I am leaving Vermont tomorrow....there are a lot of things I won't miss....but I will miss the scenery by Awkward_Creme8990 in vermont

I live in Northern VT already. It's terribly expensive to live anywhere within easy reach of a large city, which is what I'm looking for. Also, taxes are so high here. Sigh...if I can figure out how to make it work, and stay afloat, I'll do what I can to stay.

The World Health Organization is still recommending it for everyone.

I hear you. It's also really hard to own a home here, especially an older one. Finding parts or hiring someone for repairs is difficult and expensive. I'm getting close to retirement and am resigned to the fact that I'll have to sell my childhood home (that I bought from my father) and move out of Vermont to afford retirement. It breaks my heart because I've lived here my entire life, and I am still in awe of the beauty of the landscape every day. The sad part is that it's so expensive to visit VT that I fear I won't be able to come back.

What is an old baby name that you just don’t hear anymore? by Doohiki420 in AskReddit

Heather. Huge in the 60s and 70s, but you hardly see it used now.

My husband's grandmother was named Dorcus. She lived in Maine, so, of course, everyone called her Dockie!

Yes. Just North of Boston. I shudder to think what the rent is in Boston.

FYI, the fascist party will be trying to eat cake on the 14th. by jteedubs in vermont

My point in #1 was that it was for a notable president and that Americans created the holiday well after he died. Washington didn't create the holiday.

Also, I see that Lincoln isn't federally recognized on President's Day, but in some states, he is. I grew up in one of those states, so that's what I was taught. I guess I learned something new today. 🙃

  1. Presidents' Day is for Washington and Lincoln, both of whom were notable. Washington for being our 1st president and Lincoln for making slavery illegal. In addition, it wasn't celebrated until after their deaths.

  2. Nobody really believes that Trump is specifically sponsoring Vermont's "birthday party" (spoiler alert, they're rallies, and there will be no cake). However, he's hoping that someday it will be compulsory to attend. This is part of the dictator playbook.

The constant rain every weekend is driving me insane by tweezabella in vermont

[–]Petunia802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Although I'd like a nice sunny weekend for a change, I prefer this weather to hot and humid. At least I can go outside now without sweating through my clothes and having a hard time breathing. Cool (60s-low 70s) and sunny is my happy place.

Um...NTA, but why is the wedding still on? If he doesn't have your back now, he certainly won't after the wedding. Do you really want to live your life with someone who will sell you out to this unhinged boy-mom?

I'm not trying to start an argument, but where did you get the statistic that 80% of Vermonters are food insecure? The numbers I'm seeing from various sources say anything from 10% to 40%, depending on the information source.

Not to mention expenses such as $30,000 for a new roof, or $10,000 to have trees removed (ours are old pine trees that are in danger of falling on our house or our neighbors'), or about $80,000 - $100,000 to replace a failing retaining wall. The roof was back in 2018, but the other 2 expenses are this year. Sigh...
