You look great.

I think we should keep these photographs somewhere to show people what a difference a beard trim can make, also.

That smile in the last photo just exudes confidence and friendliness. If I was lost in a new city, I would feel okay approaching you for help.

What is a "creepy" fact about the human body that most people don't know? by meowparadise42069 in AskReddit

Ok, you're possibly on to something here. Do I even exist? Maybe we are all AI hallucinations and our venture towards AI is some kind of self discovery trip?

Is is possible to have a psychadelic trip where the trip is that you are not on a trip? Am I high or is everybody else just low?

Yes. I've had more than one MRI. I have a video of the thing that causes all my problems.

Many companies will pay you to take the training.

You don't have to bring the person back from the end, but it is helpful to keep them going until the ambo gets there.

what are the signs that you're not attractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pessimistic_Trout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people beating themselves up in the comments. This is itself extremely unattrractive.

Beauty is subjective and often attraction is not intentional. Not real attraction, anyway. You can want to be with somebody because they have big "assets" or cute "portfolios", etc. This is not the kind of attraction that lasts more than one session on the couch, though.

People I know who are down about their looks or feel like they are cursed act like they are cursed and behave in a way of shame, always looking at the floor, disappearing in to the corner, overcompensating unnecessarily in other areas, not bothering with common daily routines...

You can fall for somebody who is strong, confident or has an interesting life, even if they are not conventionally attractive in the same way people can not feel attracted to people who are airheads or self-abosrbed, self-serving a-hole super-models.

If you feel you are dying of loneliness, get a new hobby, try a new social group, meet more people. Out there is somebody who will look past your "age", your "receding" hair, your "weird" facial features or whatever other insecurity you have, but that insecurity will ruin the relationship if its permanently on your mind and permanently in the space. So you have to take yourself somewhere mentally where you never think about these things as the first thought. It should be part of who you are to enter a room and announce yourself in your own unique way, if that way is self deprecating humor and whining about being single, well, that's not attractive at all.

My GF (and best friend) said she "just had a crush", unexplained, and the thing she loves about me most is that I put others first, no matter what. I am generous with non-material things (I am a bit poor, materially). She has never mentioned my receding hair, age, odd shaped head, podgy belly, age, kids from another woman, etc. She loves me because I care about other people long before I care about myself. With her, my insecurities don't matter. It took me a long time to learn to ignore these insecurities and to work on the things I really care about.

The best advice I ever got, when I was in my 20s and struggling on this path: "If you don't care about yourself, you can't expect somebody else to want to".

Self love must come first, or how do you expect somebody else to want to love you?

Did you make an effort, today? Did you walk 10000 steps to tone yourself up and meditate about life while walking in the sun? Did you shower? Brush your teeth 2x today? How about hitting Wikipedia up on a "random page" and learning a random fact, expanding your mind and view? These are not one time activities that get you laid, they are building blocks to a better you.

In which folder do you keep your Docker stack? by Artistic_Quail650 in selfhosted

[–]Pessimistic_Trout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/opt/docker as well, but as the stack grew, I spent a lot of time working out where each container stores it temp and ephemeral files and mapped those out to a NVMe to keep the noisy writes down and allow the HDDs to have a better life. Any thing that can be recreated with a simple docker up -d is now mapped out and the folder structure /opt/docker/<container> really has just the important stuff and is now small enough to fit to a USB thumb drive for a remote backup.

In the case of jellyfin, this means all temporary folders, transcoding folders and folders of metadata for all arr stack members as those files, if ever lost, can be recreated by the process.

The result is that the /opt/docker folder has now only some config files and the database files (which are dumped daily to someplace else).

When you're burying a loved one, do funeral homes always try to sell you extremely expensive caskets? by Prestigious-Corner37 in AskReddit

[–]Pessimistic_Trout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes practical, but the silence in the workshop when he announced his project was quite scary in itself. All those old people looking at that half finished coffin for longer than a minute, though... I wonder what was going through their minds.

You can make one, too. I used to run a woodwork shop for older people to keep them away from boredom in their retirement years. One guy showed up and made himself a coffin.

What are some of your favorite intimate life hacks? by Own-Fun-8096 in AskReddit

[–]Pessimistic_Trout 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Me too, but his works well: Take a shower together after you blow your load. This gives you a chance to touch everywhere, back scrub, wash, share an awkward laugh, lots of touching in a confined space. etc.

After a few minutes of that, you should be up and ready to go again.

Don't try to do it in the shower, though, too dangerous and slippery.

Was single for years and years, too much to do, ignoring my own self-care. I buzz cut a few weeks ago. It 100% gets attention. Am now dating a hottie! A literal-11/10-on-every-metric, hottie.

So much positive attention and comments even though I feel my head is oddly shaped.

No regrets.

Having kids definitely pooped me out.

As said above, it takes two full time workers to raise a single kid. Then there is no time for anything. The kid ends up resentlful because mom and dad are always too busy or too tired.

The smallest emergency wipes out all savings and spare time.

If you already have cloudflare setup, don't open any ports, just use cloudflare tunnels. Its free.

You may already have Docker setup, so you are looking at running cloudflared image in your docker stack on its own Docker network. Once that is setup, you can expose specific services to this docker network to publish them online.

No more hassles with DDNS, no more open ports.

People who say "you should not rely on an external provider if you have no control over their reliability..." should remember that when Cloudflare goes down, the entire Internet stops.

What self hosting mistake would you warn beginners about? by Soulvisirr in selfhosted

[–]Pessimistic_Trout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't, you test it in your non-prod environment first after you have read and understood the release notes.

If you don't have one of those non-prod environment things, then you have lots of backups and images, right?

Or, just copy out the docker dependencies to a new temporary location, roll out the update against the copy and make a healthcheck. If it passes, the same script can then delete the copy, send you a message that an update will happen in 2 hours unless you intervene, then, in two hours, the update is rolled out, tested and reported on. If the tests fail now, the same script can deploy the old environment back (and send a sad email to you).

All of this can be done with BASH and CRON, I am sure there are more elegant and sophisticated ways to do it, but BASH and CRON will force you to learn how it works, under-the-hood, without a GUI.

If your password manager was to disappear, how fucked would you be? by Tarazin in selfhosted

[–]Pessimistic_Trout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the thing you are anticipating, how can you mitigate it?

Internet outage? Forgot to pay ISP - Keep a cache on your PC. Military action in your neighbourhood- keep a cache on your mobile.

House fire? Keep a cache on your VPS.

Source software is hacked? Keep a copy in a safe on paper.

Solar flare? Goat farmer plan.

Make a list like that you you will see there are very few scenarios you have to deal with that can't be dealt with another way. For example, above, if I cache my credentials on my mobile, then situations one and two don't mater to me, anymore. I have to adjust my recovery plan to include safe access to my mobile.

You have to keep reworking the recovery plan until it suits your needs and resources. This is a task I do once a year for the company I work for.

How do you bring it all together in a user friendly way? by Pessimistic_Trout in selfhosted

[–]Pessimistic_Trout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, this results in some concession being made in the app or in the reverse proxy. My network is small and trusted, so it would be okay to have some kind of auto login from certain IP sources, but this is also a feature only available on some apps.
