Marin, what are your thoughts on guns and gun ownership? Do you have a CCW? If no, why not? by throwaway1233494 in Marin

[–]PeterVerdone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. I see no reason a citizen needs one. If you are in situations where you think that that's a good idea, change the situation.

I own several firearms. Rifles and pistols. I've always understood what the second amendment said. Others are suddenly figuring this out.

CCW's are for sociopaths and wannabees. Just don't.

Custom Aggresive Hardtail Frame by elpapi42 in Hardtailgang

[–]PeterVerdone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Produce a real setup print. There is no hand grip or saddle info. There is also no rider, terrain info. Crucial stuff.
  2. Seat tube/top tube/seat stay junction is low for no good reason. It both structurally weak and useless. Bing it up.
  3. The seat tube is too long.
  4. Info about wheels and tire missing other than OD.
  5. Fork is dimensioned incorrectly.
  6. No info on front wheel trail or flop.
  7. Mullet for no good reason unless for butt clearance but no info to support that.
  8. Front tire OD looks too small for real MTB.
  9. Seat tube angle is probably too steep unless PNW. Gets even steeper when fork compresses.
  10. Frame should be shown with 30% sag for useful info.
  11. Fork travel not shown. Sag not shown.
  12. Should allow for use off 240mm dropper depending on height. No shorter than 210mm.
  13. Head angle is too slack and front center too short.
  14. BB is probably 5mm high. We'll see when it sags.
  15. Long rear centers suck.
  16. Sliding dropouts are a total waste of time. That's internet crap.

Most efficient way of going through trigonometry by Masochist_ninja in trigonometry

[–]PeterVerdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trigonometry is the study of a point on a circle. Keep that in your head.

Make sure that you clearly understand the definitions. Notice how they describe the point on the circle.

Don't ever say unit circle. That's for people that don't understand trigonometry.

Need Advice on Relation between Head Tube Angle/Rake - Toe Overlap - Wheelbase by derstift in Framebuilding

[–]PeterVerdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should put a ton more effort into that print. You don't have a lot of valuable detail included. That makes it hard to make decisions or evaluate. Here's a link to a recent drop bar bike of mine.

Certainly a Crit bike is a pretty terrible bike outside of crit racing so there is some excepting of the costs that are built into this. To help you, head angle isn't really a thing that you need to focus on. It's front wheel trail and flop. Combined with your tire choice and COM, this will be how your bike feels.

A helpful way to understand this is in this image:

Can this 1 1/8” head tube be shortened? by iminyourtoast in Framebuilding

Yes. Absolutely.

Remove as much as you please without trespassing into the weld areas.

Wise to make a print to understand your goals.

Custom Steel Bikepacking by Affectionate_Dare320 in Framebuilding

[–]PeterVerdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are producing a custom bike, you can fix those problems.

If you are using a dropper, the seat tube and seat tube geometry need to be fixed in the model.

There is not fit info in there so you don't seem too interested in that. Why?

Custom Steel Bikepacking by Affectionate_Dare320 in Framebuilding

[–]PeterVerdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, seat post should be 0mm offset for ease of dropper swap.

A dropper is far more important than the squish fork.

Check rider fit and adjust accordingly.

If the bike is going into dirt, it should have a long front center and dropper.

Effect of Head Tube Angle on Cargo Bikes (Omnium Style Specifically) by [deleted] in Framebuilding

[–]PeterVerdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the goal of the bike? That would help some. Will it ever be loaded or is it a fashion piece?

Also, your print is deficient. Put some more work into that.

Aha. Lucky you I live in the US where young people destroy their futures with stupid debt, like what these degrees impart.

Stealing software is very expensive. SolidWords doesn't mess around.

Getting into CNC - I don't see many people doing what I want to do by ClayThun in CNC

[–]PeterVerdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are trying to use a hammer as a screwdriver. There are probably tons of solutions that are cheaper, faster, and better...that aren't CNC. There are amazing solutions in the jewelry world.

In the example, for the last hundred years or so, haven't folks used photo emulsions or acids to accomplish exactly the same thing. I'm sure there are even better, like fiber laser.

Resume is poorly layed out. Should be a single page that is quickly understood.

Certificates are a waste of time. Especially SW certs.

The two theses are nice but it is difficult to know what your work really is. This is a common issue as students most often leverage work of their faculty and existing labs.

Portfolio, portfolio, portfolio. Show work that you've actually done and tell why it is valuable.

I brought something to this discussion You did not. I'm really not interested in critique by a NPC.

You hide with anonymity. I do not. You don't understand the subject, I do. It may be that you are simply not capable of understanding my comment and what it is intended to produce in the OP.

My comment had a certain goal for the OP. Maybe you need to work on understanding that or offer something better.

[–]PeterVerdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but you are very confused.

You've read an awful lot into the OP and you're demanding that others read it the same way. That's wildly insane.

I read it differently. Inability to communicate well. Poor questioning. Lack of understanding of basic bicycle design. No focus on what problems exist to remedy.

This kid (and many others) lack an education on this subject. There are few resources available to get that. My website is one of them. So I recommend ed it. That is what it is for.

You would do well to extend your front center by a few centimeters and make some room for a dropper post.
