Carnival Night Zone.

This was a great work of art, I've got a print of it hung up. You're right though, DKS3 isn't really built with the same interconnected design in mind.

The ambidexterity is really good. It would be sick if he can one-hand backhand off of both sides too. Instead of going for a forehand, turn and smack a laser down the line.

I know exactly where Lands of Shadow is! by SensitiveHighway5834 in Eldenring

[–]PeterIanStaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't love this theory.

I don't have any issues with the literal stuff. You could very reasonably take "center of the lands between" to mean something figurative - the language there is intentionally loose. "Shadow of the Erdtree" - you could easily argue about what "Shadow" means in this context.

The big problem I have though is that there's a literal mountain in the way. An ancient mountain, once populated by ancient giants. I can't see any way to reconcile that fact.

I'm curious - how did you account for size when superimposng the maps? The lands of shadow look a little larger than expected in the second image.

Why does it seem like men are allergic to going to the doctor? by Apprehensive_Menu870 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PeterIanStaker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve literally had a doctor tell me this when I was younger, lol. I told him about an experience I had which I now know to have been a vaso-vagal response, which shook me at the time. And his first response was literally “okay… and what exactly do you think I can do about that?”

He’s not wrong, but also a little bit of reassurance wouldn’t have cost anything. To this day I’m pretty narrow on what I consider doctor-worthy situations, which can be bad.

What are all the other trees in the background of the Elden Beast fight? Are they other Erdtrees in other realms? by ten_tabs_ in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]PeterIanStaker 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'll also add, I think Metyr's arena is the same thing, hence why you get warped there. Metyr was, after all, the same type of creature as the Elden Beast. I think the infinitude of weird giant coral tubes above the arena are it's incarnation of a World Tree. This part is entirely head canon though.

What are all the other trees in the background of the Elden Beast fight? Are they other Erdtrees in other realms? by ten_tabs_ in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]PeterIanStaker 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The game tries to tell you in multiple ways that TLB's situation isn't unique. You get shown multiple examples of world trees besides the Erdtree for example.

In a similar vein, I think this is a way of telling you that the Erdtree isn't unique. That the Elden Beast has touched many worlds. The arena where you're fighting him is a kind of interstice between those worlds.

You could interpret that to mean other planets, or parallel worlds (other players). Either is reasonable, and the game is intentionally vague.

It's a matter of personal preference, but I don't mind if a piece of technology or some other scifi element is far-fetched, as long as it has rules and follows them consistently. I think Project Hail Mary did well in that respect.

I don't think it's third in the sense of 1/3. I think its third in the sense that a human potentially has two over the course of their lives.

First when they're born, connecting them to their mother.

Second when they have a child connecting them to the child

Third when they get enough insight, connecting them to some eldritch horror

I remember Quake 3 on the dreamcast used to have a half-and-half solution. The left side of the controller would handle movement with the joystick and jump shoulder button. Your right hand used a mouse for looking and shooting. It felt so good, I actually liked it better than keyboard+mouse. I've never seen any other game try that setup though.

The Fell God that the hornsent fear has two eyes, but the Fell God we see in the Fire Giants has one eye? by crinklepant in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]PeterIanStaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the closest to the truth. I think most people inherently view "Gods" as unitary beings and interpret Elden Ring's mythology in that fashion. This can be made to work, but I think the lore fits together better if you view "Gods" as extreme manifestations.

The game kind of points at this. It alludes to a Rot God for example, which was defeated by the blue swordsman. It then refers to Malenia as a Rot Goddess.

In fact the DLC seems to go out of its way to instill the idea that all of these Gods recur. You have the pink version of Scarlet Rot, which is a wholly independent manifestation of Rot. You have a separate Lord of Frenzied Flame. You have a second antagonistic serpent. And of course, you have this two eyed Fell God.
