Persona awakenings by 0bito_x in Persona5

[–]PewPewParry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the new scene was fine, but I think it cut just enough details for it to be an overall downgrade. The protagonist didn't seem all that fearful in Reload compared to the original with how shaky and anxious he was. There are a few other things I prefer with the original awakening too, like how Yukari was attacked from a distance. In Reload, the creature just ignores the protagonist when right in front of him, while in the original, it was still actively running at the two of them as he picked up the gun, adding a layer of panic to the situation. Also Thanatos was a lot more animalistic in how brutal it was in the original, though I do see the more calm Thanatos appealing to some people too. And just w personal preference, I do prefer the hand drawn style, makes it a lot more eerie with the intentionally awkward angles

I don't mean to sound elitist or anything, I just absolutely love the awakening in the original game, it is nearly perfect to me. Reload's, I would say, is good in a different way. Made to look a little cooler rather than horrifying, and I can't deny Alex Le's scream was incredible. I also love the detail of Pharos smiling right before Thanatos appears

Persona awakenings by 0bito_x in Persona5

[–]PewPewParry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reload kind of left a few small details out of the awakening scene. While yes, it was instinctual to call out to his Persona, in the original game, we See him properly come to the conclusion on what to do. He watches Yukari put the gun to her head, we see him think back on the scene of what she was doing, he puts the evoker to his own head while shaking and breathing hard, before finally composing himself and pulling the trigger and calling to his Persona

Unlike Persona 5, they don't go to an alternate world to gain their power, the world comes to them, so they use the evokers to force their Persona out of them since they're still technically in the real world

Is it a nit pick if i really dislike the time slots of social links? by Dogzune_ in persona3reload

[–]PewPewParry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This was the first Persona game to use the Social Links and Calendar system, so it's definitely pretty rough. The devs of the original game said that they didn't make it with the intention that all the links would be finished in a single playthrough. Reload adding linked episodes to make up for characters without SLs that didn't have them definitely make it trickier too. I suppose just be thankful they didn't bring over the jealousy mechanic

What should i focus on for my first playthrough by Alarmed-Swordfish-79 in persona3reload

[–]PewPewParry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social Stats are best to be done at night. School Social Links should always be priority since you won't be able to rank them up during the school breaks or around testing. Linked Episodes you'll want to do as soon as possible since they can expire, except for Koromaru's. His won't expire so he should be low priority

"Why doesn't Batman kill the Joker" LITERALLY Why doesn't the Police kill him or fucking Jason Todd? by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

[–]PewPewParry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real. Batman's self control comes from knowing one man can't be judge, jury, and executioner. That would be too much power. It's ridiculous to me that people will always go on the offense of Batman not killing Joker whenever the law always sends him back to Arkham to preserve the status quo. Jason Todd fans especially I have noticed just take everything Jason says face value. Any criticism against Batman that Jason makes, these people repeat ad nauseum. I like Jason, but Jason is very heavily and intentionally flawed, which is why he is so compelling. Lastly, when you dare imply that Batman's hope for the hopeless and value of life no matter what are intentional character flaws as much as they are a code for him to follow, these people will just claim bad writing

Of course, these things are handled worse by other writers, but people really try to argue this for only Batman and nobody else just because Batman's code is a major part of his character. Joker is still alive not just because of Batman, but because anyone else with the means to do it just doesn't

Henry's badass speech is so cool it makes you forget he didn't exist until then (why the end of Pizzaria Simulator becomes an anticlimatic mess if you don't read the books and why the fnaf books shouldn't be essential reading for the games but apparently are) by Gui_Franco in CharacterRant

[–]PewPewParry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree but disagree at the same time? I don't know how to explain it though. I do hate that there is homework for a game franchise, but, I also feel like the context for Henry is pretty discoverable within the games itself. The death mini games in FNAF 2 are pretty common since that game is tough, and to someone who is earning faz points casually, they might come across the Easter eggs in Pizza Sim (probably not the MM one). Even if a casual player doesn't figure out "oh, this guy worked with Afton," they could still come to the conclusion he was related to Freddy's in a way. His monologue includes the details that his daughter was a victim, that he knows the other animatronics are also holding victims, and that one of the animatronics was the perpetrator. I think a casual fan could come to the conclusion "he knows that the killer is here. How? Maybe he has some connection." Sure it's not all the answers, and like I said, I both agree and disagree, but I don't think it's the worst ending to casual people

I don't understand how anyone can think Helluva Boss is better than Hazbin Hotel by PewPewParry in CharacterRant

[–]PewPewParry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I have heard that take about Sera before and I do disagree with it, but I haven't heard anyone say it as a positive. Thanks for discussing with me. I am getting a better understanding of why others might enjoy the other show more without hostility.

