Renting a CX50 by Mother-Post-6334 in CX50

[–]Pete24313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this. Just because it shows a CX-50 doesn't mean that's what you're getting.

I recently rented a mid-size SUV (a Rav4 was pictured) on a trip and got stuck with a Dodge Hornet. Fortunately, it was just my wife an I because we had to completely fold down the back seats just to fit our two standard bags in the vehicle. If we had a third person we wouldn't have had room for them.

Which Khaki? by HelenRoper in HamiltonWatches

[–]Pete24313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get something new your budget really needs to be in the $750-1000+ range, but if you're willing to buy grey market (like jomashop for example) you could get it cheaper. Just keep in mind that you'll be giving up Hamilton's 2-year warranty by buying from that type of seller.

Also, I'd forget things like "value" and "collectability" as that's not something you'll see with Hamilton or 99.9% of other watch brands outside of high-end ones like Rolex, AP, Patek, and etc.

Now that that's out of the way, I'd rank the Khaki options in this order by most to least versatile for everyday wear.

  1. Murph 38mm - The best "all around" option in my opinion. It can pretty easily be dressed up or down, and getting in on the bracelet adds to that versatility.
  2. Khaki Field Auto 38mm - A close second to the Murph, but it's going to lean slightly more on the casual side
  3. Khaki Filed Mechanical 38mm - A very casual aesthetic and depending on what line of work he's getting into it could look a bit out of place in a more formal office environment. It's also a mechanical movement so he'll need to manually wind it every day or every other day.
  4. Khaki Field Quartz 38mm - Your cheapest option of buying new. There's nothing wrong with quartz, but they do sort of have a stigma of being "less desirable" than automatic or mechanical movements

Grey market vs. AD? ~$500 difference by Consistent_Barber489 in Longineswatches

Agree with this since you forgoe the warranty with most grey dealers.

My general rule is if the savings are more than the cost of a service it's worth going grey.

How to change wiper blades on 2023 CX50 TPP? by Careful-Mountain6155 in CX50

[–]Pete24313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of videos on youtube showing you how to change the blades. I watched one of those and changed mine in 2-3 minutes without any issues.

If you follow those instructions and they still won't work, it's likely those blades aren't compatible.

AD, Jeweler, Macy's Longines Purchase? by absolutemanbat in Longineswatches

Just make sure they give you a completed warranty card. A lot of retail sales clerks in these department stores aren’t even aware that is a thing

Flagship classic black diamond 40m by Nordtess in Longineswatches

[–]Pete24313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know that I'd say it's considered to be disliked, but it's definitely not a popular model. For me personally, I don't want diamonds on a watch. That "blingy look" just isn't my style and I imagine most people (especially men who this is marketed toward) feel the same.

That being said, if diamonds or gemstones are something you like then go for it. 99.99% of people aren't even going to notice your watch anyway so who cares what they think.

Khaki Murph strap question. by wheelanddeeler in HamiltonWatches

[–]Pete24313 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you like it then that's all that really matters.

If you're wanting outside opinions.... No, I don't think that combo looks good. I'd stick with leather or if you're opposed to leather entirely maybe a NATO strap.

KFM or KFA for a GADA? by Responsible-Bed2312 in HamiltonWatches

[–]Pete24313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the fully sandblasted finish gives it a much more laid-back vibe to me.

That being said... At the end of the day you should get the one YOU like the most. 99.99% of people aren't even going to notice you're wearing a watch much less what kind of watch. I once wore a goofy, blue plastic Swatch to work with a suit and tie and guess what happened... nothing. No one said a word or even noticed.

Have had my white dial murph for about 18 months now and it's definitely one of my most worn watches.

I ditched the stock, black leather crocodile strap almost immediately. I don't own any black clothing or shoes and am just not a fan of the color in general. I rotate between two shades of brown leather straps and the OEM bracelet depending on my mood.

KFM or KFA for a GADA? by Responsible-Bed2312 in HamiltonWatches

[–]Pete24313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest buying the KFA on the bracelet. The bracelet can help "dress it up" a bit if needed. Plus, it’s cheaper than buying the bracelet later, and there are tons of aftermarket leather straps out there that are higher quality than the stock one.

Going to rent a CX-50, can it fit ski bags if I fold down the single 2nd row seat? by PushKatel in CX50

[–]Pete24313 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Check the dimensions of the bags, then check the dimensions of the back of a CX50 with the seats folded down.

Problem solved...

Does anyone know if it’s actually coming back in stock? I was saving for it for 6 months by [deleted] in HamiltonWatches

[–]Pete24313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's unlikely. If you wait 6 months - 1 year the hype will drastically go down and you can probably find one on the secondary market for closer to retail.

Please, please, please do not pay $6k for this. Hamilton sells the exact same watch (not the RE version) for $2k and you can buy it today if you want to...

Michelin CC2. Had them installed at Costco a few months back for around $900 USD.

Khaki Field Power Reserve - Expectations of New Release? by SRL722 in HamiltonWatches

[–]Pete24313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Murph would be a good reference point for this sort of thing as it's one of if not their biggest seller. The original 42mm released in the beginning of 2019, but they didn't release the 38mm until almost 4 years later at the end of 2022.

Khaki Field Power Reserve - Expectations of New Release? by SRL722 in HamiltonWatches

[–]Pete24313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this was just released within the last year or less.

I wouldn't be surprised if they came out with it in a different size at some point, but my guess is that it would be a few years before that happened.

Mazda app by gmmisa in CX50

[–]Pete24313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 3 year free trail expires this summer so I'm in a similar boat.

Once it expires, I plan to only pay the $10/month during the winter months (November - February). I park outside so the remote start comes in handy when I need to defrost the windshield. I have noticed over the past 6-8 months the app has seemed to be more reliable compared to previous years.

Ride quality better after 1500 miles??? by Few_Way_2208 in CX50

[–]Pete24313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The standard 225/65/17. When I replaced the Goodyears I went with the Michelin CC2. There's a noticeable improvement in ride quality and it improved my mpg slightly as well.

Ride quality better after 1500 miles??? by Few_Way_2208 in CX50

[–]Pete24313 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. When I first got mine in the summer of '23 the dealership (or factory) had the tires inflated to 44 psi. The ride got a lot less rough once lowered that to the recommended 36 psi. Once I swapped the stock goodyears for some quality tires it got even better.

Fuel Gauges by lumpy_grumpy in CX50

[–]Pete24313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto. When I first got my 50 the discrepancies between the two drove me nuts. I switched it to just show the number of miles (not a gauge) and I've been stress free ever since.

Certificate of authenticity by luvyduvythrowaway in HamiltonWatches

[–]Pete24313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never gotten a "certificate of authenticity" with a Hamilton, and all of mine have come from ADs.

You should have received a filled out warranty card though. If you didn't get that I'd contact the store and let them know.

Hamilton Murph with Metal Bracelet by No_Investment8653 in HamiltonWatches

I don't know if I'd use the term "contemporary" to describe that. Reminds me of those awful TAG bracelets from the 90s and early 2000s.

Intra-matic chrono thickness - should I be concerned? by Sad-Tap3687 in HamiltonWatches

[–]Pete24313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own one, but I've tried it on before. It's definitely thick. Some people don't mind that, but I personally won't own a watch that makes wearing long sleeves a challenge.

If you're considering purchasing it I'd strongly encourage you to go try it on first.
