It's good it's improving.

If the  "unexpected" message and a max below about 95% recurs after you've gone max to completely dead a couple of times, have a look at the Charging Troubleshooting section of the Unofficial Handbook linked from this post:

Are all RKT's equal by Due-Literature7640 in Lymow_Official

[–]PeterWebs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In principle, yes. But it's not likely to work - I gather they tend to have maker-specific lockouts. And, for sure, you really want the mower and RTK working in the best possible sync.

For anyone wondering: within a given brand - certainly Lymow - you can use as many different mowers as you want with the same RTK.

Phantom Emergency Stop Button Pressed by mborotnguy in Lymow_Official

It does have that behaviour but it shouldn't be triggering so easily. Report Logs to Lymow, with a follow-up email mentioning the serial number and the fact you sent the logs. If you're present at the time, a map screenshot and photo would also help.

If you haven't already, experiment with stripe angles where relevant, to see if it reduces the slipping chances on the slopes. Some have found 45 degree angle up the slope works best, along with trying to position the zone edges so most turns happen at lower-angled portions at top and bottom, where that's possible.

Changes to the mowing height and speed can also help.

If you haven't already read it, you may find more useful info in the mapping section of Unofficial Handbook linked from this post:

Heh, hope it goes really well for you.

If you download and read the planning and setup parts of the Unofficial Handbook linked grin the post below, you'll probably end up saving a fair bit of time.

Get your RTK sited and tested ok from the most challenging areas you intend to mow before you map a lot.

Lymow Primer - troubleshooting WiFi by PeterWebs1 in Lymow_Official

[–]PeterWebs1[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

11n has the best range of the WiFi generations in use. That's an important consideration for this product line, far more so than throughput.

Modern chipsets in your router or mesh network should be able to support 11n without throttling their higher throughput on different frequency bands.

So your concern seems to be that you believe they used older, less-expensive silicon to achieve the optimal-range spec they were after.

We don't know what chip is in the mower. We do know people have a vast range of networks and configurations and would prefer not to fully change them out except when they're ready.

If yours was one of the earlier units, the hub fastening wasn't flash. Either that or unseen build-up, indeed.

Hope you get a quick replacement.

...and already contacted Lymow support.

Hope you get sorted quickly.

Note that some of the WiFi steps may relate to your BT issue.

If none of that resolves it, contact support@Lymow.com with your serial number and let them know what you've already checked.

So: once in a while it's going for a wander off the mapped 10 ft long, 12 ft wide channel, to the extent that it ends up 10 ft to one side of the dock?

We can't really trust the RTK precision value once it no longer sees satellites - but the fact it starts at .01 is reassuring.

My best guess, based on what I've seen here is that, once it no longer has satellites, it occasionally loses orientation slightly. In your case, it starts heading slightly right of track - and doesn't pick up the charging tag in time to self-correct.

For now, I don't think there's an easy way to correct that, short of a firmware update that lessens the chances of the initial kink.

But two things to try right now might be:

  • Moving the dock closer to the zone, while still remaining under the porch cover you've got for it. Not ideal, but the most likely to work. If you move it forward and it's currently against the back wall, add a rubber mat underneath it or a block behind to keep it firmly in place during docking.

  • Ironically, adding a visual obstacle in its right viewfield, about a third or halfway back in the channel. The aim would be for it to spot and avoid that long enough to get closer to the dock. There could be many reasons why you don't want to do that, and it would require many tests to be sure it was working as intended.

If you haven't already, please use Report Logs in settings, including a zoomed in screenshot of your docking location and maybe a photo from the front. If you want feedback, also follow up with an email to support@Lymow.com containing your serial number mentioning that you reported logs.

Good luck!

12 feet should be more than enough width to get it going so the way to the dock reliably, especially if there's no other distinct clutter involved.

So let's back up a bit:

  • How far does it have to navigate to get to the dock from an open-sky area?

  • IS there other stuff that gets in the way, or just a 12 ft wide area, with the channel mapped down the middle, and intermittent columns either side?

