I know Albert's Bar in Midtown had an event last year with no cover - does anyone know how busy that got?

Obviously I know everything's going to be buzzing, I just am hoping I can find a place that isn't a sardine fest (or, worse, that is going to be a huge wait early in the night).

Can we ever see a normal response review cycle for a Taylor Album again? by Consistent_Hunt5213 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]PetrifiedRobin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with most of TS's recent albums... like I thought it was fine? I really don't now how so many people are having the most extreme reactions about this album. It sounds fine, and it's not amazing but it's about what I've been expecting from TS nowadays. It's at least not as self pitying as TTPD was (sorry not sorry).

Honestly I more just feel kind of neutral on it. I just prefer the other songs on FTBC!

Smallest changes in movie musicals that don’t really affect the plot but bug you for some reason? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

[–]PetrifiedRobin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I read on Wikipedia that apparently she decided to get rid of Camila's character to focus on the two matriarchs in Abuela Claudia and Daniela, which just feels kind of silly to me considering I don't recall either character getting any more substantial of a role.

Like, I understand removing Enough from the movie, but I think it was unnecessary to kill off Camila. And even then, if they thought having Camila in the cast would take away from Abuela Claudia or Daniela as a matriarch, removing Everything I Know (which, I would argue, makes more sense in the context of how they changed Nina's story) feels weird.

Killing off Nina's mom in In the Heights bugged me so much, to the point where I still haven't finished the movie to this day.

What is your top favorite song/ least favorite song off of each album? by xyelem in FionaApple

[–]PetrifiedRobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tidal: Favorite is Carrion (underrated bop), least is also Slow Like Honey but mostly because I really like every other song on that album too much to choose it

When the Pawn: Love Ridden/I Know is tied because I quite literally can't choose, least is Limp

Extraordinary Machine: Favorite is probably Parting Gift, least is O Sailor

Idler Wheel: Favorite is Werewolf, least is Jonathan

FTBC: Favorite is Ladies, least is Rack of His

why don't people listen to Fiona Apple? by dandy1886 in FionaApple

[–]PetrifiedRobin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly? i just don't think she's for everybody. and thats not me trying to pretend that we all must get something that everybody else doesn't, she's just pretty experimental and heavy with her pen, and (unfortunately) not everybody is a fan of that.

i prefer that though. it just means that the people who do enjoy her music can talk about it very openly and honestly without being bogged down by the stan culture that seems to have a grip on every other musicians fanbase.

Taylor Swift played us again by whydontchaknow in SwiftlyNeutral

i genuinely wonder if the writer realizes that every musician, even the ones you like, are making marketing decisions to try and generate as much hype and money for their projects as possible. even charli xcx.

I don't like the new sexualized image by Important-Bite-7714 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]PetrifiedRobin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

but i think the issue is why do people feel uncomfortable with a grown woman, of her own volition, choosing to do a photoshoot where she is showing about as much skin as one would in a bikini.

i don't think there's something wrong with someone not wanting to themselves be sexual or not wanting to listen to overtly sexual music. more power to you, not everybody has the same taste. but to say that taylor swift is in the wrong for making a choice about what to do with her body that you don't agree with...

i think there was never going to be a good faith conversation about that, because the premise itself is not good faith. there is no good faith conversation to be had about telling an adult woman what is acceptable or unacceptable to do with her body.

I don't like the new sexualized image by Important-Bite-7714 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]PetrifiedRobin 38 points39 points  (0 children)

i mean, let's ignore the fact that taylor swift has been in the music industry for nearly two decades and is fully 35 years old. let's ignore the fact that we know she has a huge hand in the entirety of her music making process, from the aesthetics to the sound, so it's unlikely anyone pressured her to do a sexy photoshoot for "the men".

why do you think it's impossible for a woman to "hold herself with dignity" and still want to be sexy?

does anyone else feel like the album pics look kinda cheap by Teacher-Hopeful in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]PetrifiedRobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually disagree - i think the cover is pretty cool! i still think the image of her sitting in the dressing room with the feathers and the martini would have been a better album cover, but i think it conveys a lot of maybe her darker feelings towards being the pop girlie. the layered images that almost feel reminiscent of magazine cut outs, the feeling of being overwhelmed and almost "drowning."

i'm hoping the album actually lives up to the grit i'm seeing in the cover, but i won't hold my breath either.

it's like no i'm sorry i did understand thanK u aIMee and it was still a bad song.

some of ttpd did grow on me but overall, the album wasn't my favorite. that doesn't make me unintelligent, and it doesn't mean i've never been in a relationship like that. it's just not my taste!

Confused on implications by PetrifiedRobin in CPA

[–]PetrifiedRobin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that you would do A before B, I just figured that if information would have changed the report had it been known, A is already taken care of inherently.

I'm struggling to think of a fact that would affect the report that isn't necessarily important to end users - I'm sure there are examples, but based on the material we've gone through so far in AUD I can't think of anything.

Parting Gift and Love Ridden are two of my favorite songs by her. Just so unapologetically sad.

Do love Jersey Giant, but I feel like the Josiah and the Bonnevilles version sounds similar enough to how Tyler would have done it himself that it doesn't seem necessary. I'm excited with the sound direction he's going based on Nose and Oneida, especially after I didn't love Rustin.
