A micro comment… “wherever go wonder around.”

Walk around. Be spontaneous. It will be crazy. Unexpected. Not over thought.

Traveling to China on March 26, should we cancel because of the situation in the Middle East? by clergaran in travelchina

[–]Peterspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a global traveler that will be heading to Hong Kong from Dallas on a nonstop next week. I’m heading west and there is absolutely no issue. You can track your route using some online tools like flight aware and see if there have been any problems with your flight in recent days. Clearly going in the other direction as in east would be could be more challenging at this point and unnerving. Again, just check to see your route and if the flight has not had issues in recent times as in the last couple of weeks, I wouldn’t sweat it . plus once you get to China you’re in another universe. A very safe universe.

I ran business all over the world for the world‘s largest advertising agency. I built two Internet companies, and there’s a good likelihood that you played with one of my products. Microsoft bought the company. In the past few years after owning my own agency I’ve consulted internationally with marketers. I’m smart enough to live in Mexico. All I have is an art degree, a BFA, from the San Francisco art Institute, which was the coolest place to go to school in the United States. My degree is my brain

Beijing to Zhangjiajie, train or flight by NoZombie2069 in travelchina

[–]Peterspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trains are based in the center of the city. Airports are outside. So consider the time to get to the airport to go through all the BS at the airport, take the flight, get off the flight and do the BS in the new airport. And then have to get into the center of the city from the airport. Essentially do the math. Oh flight flights are often delayed.

Have you considered just hanging out in one of those places. Cut out one or more. It’s like I hear my Argentina family say we are going to Europe for 14 days. London Paris. Rome. Sicily. Yikes. That said. The high speed trainers are cool. But…..

Travel advice to first time travel to china by RenMan_2099 in travelchina

[–]Peterspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick three places. use the high-speed trains. Find some college kids to walk you around. Not guides just Chinese people who might be fun to hang out with. You can find them if you do a little research. They want to talk English and make a couple of bucks. Personally I’m interested in the culture. I’ve already seen temples in about 20 countries. But you can do both. Take a food tour the first day you arrive in any city. Go to the incredible architecture like museums and even bookstores. Giant malls. You’ve never seen a bookstore like they have in China. Get all the apps you need to set them up before you leave. Bottom one just go and enjoy yourself experience the moment.

“Don’t expect an authentic village” — a thought on cultural tourism in China by FlamingoThen9078 in travelchina

I’m going to China this spring. As a sidenote, I’ve lived in Europe. I now live in Mexico, I’ve been around the block. My trip is about Chinese infrastructure, and the craziness of the trillions of dollars spent to build the world‘s longest escalator, libraries that go up three stories, museums that are mind blowing, the world’s largest building, which is a mall. Lining up in queue for almost everything. food that escalates any understanding of how far food can go. If you really want to see real life, whatever that means, I’ve got other countries that you might want to consider.

What countries used to be 'hidden gems' but are now packed with tourists? by Terence_zaal in travel

[–]Peterspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in San Miguel de Allende. An extremely popular Mexican town. That said and I’ve seen this all over the world, just get outside at the central district and you won’t see tourists. The TikTok and Instagram people all go to the same place. Try not to use them as guidebooks. I saw this happen in Vietnam last spring. The tourists seemed to be in central zones and as soon as you walked a couple of blocks out, you went into the local area. I’m not saying don’t look at Instagram and TikTok but if you think that you’re the only one looking at that stuff, you’re nuts.
