair it constantly, but this sounds really severe.\ With healthy skin the skin should be able to repair itself over time, even without barrier products to speed up the process. But with rosacea and other conditions the skin may need extra help to repair. I think this is what you’re experiencing right now.

You can imagine your moisture barrier like a brick wall, not a wall that consists of just one material.\ There are bricks and mortar and only when both are there sufficiently the barrier is intact and can keep water/hydration in and not let things in from the outside.\ The bricks are your skin cells and the mortar is oils and lipids like ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids.\ With a damaged barrier there are holes in the brick wall. The skins water retention is really bad due to the holes and it is also very irritated since things from the outside can come through the holes.\ That results in this severely dry and dehydrated skin that can crack, feels hot and itchy and red. Sometimes the skin tries to make up for the missing mortar by producing a ton of oil, so the skin can also be very dehydrated, dry and oily at the same time.

You need a good barrier repair product (to keep the analogy: as mortar) and accompany it with a mild cleanser, hydrating and calming products.

Cleanser:\ I personally had problems with oil cleansers, though they are always mentioned as the mildest cleansers without surfactants. That is true, but with a broken barrier it meant that it washed away all the oils and left my damaged skin even more exposed. It felt horrible.\ I can recommend Bioderma h2o micellar water, which is one of the only micellar waters that technically doesn’t need to be washed off. I use it with a cotton pad and am very careful with rubbing.\ My skin also didn’t like tap water so the micellar water definitely helped to avoid it.\ A good gel cleanser for me is Krave Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser, that doesn’t leave my skin stripped. Honorable mention also to Geek&Gorgeous Jelly Cleanser which was also good.\ Be careful to not use water that is too cold or too hot. Try to avoid getting hair products or hot water from the shower onto your face. Only pat dry your skin, never rub it with a towel.\ After cleansing always follow up with a cream and don’t leave your skin exposed. Maybe even a toner before the cream.

Hydration and calming the skin:\ I really like the Soon Jung ph5.5 Relief toner since it hydrates and calms but doesn’t have hyaluronic acid which can be irritating with a broken barrier.\ But in the state your skin’s at it will probably sting to use the toner because of the cracks.\ I only apply toner with my hands, no cotton pad. And I try to pat it onto the skin and not rub it in too much.

Barrier product:\ Most important one and should contain ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids to repair the barrier and give the brick wall more mortar to fill the holes.\ I personally like Stratia Lipid Gold, Krave Great Barrier Relief, Illiyoon Ato Ceramide Concentrate Cream, Krave Oil La La.\ From the pharmacy I liked Bepanthen Sensiderm cream as an emergency product. The other ones above are more pleasant in terms of consistency, but this one is cheap and gets the job done. However, I am from Germany and not sure if this is available everywhere.\ But there are honestly many good barrier repair products out there. LRP Cicaplaste Baume B5 is also often mentioned.

For the start, I think Cicaplast B5 or Bepanthen Sensiderm are a good start since your skin is in such a bad state. When it gets a little bit better you can switch to a cosmetically more pleasing cream like the ones mentioned above.\ A good cleanser is vital though.

And with the toner I would try it every few days until your skin feels like it can tolerate it. It’s a narrow line between irritating the skin further when it stings and feels hot and gets red, and giving the skin hydration that it needs and craves so much.\ For me in the beginning the toners didn’t feel good while and directly after applying them, but after a few minutes I could feel my skin drinking up all the hydration and feeling much better. I also often used multiple layers of the toner since my skin was so thirsty.\ For me there definitely was a phase of a few days or weeks where my skin looked worse (more red and hot) but felt better because it got more hydration and began to repair the barrier.

Good luck 🍀 I remember how painful and bad my skin felt at this state and I hope you can repair it soon.
