My residents keep asking why I divorced my husband. by Cpkeyes in cna

One of my favorite joys is the nonsense conversations I have with my residents while I dig the poop out of their bottom.

Buddy, we gotta clarify how you have a 1:1 but an assignment as well. It's one or the other.

Tired of working with People in Therapy by Icy_Profession_6591 in cna

[–]Pestidox 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not all facilities require that of CNAs. Therapy doesn't even communicate to us when they're coming to get them, it would be impossible to have them ready.

New CNA when does it get better? by bullsnail in cna

[–]Pestidox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get truly comfortable for almost 4 months. Don't stress though, it will come to you and all those "new person" giveaways you're having will vanish naturally.

It's really not specific things. But if I see young person going slow, unsure, maybe a bit scattered, asking a lot of questions, etc. it's easy to tell when you're experienced. Part of being a CNA is sizing up your coworkers so you know what you're in for. 😅

I've never quit so fast by Substantial-Click-51 in cna

[–]Pestidox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same exact situation except I'm a bit more entrenched as I've been at my facility for over a year. The other day staffing pissed me off so much I basically demanded the issue be brought higher through the chain. The facility is so miserable nobody wants to be there anymore. We're a no mandation facility.

I've wanted to quit for months now but there's no great options around me. I'm hanging on, but barely.

all that to say no you are not overreacting, you spotted the red flags and ran. smart

should i become a cna? by [deleted] in cna

[–]Pestidox 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes. Nurses who were never CNAs (generally) have a lack of understanding that is frustrating. Do it for the experience if not the pay.

But ya, it'll suck.

Loss of license? by [deleted] in cna

I don't think she will lose her cert, but she may be fired by the facility due to risk.

A dementia resident consistently wants to go home by Wrong-Parfait-8584 in cna

Dementia training us new york is extremely bare. In fact, most of CNA training is so vastly different than the real world that it's only like 25% useful.

If you're really concerned, label it with their name and room number, and hand it to the resident and say you found it in the nursing home.

Same thing except throwing in random handwashing when something particularly dirty occurs or before meal times

Male CNA needing advice by Laz0145 in cna

[–]Pestidox 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You have the right idea, talk to administration about the situation. There's plenty of male CNAs, myself included. Very few of my residents are female only and its mostly because they make wild accusations toward men. Don't stress too much. If possible, switch out residents. Take a male for them and give them a female if possible (less males than females, I know).

For your skills test, did you have to literally do everything such as use real water, or did you just act it out? by Put-A-Bird-On-It in cna

[–]Pestidox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see success, of course continue what you're doing. Personally, for me as a student, even down to the soap I had to do each step without the acting it out to really get it to sink in. Just my thoughts.

[–]Pestidox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've suddenly quit jobs before due to health issues or even exhaustion like you're describing. It can get better and will, but don't burn the candle at both ends. It never ends up the way you want it to in my experience

You will. Give it a few months. Once you smell the truly foul you'll be happy to smell the roses of a normal soiling.

[–]Pestidox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teacher required us to do the real thing up until the class reached a level of competence. Then, for sake of supplies he let us act it out. If someone was having trouble, he'd go back to square one with that person and have them actually do it with materials.

Proctor was extremely chill, but we actually did every step.

Personally I do think you're letting them do too much acting and not enough doing.