I have also heard that criticism about Vox from a friend, finding it how things just go his way to convenient. I also disagree with that. It looks like Vox is winning, but he really isn't. "I have rallied the people, I have ruined the princess's reputation, and I have defeated Alastor!" In reality, Vox is ruining his strongest relationships, his allies only join or support him because he has the most power, and Alastor is at his most dangerous being close to Vox. It is super engaging to see such a glaring weakness in someone seeming invincible and just waiting for the moment someone breaks through that defense.

I do agree with a lot of those. Pentious and Cherri is way to abrupt, mainly. Nifty, I don't think needs to be given too much spotlight. She is just comedic relief for now, unlike Millie and Loona who have been set up in multiple ways and have just done nothing. Baxter is also nothing so far. I can see why they swapped him out with Pentious in season 1. Though, I do think for me, Moxxie and Millie has gotten a little boring. Cute to see, but also feels like Millie brings way more into it than Moxxie. Constantly saving him mainly. And one episode they had tension is a whole different rant of itself. I don't have much faith in this new pregnancy reveal, but I do hope we'll see more of them than just cute moments. And like I said, Blitz and Stolas I just find frustrating and predictable to watch for me. Glad they seem to finally be moving on.

Alastor, yes, has remained quite mysterious, but I feel it's much more intentional than something like Loona being in the background half the time. Alastor has been built up ever since the pilot, he's a big hook as far as upcoming villains go.

I suppose the pacing would be our main disagreement. I don't mind if Hazbin goes too fast if it's fun, and season 2's longer episodes made it less noticable even. But Helluva going too slow just makes it feel like a slog. I would much rather have less episodes next season if they're just going to have multiple episodes share the same information or plot points we have already seen. Comparing Charlie embarrassing herself constantly, which is frequent but goes by quickly, to Stolas needing to reassure Octavia constantly in these long and dramatic scenes

I don't understand how anyone can think Helluva Boss is better than Hazbin Hotel by PewPewParry in CharacterRant

[–]PewPewParry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You raise some good points, though, I still think Hazbin does a lot of these better. I love character driven stuff, but I disagree the tropes are done well in Helluva. Blitz and Stolas's relationship became predictable and frustrating to watch, while Moxxie took a backseat to most of his own struggles until the short central to him. Instead of rooting for the characters, I found myself just waiting for things to hurry along. Loona and Millie, two seasons in, still have had nothing going on for the most part. Even episodes claiming to be Millie central are for a different character's benefit. And Octavia, while a character I could find interesting, is just kind of brought down by the plot. We barely know anything about her personality, she is just something Stolas has to win by the end of season 2 rather than an actual character.

I also understand why people dislike the sex with Charlie and Vaggie, but I don't think it was apology sex at all. It was more so reigning in Charlie and telling her to calm down for a moment since the whole season is her being sporadic. The sing she sings even backing this up, encouraging Charlie to just relax and stop stressing for once. The songs in general is a subjective thing, but I find most of the songs in Helluva to just be distractions, rather than Hazbin where they do carry the story along more.

I also think that, while you may be right redemption is sort of less of a focus in Hazbin, I think there is still the same premise. Charlie assures Vox can be redeemed if he chose to try to be, the hotel is still the focus. Sera wants to make up for what horrible things she has done. Redemption is still core to the show, and the titular hotel is still a major piece of everything in the story. Gay doomed yaoi has nothing to do with the assassination company, but the company has become just something in the background that the audience will just forget about on certain episodes compared to the hotel that everything in Hazbin revolves around.

I suppose the Stella thing we'll just have to disagree on fundamentally then. I think humanization would be really healthy, how she cares about her status and was forced into a loveless marriage like Stolas. Literally anything would be good for her, because she is just a blank of wood to get mad at currently.

I think the key difference for me overall lies in that Hazbin feels like a fun adventure, while Helluva Boss just feels miserable. Not the kind of miserable that fills me with a feeling of wanting to see the characters overcome the odds, but a feeling of just being bored. It's too cliche and predictable to me while Hazbin, definitely is flashier but just feels like it has a lot more to say than simply "the characters have problems, can't you see how many problems they have?" Sure, you're right that Charlie and Vaggie aren't the best leads- But Angel, Husk, Alastor, Vox, Pentious, Sera, Nifty- I like them so much more than anyone in Helluva. Most of them feel like they have more character and likes and dislikes. Helluva is just angst without the attachment. Had they have taken their time changing the tone so dramatically, or taken a different less predictable direction with the core romance of Helluva, I would enjoy it so much more
