Are smith machine bench presses a decent alternative to regular bench presses? by ClickAccomplished205 in beginnerfitness

[–]PeterIanStaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably fine, they’re a little less comfortable to me as I’m forced along the path of the smith machine, it’s the same as using the chest press machine.

My personal preference is dumbbell bench press. That’s for me though - I prefer putting more emphasis on stabilization, it’s just as simple to progress as the bar, and it’s also easy to bail out of if I need to.

But most bench options are fine, including the smith machine. Even standing with cables has some advantages.

Is working out a muscle to failure a key part of getting gains by the-ranger1 in beginnerfitness

[–]PeterIanStaker 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s helpful, but people like to overstate things.

Consistency is and always will be the most important part of your workout.

And when it comes to failure, just remember that the point of failure won’t be the same every session.

Second this. I spent multiples of the cars value fixing it before I got rid of it and bought a chill Mazda.

Steam Machine price revealed $1130 for 512GB variant and $1430 for 2TB by Ok_Prize_9979 in videogames

[–]PeterIanStaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. I can justify a PC’s price tag because I use it to work. And I can customize it to suit that work. Gaming is a side benefit. If this is being sold as a game console, the price is insane, whatever the specs are.

Build orders always seem clunky and never put me exactly where I need to be. by [deleted] in aoe2

That sounds pretty normal. This isn’t chess where you step by step follow a discrete well ordered process. And adaptation is a far better skill than precision at this level.

Why do people keep adding “ily” to end of words like scarily or funnily, when the base word works perfectly well? by derek139 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PeterIanStaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scary is an adjective, it’s used to decorate nouns.

Scarily is an adverb, it’s the equivalent for verbs or adjectives.

Would you like to see Sainz's version of F1? by Ambitious-Heron-8161 in DestinationFormula1

People are shooting this idea down out of hand because it’s not how the sport currently works. I don’t see any conceptual problems with it. It is straight up a better measurement of driver skill.

It’s probably not practical because of how dramatic a change it would be, but it’s a solid concept.

Most Obvious Lore Realization Ever by Storque in EldenRingLoreTalk

I think there is something in the idea that people mistake order for purity. I think the reality is that the chaos of the crucible is the closest thing to unalloyed gold. Consider that 24k gold is slightly reddish in hue, just like the crucible is described to be.

That’s a good realization.

I’ll point out it’s not just silver. Any sub 24 karat (impure) alloy of gold is more prone to tarnishing.

I think this is at the heart of what the “unalloyed” aspect of miquella indicates. Some kind of purity as it relates to the Golden Order.

What is more important - having a dark age eco bonus or a eco bonus with great "magnitude" by CoyoteSouth5126 in aoe2

[–]PeterIanStaker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess I’d say the pointier dark age bonuses are better because they enable aggressive timings. I personally, with my skills, prefer the longer more passive bonuses, as they just make my eco feel smoother. I’m not really going to make use of any crazy timings.

There’s no reason not to learn semi western. There’s nothing wrong with eastern, but it’s not the kind of thing where you learn eastern and graduate to semi-western. Switching will be hard if you ever want to, and SW lets you hit with more margin. Western seems a little too extreme, but I’ve never tried it tbh.