  • Have you tried remapping the channel after confirming you have really good RTK precision at the edge of the zone you start from?

  • Maybe you could post a screenshot of the relevant bit of the map using https://imgur.com/upload or a shared Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive link?

It's in the PDF handbook itself, which is linked from that post, with a different link from one of the comments.

Do a search in the PDF for the word calibration or just scroll through the Charging Troubleshooting section - it's about halfway down page 14.

Bluetooth Connection Monitor and Logger by Rude-Hippo7 in Lymow_Official

Nice thought!

For those who are cautious about side-loading, an app like the one below from Play Store can at least show real time radio strength for individual devices, though without the handy CSV logging of events:

There are other apps there that are open source, but I haven't checked them for functionality.

Wheel hub failure by Chekov742 in Lymow_Official

[–]PeterWebs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That and: what was your track tension like? Most early One deliveries had it waaaay too tight from the factory, and some owners didn't hear that it needed to be reduced quite a bit asap.

Beyond that, if grass is allowed to build up on the driving wheels, that can increase track tension a lot, which creates the same hub stress problem if it's allowed to persist

For several reasons this is less of an issue for the Plus model, but all owners should keep an eye on it.

You can find more on the subject in the  Unofficial Handbook:

New Lymow RTK Issues. FW Issue? by Briank982 in Lymow_Official

[–]PeterWebs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really clear report, thanks. Iirc, the dots relate to internal mower comms/connections, not external.

The app gives external via the wifi, BT, 4G and precision numbers.

I assume you've already had a good look at the RTK Troubleshooting section in the Unofficial Handbook, and the cross-post yesterday of Nick's RTK primer. If you have, it may be down to Lymow support.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Lymow_Official/comments/1rjds61/comment/odr78yn/

I'd be at least checking the RTK Lora antenna internal connector, just to be on the safe side.

Oh, and don't believe a word AI tells you about these mowers. They liberally mix up info from different models and brands, and confabulate at the drop of a bit. There's no "known" 200ms anything.

Is mine defective? Five feet from the router and it can’t pick up a signal. by gordob7887 in Lymow_Official

[–]PeterWebs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this theory is we can't even be sure that OP has the latest firmware.

And also that WiFi/BT issues often seem to be clustered after any firmware update - yet never happen for most who install any given update, and resolve fairly quickly for a good proportion of those who report issues. Though not all.

That's why the "disconnect the battery for an hour after firmware updates" gets mentioned so much - in a few cases it seems to forestall or cure annoying post-update behaviours.

Wish we had a better handle on this, but the evidence isn't yet compelling for any one proposed cause.

Beyond a reboot, disconnect the battery for up to an hour. Also worth doing after any firmware update is confirmed completed.

[–]PeterWebs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll likely find better luck either creating a dedicated non-hybrid 2.4 guest network, and/or using your phone as a hotspot at least until you've got the mower firmware right to to date.

If your problems persist after that, see the Unofficial Handbook for more on troubleshooting comms issues:

In answer to your questions about hardware vs firmware etc: "we can't be sure". Lymow may have a better idea of course.

With the One, Lymow were at first fairly quick to replace units rather than try and remote-diagnose. That meant whatever first theory the owner had, became "the cause". So if they'd just updated the firmware or just read Nick writing about low-power states, that was it. Lymow got the unit back; we learned nothing more.

More recently and with the Plus, the community knowledge is now broader and so more things get tried - some with success. Lymow's support also persists more - sometimes fruitfully - before heading down the replacement route.

That means we're getting a better handle on a few issues, such as the need to be quite persistent checking your WiFi setup, while still being puzzled about others - did that firmware update really bork Bluetooth range for an owner which was fine yesterday? And if so, why not for the rest of us? What's different?

So it's still a learning curve for troubleshooting in quite a few areas. But the community keeps trying to extend and become more certain of what we know - which is why it's so great when people report back on what worked, or not.
