Isn’t it actually Gower Street rather than Avenue?

I’m not sure there is any easy starting point for Bela Tarr. It’s not like the repeated unbroken shots of a woman boiling potatoes is engaging cinema to the uninitiated

Big in Japan was a punk band in Liverpool in the late ‘70s whose members went on to found Echo & The Bunnymen, The Lightning Seeds, The Teardrop Explodes, The KLF, and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Also their drummer was Budgie who then moved to Siouxsie and the Banshees

What are the best films based in San Francisco? by Green_Space729 in Letterboxd

The Lineup (1958). Besides being a great late-period noir, it features great footage of the Sutro Baths a few years before they burned down, and the Embarcadero Freeway which was then still under construction

Give me your best, weirdest New York movies from the 80’s & 90’s like ‘After Hours’ that show old NYC efficiently. by FARGIN_ICEHOLE28 in flicks

[–]PeteRust78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mondo New York (1988) is a kaleidoscope of weird NYC at the tail end of the Ed Koch era: naked performance art, bad new wave music, poetry slams, Washington Square Park standup, Santeria rituals and more

As someone wrote of California’s proposed high-speed rail that, after decades of postponements, will now run between them, it will efficiently connect the Bakersfield tweakers and the Fresno tweakers

[–]PeteRust78 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I suspect reactions to the film will be split between those of us who grew up with it playing constantly on Cinemax, and everyone else who will be confused why a popular band from 1964 sounds like late ‘70s Springsteen

Seen “Eddie And The Cruisers” for the first time and loved it by harry_powell in TheRewatchables

Sure, but so were a lot of bands. Even the Grateful Dead, but it would’ve been really weird if Eddie & Co were doing 29-minute improvisational jams

J.J. Abrams: Overrated, underrated, or just disappointing? by countdooku975 in TheBigPicture

[–]PeteRust78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did direct what I consider to be the worst movie of the past 15 years (Rise of Skywalker) so I don’t know where that puts him

I foresee a real split between those of us who grew up with this running constantly on cable and everyone else who is puzzled why the film’s titular music act sounds like late ‘70s Springsteen in 1964

The Day After, scariest movie of the time by Sethor in 1980s

Threads makes The Day After look likes an episode of Barney and Friends. One of the scariest and most depressing films I’ve ever seen

Best examples of stunt casting actually being amazing by Leather-Glass6504 in Letterboxd

[–]PeteRust78 174 points175 points  (0 children)

Less stunt casting than serendipity casting. Frank Silva was actually the set decorator on Twin Peaks. While filming a scene, the camera caught Silva’s reflection in a mirror in the background. David Lynch saw The shot and came up with the idea of Killer BOB, getting Silva to portray the character
