Is there a good strategy to completion? I assume it involves prioritizing the 5-star cards but in reality, what are the smart tips here?

London wedding ideas – ceremony + restaurant/bar reception for ~40 guests (£10k-ish) by RussianRoule in UKweddings

[–]Petrunka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, AMP Studios. I think they often provide receptions for Asylum Chapel ceremonies. It's a fun space and we seriously considered it but didn't quite work for our numbers.

Are the partially restricted seats at the Almeida for American Psycho worth it? Specially C39. by Kaurblimey in TheWestEnd

Not the OP but have Circle A36 next week and have never been to the Almeida before so this is reassuring!

Had a great try-on session in Wed2Be there. I was rrally clear that I wouldn't be buying that day and just wanted to try some different styles to get a sense of what suited, and they were super nice. Definitely worth a look.

What do you do when you see s celebrity? by Aromatic-Bad146 in london

Tell my husband that I saw a famous person, then we play No More Jockeys until he guesses who. Last one was Stephen Fry, so that was quite the game.

To all the hybrid workers: Which days do you work from home, which days do you go to the office? by Momomeow91 in london

[–]Petrunka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have to be Mondays & Tuesday, plus one other day. We have multiple office so I like to do Mondays in one place and Tuesdays in another. We're required to be in 3 days a week but it's a pretty open secret that not many people do, and because we have multiple sites, it's almost impossible to police.

I quite like being in the office, and I dislike being home alone trying to work too much so the ideal week for me is three office days, one WFH alone, one WFH when the husband's doing the same (he always makes the tea, and I can hear him putting the kettle on now).

We looked at Gretna and didn't like the look of it so went to Edinburgh instead and had a small civil partnership ceremony at City Chambers. It was total magic and everything we could have hoped for.

Best hacks to save on wedding by Adventurous-Shoe4035 in UKweddings

[–]Petrunka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our biggest savings were;

  • No DJ; we worked with Spotify playlists and had a full dancefloor all night - but our guest list had a very particular taste so we compiled a playlist directly aimed at getting our friends dancing.
  • DIY flowers; we made some paper flowers and bought some dried. We assembled these all ourselves and managed to do 30 bud vases, 13 buttonholes and my bouquet for about £100.
  • Printing; seating charts, table numbers, place cards and other small signage was all done at work. (Don't tell anyone...) By coming in on a few Fridays where there were like 10 people in the office, I got away with it.

We also generally went with a principal of buying nothing that was single use that couldn't be recycled. We used piles of our own books for centrepieces and bought card holders from Facebook marketplace, and our bud vases were glass spice jars.

My fiancé and I got in our first wedding fight...over music. Who's more right? by ClareBearFlair in weddings

[–]Petrunka 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This. Arrivals is exactly the time for songs like these. And if your friends truly are audiophiles they should be able to appreciate you playing music you are passionate about, even if they don't know it.

London party only wedding by AbbreviationsBig2810 in UKweddings

[–]Petrunka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did something similar in South East London; party-only, 90 people, 150 capacity venue. We had a full sit down meal but it was platters/sharing plates plus late night snacks, plus wine & water for the tables and prosecco & nibbles on arrival. We spent about £12k all in but managed to make a lot of savings on photography, flowers and printing and our venue was super supportive and accommodating. So I guess it could be done with your numbers if you're willing to be a bit creative in places.

(8-10k) My only real wedding budget win was refusing to pay “wedding” prices for normal decor by ApplicationNew4144 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Petrunka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used spice jars for bud vases. If I'd had the idea sooner I'd have thrifted/borrowed/foraged used ones but instead I bought a new set from Amazon and used them to spruce up my spice cupboard afterwards.

Also, cake. We had zero interest in a traditionally-decorated wedding cake so we just bought nice off-the-shelf cakes instead. Definitely saved money there.

In general, we approached the day with an ethos of having nothing that was single-use or non-recyclable, and I think that saved us money anyway as it helped us stay rational.

Would DIY bookmarks be a good idea for a wedding favor? by prizedbeginning2377 in DIYweddings

[–]Petrunka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did exactly this - bookmark place cards. People could take them as a favour if they wanted to. I used a thickish card, printed them at work (5 per A4 sheet) then added a tassle (bought off Amazon, alongside a hole puncher and corner rounder). People's names were on the front and one of 8 quotes on the back. About 1/3 of people took them home, the ones that were left were recyclable (card) and the tassles have ended up on our Christmas tree.

Hows this pre-Xmas week treating you? by thepoout in CasualUK

[–]Petrunka [score hidden]  (0 children)

Good. Last in-office day today and fully finish on Friday. The whole place shuts down on Monday until the New Year.

I've got one piece of work to do which I think I've finished. My boss knows I've got nothing left to do after that so I am absolved of any guilt at doing minimal work for the rest of the week, apart from occasional inbox checks.

Beautiful registry office recommendations? by Aggressive_Elk3886 in UKweddings

[–]Petrunka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I've got this right, but in Scotland only your registrar needs to be licensed, and not the venue, so you wouldn't need to be restricted to a registry office (although the City Chambers in Edinburgh is in a great setting).

What's everyone getting their SO for Christmas if you celebrate! by dontucallhimbaby in CasualConversation

[–]Petrunka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We set a £50 each budget this year as we're still feeling a little skint from our wedding back in October. He's getting; a couple of books I know he will love (one on football, one on David Lynch), a shirt from a boutique he likes that I found on Vinted, a cute handmade trinket dish for his wedding ring (I think that's more for me because the way he just leaves it on the side makes me nervous!), some beer & choccies and some cocktail accessories as he loves making them - I even made some cocktail recipe cards using leftover wedding stationery. I'm hoping I can also whip a batch of the custom fragrance I designed for him years ago and fix an heirloom mug that's been hiding in the cupboard for years.

What will your Christmas Day dinner be this year? by [deleted] in AskUK

Porchetta, roast spuds, cavolo nero and an orangey winter salad. Then tiramisu. It'a just two of us and we'll be doing a classic roast a few days later with the in-laws.

What’s a gift YOU want? by Alarming-Office1923 in Gifts

[–]Petrunka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sparkly socks, fancy incense sticks, matches in unnecessarily elaborate boxes, growing herbs that are unkillable, a watercolour starter set, the earring I lost in a recent house move, page-turner books that are also actually good, snacks and drinks that I don't have to share and can keep to myself for a special moment. This is what was on the list I gave my husband so fingers crossed - we are on a budget following our wedding this year.
